Aetna seems to be having the biggest problem adapting of the major providers. I bet that's who wdprice had.

Of previous government shutdowns, what was the cause? Has there ever been a shutdown over trying to delay something that was already a law?

It's almost like the GOP doesn't understand what losing an election means. Repealing Obamacare, cutting food stamps, gutting the EPA, cutting taxes on the rich, those are all things that Romney/Ryan ran their campaign on and lost badly. Yet somehow, they still feel entitled to demand all those things happen before anything else gets done. No wonder most Americans feel they are acting like spoiled children.
9/30/2013 11:29:46 AM
most americans disapprove of elitist obama and the job he is doing, and the republicans who care about the ordinary man are trying to get stuff done to pull us out of this economic slump (that obama doesn't even acknowledge)

exactly, a majority want some form of ACA
9/30/2013 12:25:35 PM
(right, i was including all the stats, since A was trying to use one stat to inaccurately demonstrate that just as many people don't want it as do want it. which isn't the case.

Compromise is choosing between A side's ideal versus B side's ideal. If A and B agree that X is bad, but B is threatening A with X unless they get their way, it's not compromise-- it's hostage negotiations.

I am interested in how the conservatives are bashing the ACA by saying that it is bad for Americans, but when asked to provide one single item that they don't like, they will defer to other meaningless statements without actually saying anything. Why is this their strategy? Is it that they actually don't understand the complexities (not that likely), they don't want to go on record for being against something that may come uü in elections (proabable), or they just know that the base doesn't care about the actual details (most likely)?
10/1/2013 6:09:40 AM
The irony is that ACA is funded, so health exchanges start today regardless

The only thing making them slightly tolerable to listen to this week has been the notable absence of Carmen. Not that KC and the other guy aren't chuckleheads on their own, but that woman is beyond the pale. I do love the rabid obedience to McCrony though....

I can not stand Carmen. She is beyond loony bin worthy... maybe it's the character she plays, but it's awful and they need to permanently drop her.

So now enough House Republicans have gone on record saying they would vote for a clean CR to guarantee it's passage. The only thing keeping the government shut down is Boehner's refusal to bring it to the floor for a vote. Of course, that's been the case for days but at least now it's out in the open.http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/10/01/house-republicans-clean-cr_n_4024755.html[Edited on October 2, 2013 at 4:41 PM. Well it is good to know Renee Ellmers will still get paid while 800,000 workers won't and people go without potentially life saving cancer drugs:http://www.newsobserver.com/2013/10/03/3250988/dome-ellmers-keeping-congressional.html As some North Carolina congressional lawmakers defer pay during the shutdown, GOP Rep. Renee Ellmers is refusing to do so – and her remarks are drawing the attention of an advocacy group.“The thing of it is, I need my paycheck. That is the bottom line,” Ellmers told WTVD, the Raleigh ABC station Wednesday.More than 70 congressional lawmakers are voluntarily not taking a salary during the partial government shutdown. Democrat David Price of Chapel Hill and Republican Robert Pittenger of Charlotte are among those donating it to the U.S. Treasury. Republicans George Holding of Raleigh, Virginia Foxx of Banner Elk and Mark Meadows of Cashiers are not accepting their pay.Ellmers makes $175,000 a year (not including special interest money).
