Still not worth it in my opinion. The screen is going to be crazy awesome. I can't stand how bad the iPad 1/2 screen looks.

Going from 326 dpi on the iPhone 4 to 132 dpi on the iPad 1/2 is a very very noticeable difference in my experience. Moving to ~265 on the new iPad won't be as bad.

yes, Pennsylvania to Indiana definitely makes sense for a package heading to Charlotte.
3/15/2012 9:13:05 AM
Haha exactly what I said. By 3pm tomorrow though!
3/15/2012 9:38:53 AM
^^FedEx Express has a huge distrubtion hub in Indy.Mine is currently in Newark. hope it doesn't "fall off of a truck".
3/15/2012 9:46:06 AM
Might have one of these available tomorrow. Debating if we should keep it or take it back to Apple. Indecision, indecision...

i love it"since my eyes are crap, i don't think anyone else should need a retina display"retarded

I don't see where he tried to influence anyone else's buying decision. He said it wasn't worth it to him, so he's not buying one. What does it matter to you what tablet someone else buys?
3/15/2012 1:09:15 PM
Just after reading some of the initial reviews I can't imagine anyone buying an older iPad now. I guess if you do just never look at an iPad 3 and you won't know what you're missing.
3/15/2012 1:12:17 PM
The Fedex guy just stopped by and gave me... my new Apple TV. I guess Apple doesn't care too much about people getting those a day early.
3/15/2012 1:19:06 PM
^^ Im sure its very similar to the visual difference that I notice between my iPhone4 and my old 3rd Gen iPod Touch. You can "see" the pixels on the Touch compared to the retina display on the iPhone4.My brother has an iPad2 and I noticed the same thing, even without having seen an iPad3 display.
3/15/2012 1:39:07 PM
Pretty drastic.]
3/15/2012 1:44:38 PM
So this is the best reason to upgrade from an iPad 2 to and iPad 3?
3/15/2012 1:53:31 PM
I would say so. The screen is arguably the best part. I mean you're going from sub-HD 1024 by 768 to 2048-by-1536. I can barely look at an older iPhone now without seeing pixels everywhere. I'm also thinking how awesome remote desktop apps will be. You'll log in with no down scaling or pan and scanning.

Here's the image I tried to link to up there. Looks like it doesn't hotlink too well. http://yfrog.com/h836dqnj

Grain of salt, and all that but this looks promising for a quickish jailbreak for the new iPad.http://www.cultofmac.com/153653/ios-5-1-jailbroken-on-the-ipad-2-should-mean-early-jailbreak-for-new-ipad/
3/15/2012 4:27:38 PM
Yeah hopefully will come soon. I can't have 4 icons across 1536 pixels.

in case anyone is wanting to pick up a new ipad & missed the news, Walmart announced they're going to start selling them at midnight tonight.

"Retina" is not a technical specification. It's a bullshit Apple buzzword.
3/15/2012 11:49:57 PM
who said otherwise?
3/15/2012 11:52:23 PM
is the Wal-Mart midnight sale an act of quasi-desperation or is it just to generate buzz?
3/15/2012 11:53:42 PM
Buzzword: yesBullshit: nohttp://a.yfrog.com/img620/9229/36dqn.jpg
3/15/2012 11:54:03 PM
^^Why does it have to be either? It's a product that's up for sale that can't be sold until a certain date. At midnight, it will be that date, so it goes on sale. They do that for movies, cds, and DVDs every single week.]
3/15/2012 11:55:20 PM
I guess Wal-mart got their shipment from China first?
3/15/2012 11:59:19 PM
or last. or somewhere in the middle.

No, because "Retina Display" is a marketing term trademarked by Apple. You're pointing out that it's a marketing term, and nobody is disagreeing with you. Nobody has ever thought otherwise. Why are you making such a big deal about this?[Edited on March 16, 2012 at 12:31 AM. Reason : I can't really shave with a RAZR, A Droid won't actually take messages to Old Ben Kenobe for me. ][Edited on March 16, 2012 at 12:31 AM. Reason : All marketing is bullshit and made up, that's kind of how it works.][Edited on March 16, 2012 at 12:35 AM. Reason : Why do they call it an iSight camera anyway, it's not like the iPad can tell what it's looking at?]]
3/16/2012 12:21:20 AM
too bad this shit can't be made in America.
3/16/2012 12:27:35 AM
3/16/2012 12:35:02 AM
^^^^ meaingless: nomade up: yes, but what term do you use to describe display scaling and PPI vs resolution for consumers???Rezound has a higher res/PPI, but part of what makes a "retina display" on iOS devices a "retina display" is OS support through all levels. Android devices don't have this consistency.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAwf_53FsMgJump to 11 minutes for example. Notice that the Flash screen widgets don't draw proportionally, notice that the browser isn't scaling the browser display to the same scaling factor as the home screen elements. So based on all the factors that Apple means when they say "retina display" you can't say the Rezound has a retina display. Does the rezound's screen most likely look as good or better than an iPhone 4? In some situations, yes. But resolution alone does not a retina display make.I anticipate Android to catch up, most likely this year, but they aren't technically quite there yet.[Edited on March 16, 2012 at 12:47 AM. As I squint to take a shit with my iPad 2, will I notice a difference vs the iPad 3 display?
3/16/2012 1:08:30 AM
^^ Just to reinforce that this isn't my opinion, this are technical, objective properties of iOS platform vs. Android...It looks like Google fleshed out the scaling APIs more in Android 3.2:http://developer.android.com/guide/practices/ui_guidelines/icon_design.htmlfor reference, 3.2+ devices represent 3% of Android devices:http://developer.android.com/resources/dashboard/platform-versions.htmlAs of ~1yr ago, 40% of iOS hardware were "retina display":http://www.quora.com/Apple-Inc-2/What-is-the-breakdown-of-iPhone-users-by-hardware-iteration98% of iOS users were on 4.0 or higher (first iOS to support retina devices IIRC) ~6 mo ago:http://www.cocoanetics.com/2011/08/ios-versions-in-the-wild/^ yep The IGZO-based panel means it'll be brighter and theoretically better color saturation than current generation LCD panels:http://www.displayblog.com/2011/07/28/sharp-mobile-displays-with-igzo-uv2a/[Edited on March 16, 2012 at 1:30 AM.
