lol i just realized i've talked on mine less than 5 minutes so far [Edited on August 11, 2008 at 8:47 AM. Reason : make that less than 2 minutes, haha]

did you get a new 3g one ?
8/11/2008 9:58:21 AM
yeah
8/11/2008 10:20:29 AM
My iPhone 3G has really poor uneven and "muddy" backlighting in low light situations. On top of that, the LCD leaks through the area where the bezel meets the screen.I think I'm going to swap it, but I don't know how I'd be able to show this at the Genius Bar. It's so bright in the Apple stores.

Got my 3G this morning ... Cant say enough about it... this interface rocksBy The Way ... We talked a little about the golf application that we were launching ... well ... It went live this morning on the App Store!!! Look up vCaddy (in the sports section) and buy it if you want golf GPS on your iPhone. /shameless plug

Looks pretty good
8/12/2008 8:19:48 AM
i phone or wait for xperia.... i like the idea of having keys too... iphone v3 should be a slider with keyboard.
8/12/2008 8:39:41 AM
^me too. I think i'm waiting. The keys, brushed metal finish, 3.2MP sony camera, and 800 by 480 resolution appeal to me. I'll wait till the xperia comes out, try to get a hold of one, then decide.
8/12/2008 9:56:12 AM
man...went to AT&T...my blackberry is fucked up, I'm eligible for an upgrade oct 15....yet they are sticking strong to that date! Can't talk anyone into giving me one now.

8/12/2008 11:08:57 AM
^haha downgrade? you mean upgrade? That's what most people complain about on the iphone. A keyboard isn't a downgrade. I want to be able to have the FULL screen to view AND be typing on a keyboard. Typing on the display is old school. It wastes display space. Plus most people agree typing on a nice qwerty keyboard is better and more efficient.
8/12/2008 11:12:53 AM
it isn't more efficient and it sure as fuck isn't "old school". argue all you want, until you use one for a few days you won't understand
8/12/2008 11:18:45 AM
8/12/2008 11:19:20 AM
I've used an iphone plenty of time and i still find a solid, nice qwerty keyboard more efficient and faster. I'm pretty sure there was never an argument here. A physical qwerty keyboard has always been better than a touch screen one.-i mean no matter how you say it. Hardware wise, a 800 by 480 display with a qwerty keyboard is still an "upgrade" from a 480 by 320 display w/o a qwerty keyboard. [Edited on August 12, 2008 at 11:45 AM. Reason : .]
8/12/2008 11:37:36 AM
i'm faster on the touchscreen..i can move my fingers a lot faster when i dont have to actually push anything down. of course my spelling errors increase a little bit the spell check on the iphone is great so that's really not an issue
8/12/2008 11:54:11 AM
I would prefer an actual keyboard to a touchscreen one, but thinking that there's going to be a "upgrade" to include one is silly.Honestly what they need more than anything are more third-party applications that take advantage of turning the iPhone/iPod Touch sideways.
8/12/2008 11:58:16 AM
^^i have no doubt that you're faster, i'm just saying most people i've seen on an iphone aren't as fast as on a qwerty keyboard. It's just a small sample though. Basically i'm saying if i had a choice i'd rather have a big slide-out qwerty keyboard (like the xperia) AND a touch keyboard on a high res (640x480/800x480) display, rather than no keyboard and a touch keyboard on a low-res 480 by 320 display.-Plus on a physical keyboard once you get used to it you can type without looking at the display. Which is a plus. I'm not sure how well you can do this on a touch-keyboard.[Edited on August 12, 2008 at 12:10 PM. Reason : .]

I can type about 30 words a minute on the iphone. Not even half my normal typing speed, but its pretty damned good for a phone. I can actually be verbose in an email response and not get upset. The secret lies with the auto correct feature, that works really well. Otherwise it would blow.
8/12/2008 1:20:27 PM
Yea, the auto-correct is surprisingly good. Plus it learns frequently typed acronyms and words. I'm impressed.

I'm getting one of these for my phone/laptop/desktop whatever is bluetooth:http://www.frogpad.com/information/bluefroginfo.aspCan get to 40wpm in 10 hours compared to the 56 hours it takes with QWERTY.[Edited on August 12, 2008 at 1:38 PM. Reason : .]

they need a better website
8/12/2008 1:40:30 PM
eh, i'm about the product. It's supposed to be solid and heavy which sounds nice. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSDMahnw0_g
8/12/2008 1:50:01 PM
I love the idea.. their website should show some videos though or maybe even some decent pictures. I dunno, just doesn't really show you the product. I had to go to youtube to find that video ^ to even see it in actionThere's probably a section I'm missing on the site and I'll just come off looking ignorant though haha
8/12/2008 1:54:59 PM
I think you're right. There's not any videos. From what i can find most people can't get above 40-50wpm. I can type well over 100wpm on a qwerty so maybe i could get 50-60 on a frogpad. Who knows. I did read that iphones won't pair with it because Apple doesn't provide HID drivers for Bluetooth keyboards. So there's no iphone support out of the box.
8/12/2008 2:22:12 PM
I see. Ah well, the idea was coolI'd like to know what joe#'s can type with one hand...compared to ppl on that thing

The more I read this thread the more I realize that neodata686 isn't going to be happy until his cellphone is a 24" monitor with a fullsized foldout keyboard with an integrated D-SLR camera, so there's really no point in discussing this with him.
8/12/2008 6:08:30 PM
^haha. i like complaining. I like the iphone don't get me wrong, and it's interface blows everything else out of the water, but i have played with a few VGA pdas, and various other 480 by 320 devices and i can certainly tell a difference in resolution. Not to mention the browsing advantages 800 by 480 would have over 480 by 320. I know development will be a pain and changing the standard complicates everything, but i still like the higher resolution display.
8/12/2008 6:14:50 PM
on touchscreens other than the iphone i 100% agree with you that the keyboards suck--but the spell correct or whatever term they've dubbed it is simply amazing and the sole reason I can and do type faster on it. think about the mechanics behind pushing every button down vs just making contact with the screen.. the second takes less effort which equals potentially being faster. the only downside is of course not being able to feel the keys--but because of the spell correct it doesn't matter if you even hit the right places..only that you were close and that you (usually) hit the right number of letters. i've typed words many times that had no resemblance to the right word and that no regular spell check would have figured out but this thing does it and does it consistently well. i've had two blackberries, two palm treos, two iphones, a few sony ericssons, etc.. I'm not just making shit up to be an apple fan boy--personally this was the first apple device I ever bought. i really do think that this display is superior.. i don't care about the specs.. the damn thing just works.

one thing that I do like about the iphone is that I can't text while driving..ive seen several people try and text while driving and its near to impossible.

Any trick to getting the iPhone to connect to Roadrunner's SMTP server? Can't get it to work over my local WiFi or 3g. Seems to be a lot of discussion about it on iPhone forums but no definitive answer. Works great with my work's exchange server though.nm, i just needed to leave both username and password empty in the smtp server settings.[Edited on August 13, 2008 at 7:19 AM. Reason : :]
