at this point in their careers, josh davis > shaun kirk

Im told Kirk is very humble and an extremely hard worker. Those types typically dont bounce unless its bad.

Kirk has too much athleticism. He is gonna be a stud junior year. Probably the second most important player on our 2017-2018 championship team. Not to be confused with our 2016-2017 championship team[Edited on March 16, 2016 at 10:02 AM. Reason : n]
3/16/2016 10:02:27 AM
(if i recall correctly, josh davis had a several inch growth-spurt towards the end of high school prior to college. I think he actually played a lot of guard/wing in high school. he just really filled-out into a PF during college)
3/16/2016 10:06:20 AM
I just hope Kirk can keep working on his shot and develop into a 3 & D wing who can also race ahead on the fast break. Don't think he'll ever have the ball skills to create on offense, but we'll get our shot creation from DSJ, Henderson, Maverick and hopefully Dorn. Not too worried about offense next year as long as they can get the ball moving. I love what Cat brought on offense but he just didn't have the greatest instincts / vision. Ultimately, we'll need to do a much better job on D and in the post next season if we want to get back to the tourney.
3/16/2016 12:32:58 PM
I think by far we looked the best this year when we made 3 to 4 passes on offense and it wasn't the Cat dribbled for 17 sec walking back and forth and then finally decide to drive or shoot. Not that I didn't enjoy watching Cat play and hopes he comes back next year but we looked better as a team as a whole when we passed the ball

Does anyone know if we are still recruiting any incoming freshmen still, or are we only looking at grad student transfers at this point?
3/18/2016 5:41:07 AM
1 player class following up a 2 player class = bright future for the Wolfpack. Especially considering we hope DSJ is only around a year or two(worse if he is around longer because that means he wasn't as good as hoped and we need him to be very good). I don't get the recruiting strategy. I get we pick up a transfer or grad player here and there, but that shouldn't be the hope every year. I appreciate Gott swings big, but then it seems like we have no backup plan when we miss. The composition of this year's roster is something I'd expect in his first year or two, but he should be in a better recruiting cycle to leave us in a situation with no true backup PG, and no depth with just 1 injury is rough. He saves scholarships for players that never show up.
3/18/2016 9:50:30 AM
There were supposed to be three additional scholarship players this year (Henderson injured in first 7 minutes of first game, Lacey and Washington leaving somewhat unexpectedly). And we have a redshirt sophomore coming in next year with DSJ that was the C-USA Rookie of the Year.
3/18/2016 10:35:46 AM
no ones going to want to sign to a team that will probably fire its coach next season.[Edited on March 18, 2016 at 10:41 AM. Reason : if gottfried gets over the hump, he'll get a new wave of recruits. we alreadhave the players though]

3/18/2016 11:09:09 AM
We're still recruiting for this year.
3/18/2016 11:17:09 AM
3/18/2016 11:20:05 AM
Two American guys that are likely projects and a Turkish guy that could be one and done. I think Gott I in Turkey right now
3/18/2016 11:48:46 AM
I'd like to have at least one project big man (one who isn't expected to contribute more than a couple of minutes his first year) and that Turkish dude would be awesome.I think Abu will jump after his junior year and obviously Anya and Freeman will be seniors. We need to have a couple bigs in the stable for after they leave. Although I have faith Gottfried can get some big names in the '17 class...we'll still need depth.
3/18/2016 11:53:49 AM
^yeah it'd definitely be nice to not have to rely on all freshmen in the frontcourt in '17
3/18/2016 3:04:29 PM
Abu has definitely said that he was here to get a degree....so I don't see why he would jump ship after his junior year.
3/18/2016 5:40:13 PM
Here's why:$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
3/18/2016 6:21:19 PM
3/18/2016 7:49:07 PM
Abu isn't paticularly old either. He will graduate at a young 22..
3/18/2016 9:08:34 PM
Abu will be a 4 year guy for sure. I think we will be okay. The 17' class will tell the tail of what NC State ball will be. That's all on of course Gott holding on to the keys to the program and not getting kicked out of the house.
3/21/2016 12:21:16 PM
It's already leaking that Abu is going to go through the NBA process this year. He's probably going to come back, but if he keeps improving like he did this year, then I don't think he'll be here for his fourth year.
3/21/2016 12:34:33 PM
Of course he will be back.He is getting his degree.the NBA process is FREE to go through and have NBA eyes tell you what you need to improve on for the next level. If you get the change to even be considered, you go. It's smart on his part.Free coaching by NBA peeps...sign me up.
3/21/2016 12:38:06 PM
players talk about wanting to get their degree all the time and they still go pro. i'd love for abu to stay 4 years, but i'm not necessarily holding my breath thinking it's definitely gonna happen.
3/21/2016 1:24:51 PM
He wouldn't be the first guy to say he was going to get his degree, then decide to go make a few million in the NBA instead, and he won't be the last... and you can still get your degree if you leave for the NBA. So he could leave early for the NBA and get his degree, it would just probably take a little longer.I'm not expecting him to be around his senior year.
3/21/2016 1:48:24 PM
Cat is gone.
3/21/2016 2:16:48 PM
gone where? for lunch? to the library?

Lots of recruiting *crickets* in this thread
3/21/2016 9:24:26 PM
Apparently we're hot after a 6'11 guy from Turkey. Outside of that I'm hoping for a good 5th year option guy. That picture will become clearer over the summer. 1-DSJ/Dorn2-Dorn/Henderson/Caleb3-Rowan/Henderson/Caleb/Cody4-Abu/Kirk5-Freeman/AnyaThat gives us 9 solid options with kirk being the 10th man even without transfers in/out. An extra big man is really all we need. If we stay the same I'd love to see us go small with Cody at the 4 and Abu at the 5. Let's face it, there are very very few teams that throw out a PF that Cody couldn't guard
3/21/2016 9:32:54 PM
Hopefully we get Yurtseven or a fifth-year guy, but I think we really need a frontcourt player who's a high school senior or traditional transfer regardless, even if it's just a depth guy. Anya & Freeman will definitely be gone in 2017-18 and Abu will likely be as well... I know that's two years off, but having Cody & Kirk as our two "experienced bigs" would be a concern for me.

You dont typically see grad transfers going to teams in the same conference
3/21/2016 11:09:00 PM
You do realize he didn't graduate from Wake, right?
3/21/2016 11:16:54 PM
Totally misread it

lmfao at rowan ever being a 4. why would cody/caleb not play the 4 in a small lineup, since they did this year already?
3/23/2016 10:23:34 AM
If rowan is a starter for us next year, we have no shot at the ncaat
3/23/2016 10:40:39 AM
Rowan could bulk up some and play the 4 at some point, just don't think it's going to be next year. He's 6'8 and has a pretty big frame. He actually reminds me of Kyle Singler in a lot of ways, who played the 4 at Duke IIRC. I keep seeing yall list Dorn as backup PG. Does he have the skills to run backup PG? I know he's athletic as hell and can score, just never heard anything about his playmaking skills. [Edited on March 23, 2016 at 11:08 AM. Reason : ]
3/23/2016 11:07:35 AM
Because if there's one thing that's great for shooters, its to bulk up to play inside.Right, Andrew Brackman?[Edited on March 23, 2016 at 11:12 AM. Reason : although anything that involves rowan dribbling less is a good thing]
3/23/2016 11:11:24 AM
Holy god, kyle singler? Really?
3/23/2016 11:38:20 AM
Rowan reminds me of a young Larry Bird
