in all seriousness...it wasn't pretty. SU isn't very good. but a win is a win. Beat wake and we go bowling. UNC ain't unwinnable.+ cred

Contract extension

-1 for a crappy offense.+2 for getting his defense to play so well they make up for the crappy offense.

I thought they said yesterday in the broadcast that doeren had this team to the highest combined GPA in the acc last year?

^According to Packpride, thats all that matters...until we lose. Contract Extension since we won.

Alright finally his first ACC win.
11/2/2014 9:03:01 AM
First ACC win, realistic shot at 2nd ACC win before the end of the season, would get us his first bowl appearance.Road ACC Win.Multiple ACC Wins.Bowl Appearance.2nd youngest team in the ACC.Would be a solid season for his credibility.
11/2/2014 9:56:05 AM
Just wait until he has a quarterback!
11/2/2014 10:10:22 AM
Someone help me out. Presbyterian is a I-AA school in the Big South Conference. We don't have to win 7 to make a bowl?
11/2/2014 10:20:45 AM
^You can count one FCS game towards bowl eligibility. ODU and Ga Southern are FBS now.

Still not credible. One ACC win is a hell of a big improvement over 0 ACC wins, but he's still 1-13 overall in conference. The team played a sloppy game and made some stupid mistakes, and still managed to win because the other team played worse. It's an important mental step but I still don't expect to make a bowl game. (It should be noted that I am a pessimist about these things.)All that being said, even if yesterday had been another L, 2 years in is *always* too early to fire a coach unless he does something personally reprehensible. It's not enough time to judge his system or his future potential. So let's reserve judgment until the end of year 3. If next year is another disaster, it's time for DY and DD to have a long chat. If next year shows real progress (my personal definition of that would be at least a .500 record and at least 3 ACC wins) then perhaps I have judged him too harshly.

NOTED. I checked the game thread and didn't see it so I put it here instead. My fault.

If we do decide to let Doeren go I think we should be going after June Jones, the famous coach to save SMU football who recently left due to the college not helping athletes enough with academics. He is also famous for his time at Hawaii and bringing that program back, but most of his coaching is either NFL or it is a smaller college division. However I think this is the type of guy we need at State if we fired Doeren. Either that or we throw some huge amounts of money at someone to get them to drop a famous football school who is currently rocky. Maybe one of these guys: Mike Riley (Oregon State), Kevin Sumlin (Texas A&M), Mark Dantonio (Michigan State), Art Briles (Baylor), Chris Petersen (Washington). However most of these guys probably would not leave without us close to doubling their salary. June Jones is who I want us to consider. http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2014/9/8/6123597/june-jones-resigns-at-smu-after-0-2-startHawaii (QB)Houston Gamblers (WR)Denver Gold (OC)Ottawa Rough Riders (OC)Houston Oilers (QB)Detroit Lions (QB/WR)Atlanta Falcons (OC)Atlanta Falcons (HC)San Diego Chargers (QB/interim HC)Hawaii (HC)SMU (HC)

Also he left because SMU was awful and he was gonna get fired.[Edited on November 3, 2014 at 1:54 PM. Reason : Oh god I just finished reading your post. LOLOLOLOLOLOL]
11/3/2014 1:53:18 PM
I'm not saying all those coaches are in "rocky programs", but they are some of the best coaches who would even consider leaving IMO.
11/3/2014 1:55:33 PM
In that list, only Mark Dantonio seems gettable
11/3/2014 1:56:43 PM
lol I am assuming you are joking, he would be the least likely by a mile in that list unless you know something I don't.
11/3/2014 1:57:56 PM
I feel pretty confident in predicting that Doeren will be our coach next season, at the least.
11/3/2014 2:07:44 PM
Yea I also think he will be there next year, it would actually hurt us in hiring a new coach if we fired him after 2 years. Now if he had gone .000 in the ACC again, then that would have been more up for debate. I just hope something big happens at a big football school causing their coach to leave (not be fired). If any of the UNC coaches (and hell no I wouldn't take them for fucking free), had any integrity, they would resign just like Jones did.
11/3/2014 2:26:16 PM
First and foremost, Doeren will be our coach next year. But LOL at this list: Mike Riley (Oregon State), Kevin Sumlin (Texas A&M), Mark Dantonio (Michigan State), Art Briles (Baylor), Chris Petersen (Washington). Sumlin, Dantonio, and Briles are all pipe dreams at best. Chris Peterson is still in rebuild mode at UW and I don't see why Riley would be worth pursing as he seems like an awful fit for NC State (West Coast guy with seemingly no ties to the East - would struggle as a recruiter).
11/3/2014 2:51:31 PM
I said repeatedly that I was interested in June Jones, that list is just people I picked off the top 14 coaches of 2014 list that aren't at "dynasty" schools.http://www.nfl.com/photoessays/0ap2000000360745[Edited on November 3, 2014 at 2:59 PM. Reason : 14]

Oh cool we are already discussing replacements....I'll play. Here are some longshots:Bob Stitt - Colorado School of Mines (Should be a DI OC), Bobby Wilder - Old Dominion, and Willie Fritz - Georgia Southern.[Edited on November 3, 2014 at 7:39 PM. Reason : Because we love 1AA coaches: Holtz and Sheridan]
11/3/2014 7:38:53 PM
jesus fucking christ
11/3/2014 8:20:44 PM
^whats the problem, guy? You know Yow already has her list of potential replacements, so it's totally reasonable for any real State fan to be thinking about the same thing. Anyone who thinks that last week's abortion of a game provides any credibility to this staff is out of their damn mind.[Edited on November 3, 2014 at 9:22 PM. Reason : 1]
11/3/2014 9:22:04 PM
i think it's kinda crazy having wish lists of replacement coaches for a coach who has been here less than 2 seasons.of course last week's win doesn't mean a whole lot in terms of determining Doeren's credibility. it is one step closer to making a bowl, which would be really nice. but y'all carry on.[Edited on November 3, 2014 at 9:28 PM. Reason : heard bill cowher wants to get back into coaching]
11/3/2014 9:26:45 PM
why rule out Les Miles, Nick Saban, Steve Spurrier, or Will Muschamp? I'm sure they'd love to come to cellar dweller 1-12 LastInACC NC State
11/3/2014 9:41:21 PM
11/3/2014 9:50:41 PM
what we talkin about here?replacements?after 1.5 years we talking about replacements.replacements.not the game coming up this week against ga tech. we talking about replacementsafter 1.5 years. replacements. not the game, not the game. replacements.
11/4/2014 8:37:19 AM
Well, considering last season and this season, I can see why. Look at how this game is going. A chance at home against an ACC opponent for bowl eligibility and we let their defense score more than our team. Our team is bad because they are coached bad.
11/8/2014 2:08:32 PM
unprepared
11/8/2014 2:17:49 PM
He just said we've gotta "flip the script"See guys? TOB would never say that, Doeren is hip to the youngsters. +1000 credibility.
11/8/2014 2:32:00 PM
what exactly makes you think we're unprepared? even on that 53 yard run ... our line backers were exactly in the right place they just got shit on by Gtech's oline ...on the first touchdown Rodman Noel gave up outside contain to dip under the lineman and got wrecked....none of that is coaching, and all of that is getting shit on by Gtech. blame where blame is due, and "preparedness" is not it currently
11/8/2014 2:34:50 PM
Agreed. Same with the 2 defensive TDs
11/8/2014 2:38:44 PM
We're not prepared because it takes years for a player to be prepared to compete with top teams. We've beat all the other teams on our schedule but lose each time we face a good teamm. Thats pretty good for year 2.
11/8/2014 2:43:03 PM
11/8/2014 2:45:10 PM
my honest, objective opinion as I am no longer much of a State fan thanks to you assholes - not at all impressed with the on-field progress. Doesnt really look any better than TOB. Could be the same damn team. But, how is the recruiting going? I havent been following it that much but the #1 thing State needs is talent, Chuck Amato raiding south Florida level talent, then we can see what he can do when it comes to coaching X's and O's and fundamentals. I honestly have no idea how they are doing recruiting wise, but he needs to be top 30 at least.[Edited on November 8, 2014 at 2:46 PM. Reason : j]
