dont forget, we spend too much money on games too... ended up getting a few more games today. heh stupid sales.

Just upgraded to a second GTX 580. Just the sheer ballerness of my PC is earth shattering
8/9/2011 9:54:40 AM
eh that's only 2. It won't achieve baller status until quad sli (or at least tri-sli).
8/9/2011 10:06:05 AM
yeah i know, I have my z68-UD7 board ordered and should be here this week so ill be going to tri sli within a couple weeks
8/9/2011 10:21:40 AM
I thought about upgrading but my dual 460's can handle anything I've thrown at them at 1920 by 1200. Once I upgrade the resolution I'll probably upgrade the video cards. Although getting a full time job has totally put a damper on gaming.^why don't you wait until the real enthusiast chips (ivy bridge) come out in Q4/Q1 2012? Seems a waste to be buying any Sandy Bridge parts right now when Ivy Bridge is right around the corner. Sandy Bridge was never even considered enthusiast as the chipset was a downgrade from the previous generation in terms of ram and PCI-E bandwidth. [Edited on August 9, 2011 at 10:36 AM. Reason : s]
8/9/2011 10:34:06 AM
^yeah. I will be upgrading when they come out. no need to wait though.
8/9/2011 7:17:39 PM
Other than it's a waste of money?
8/10/2011 9:34:29 AM
It's not a waste of money if you're going to use it. I mean why would you wait 4-6 months, it's a waste of time! j/k
8/10/2011 10:39:26 AM
I'm saying buying z68 now then a newer chipset in 6 months or so is a waste of money. I could think of much better things to waste money on.
8/10/2011 10:54:12 AM
well if you keep playing the "lets wait and see" game, you will never upgrade... lol
8/10/2011 6:05:32 PM
I never wait and see. I build and sell. build and sell
8/11/2011 10:11:15 PM
I just build. never sell. That would explain why my computer room has turned into a server farm.
8/11/2011 10:44:41 PM
I swap/sell parts, I've only built like once in the last 5-years. Well I guess I did disassemble/reassemble when I swapped the PSU/Motherboard/CPU at the same time.
8/11/2011 10:57:03 PM
I sell my rig almost every 6-8 months.
8/12/2011 9:39:50 AM
You must have lots of time on your hands.
8/12/2011 9:49:44 AM
No actually I dont. But its worth it to sell something for about 100% profit to some noob
8/12/2011 10:13:40 AM
Been thinking about upgrading to a 30" to fit inbetween my 2 24" Ultrasharps. Anyone have one of these:http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=224-9949&~ck=baynoteSearch&baynote_bnrank=3&baynote_irrank=0Think 24" - 30" - 24" would be sweet.[Edited on August 12, 2011 at 1:01 PM. ^I have an older version and I love it. The only thing I would do is make sure your desk is either long enough to sit it far enough back or else have a slide-out keyboard tray. I don't with this desk, and I'm only about 30" away Also, keep in mind you'll have to upgrade video cards more often if you want to always play the latest games. 2560x1600 is hellish on GPUs.
8/12/2011 5:23:13 PM
Yeah I'm not looking forward to the downgrade in performance I get from stepping up from 1920 by 1200 to 2560 by 1600.
8/12/2011 5:32:06 PM
Dell monitors have always been amazing. Just wish apple took a page book from them on monitor design and utility.
8/12/2011 8:26:18 PM
Have an i5 2500K, 4GB Corsair RAM, a Gigabyte HD 6870 and ASRock mobo all waiting for me to get home tonight.
8/19/2011 2:36:45 PM
6870=Why? more importantly why gigabyte?
8/19/2011 7:14:32 PM
What's funny is despite having 2 overclocked 460's in SLI I mainly play Minecraft. Haha.
8/19/2011 7:19:42 PM
^^Available locally at the pricepoint I wanted. Didn't want to wait for shipping. Why Gigabyte is related to this answer as well. Why not Gigabyte however? This version has a good reputation for it's cooler (unless you Crossfire them apparently).
8/19/2011 8:32:16 PM
I'm an Evga fan. Can't beat a life time warranty on a factory overclocked video card. Not to mention their trade in program (can upgrade any Evga part within 90 days and only pay the difference).
8/19/2011 8:37:39 PM
^Exactly. I run Evga because they are stock cards for my water blocks. Also have run Stock Asus cards.
8/19/2011 9:50:34 PM
I'm an Evga fan too. I just wished they made AMD cards. I felt bad going with xfx since the last 3 main gpu's was evga's.Anyhow, building a cheap gaming box for a friend.- Cooler Master HAF 912 Black Case- Cooler Master eXtreme Power Plus 500W- Asus M4A87TD/USB3 AM3 SATA 6Gb/s Motherboard- AMD Phenom II X6 1090T processor- 2x Corsair XMS 4GB DDR3 1333$368.94 before 60 in MIR.Add $110 for oem win7 pro and spare amd gpu and hard drives, pretty damn cheap build. Actually, my video card changed: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127589
8/26/2011 3:03:51 PM
While the 580 is nice it's not quite powerful enough to max out some of the newer games at 1920 by 1200 or above. You'd be better off investing in 2 560's or 570's (or go ahead and spend the money and get 2 580's). I have 2 overclocked 460's which far surpass a single 580 and I still struggle to max out Crysis 2, Metro 2033, and a couple others at 1920 by 1200. Again I'm being picky though. A single 580 will do fine for most games.
8/26/2011 3:36:06 PM
The card I'm getting comes in third in most benchmarks, losing only to the best cards. I'm going to buy a second Twin Frozr III GTX580 OC Extreme for SLI in a few months. That will be faster than the fastest cards on the market GTX590 or HD6990, and my Mobo supports 3 in SLI, so I can get... yes, another Twin Frozr III GTX580 OC Extreme with Tri-SLI, (e.g. 3x Twin Frozr III GTX580 OC Extremes in SLI).Since my monitor is an 38" LCD HDTV @ 120 Hertz, my resolution will remain at 1920 x 1080 anyway. If you are interested, here is a good comparison in Metro 2033:http://www.guru3d.com/article/msi-geforce-gtx-580-lightning-xtreme-edition-review/16This rig is meant to be somewhat future-proof. So it will slay most if not all games for years to come, assuming I go SLI when needed. I think my card does around 40 FPS in Metro 2033 (after overclocking), which is nice already, but it will be murderous in SLI.[Edited on August 26, 2011 at 8:31 PM. Reason : -]
8/26/2011 8:14:37 PM
Ah just playing at 1080p gotcha. Hurry up and get that second one! It's not really cost effective to have only a single 580 when you can get 2 570's for the same price and for all intensive purposes be much better performance/$. My 2 460's pretty much vsync at 60FPS most of the time in Metro 2033 and they can be had for ~$300-350 now (for both!). Just realize $600 is a bunch to spend on a card that gets beaten by a couple of much cheaper ones. To your point though if you want future proof go ahead and get the second 580. Also why aren't you waiting until Q4 2011/Q1 2012 for Ivy Bridge to come out? They're the real enthusiast chips. If you have the money don't get Sandybridge right before they go out when Ivy Bridge is months away. 10-15 MB L3 Cache, up to quad channel DDR3. The i7 Extreme 3820 is probably going to start at ~$300 (10MB cache) while the 3930k (unlocked multiplier - 12MB cache) will be $500-600. Just think in months people will start buying those and you'll be left behind wishing you waited another quarter. [Edited on August 27, 2011 at 9:17 AM. Reason : s]

I see your point in regards to waiting, but I'm really not willing to wait until Q1 2012, mainly because I want to be kicking ass with FPS as of September 5th. Not to mention the onslaught of great games coming out now and in Sept, Oct, and November: (Deus Ex, Dead Island, Rage, BF3, Skyrim, Doom 4, Diablo 3?).Luckily, I'll be getting my second 580 Twin Frozr III Extreme in a month or two for SLI (considerably faster than stock 580). I'm also planning on buying a 27" 120 Hertz Input Monitor (Wall-Mounted), so my frames will actually refresh at 120 Hertz: http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/PID-MX33610%28ME%29.aspxWith all of the overclocking potential of the entire system, I'm not really worried about Ivy Bridge, although if it was available now I'd probably buy that instead. If my rig remains relevant and high-end for gaming for at least 2 years, and it will, I'm satisfied.[Edited on August 27, 2011 at 4:09 PM. Reason : -]

8/29/2011 11:22:18 AM
^^Always hardwire. Wireless sucks. Although if you're not doing lots of data transfer than it's fine.
8/29/2011 11:32:02 AM
I don't want to have to run a cord from my living room to my bedroom, and besides I don't really do a lot of data transfer like that. I will use it to play BF3 online, download games from Steam, but that about as intense as I get with data transfer, I don't pirate and shit so I should be fine with wireless I would think, right?
8/29/2011 11:42:40 AM
Yeah you'll be fine.
8/29/2011 12:01:28 PM
So why the six core processor?
