^have you tried firechat? It's interface needs work, but it's capable of sending messages on practically any antenna your device has, and will use other devices as relays. Used it at a couple NCSU football games back before 4G.

Do other people have to have the app too?
9/11/2018 10:49:17 PM
Yes. It forms a self contained mesh network that fails over to cell/wifi if found. But the self contained is it's strength and weakness. Dozen users in the student section and everyone can talk without backhaul. Across town without backhaul... Isn't likely. Basically you need nodes within range of 50-100 yards. Likely to work in an apartment complex or townhouses, not a neighborhood.[Edited on September 11, 2018 at 10:56 PM. Reason : Full disclosure:I haven't used it in probably 2 years. Cool kids use signal now, which requires back]

What are some good websites for the every day guy to look at and know WTF its talking about?or twitter accounts to keep me updated, fairly frequently[Edited on September 11, 2018 at 10:57 PM. Reason : f]

Hurricanes.gov is the NHC site. It's pretty straight forward.A lot of people really like spaghettimodels.com too. You kinda start figuring out everything that's going in. His facebook is Mike's Weather Page. Hes pretty cool and will do live updates occasionally.I dont know if that helps or not!

Firechat coesnt work on latest iOS and is kinda sketchyFound this app though search for Bridgefy

Never doubt the weather dome
9/12/2018 12:11:50 AM
It will be historical rainfall totals i feel
9/12/2018 12:23:49 AM
I wish it was like 2 weeks later so I could get my seed and fertilizer out before all that rain.
9/12/2018 12:51:43 AM
My parents just had new mulch and pine needles put down like a week ago. That shit's gonna be gone
9/12/2018 12:55:58 AM
Riding it out in the New Bern area. I'm expecting a similar experience that we saw in Bertha or Fran (in MY area, in terms of destruction and rainfall), not so much the Hazel that was suggested. I just don't see this being historical in any category. We shall see.[Edited on September 12, 2018 at 1:17 AM. Reason : .]

I believe the point of eye landfall wherever it is in NC will be historic...Those winds and prolonged rain/flooding hasnt been seen in awhile. The storm surge alone will be bad.Arent the NNE sides of these things supposed to be the worst to be in?
9/12/2018 1:39:55 AM
yes, the "right side" of the storms have the highest winds
9/12/2018 1:51:39 AM
So the cone is again updated a little more to the west than last time. I was looking over some of the previous bad storms that hit the state, like Hugo and Fran, and both of them hit the coast in nearly a vertical south-->north track. Seems like the storms that come northwards up the coast have a history of fucking our shit up more than storms that come in from a more lateral. Hopefully that holds true with Florence.
9/12/2018 2:27:03 AM
So for the triangle, things are looking great now?
9/12/2018 6:29:01 AM
If it follows this latest path we should just get a bunch of rain for a few days
9/12/2018 6:36:11 AM
what is a bunch of rain?
9/12/2018 7:17:02 AM
i've seen some still saying 7"+ of rain...so yeah...a bunch of rain. and i'd imagine a good chance for power outages still. but yes, looking better for us than it was 24 hours ago.
9/12/2018 8:09:11 AM
Raleigh dome has engaged.Watch it turn out to be sunny and a light breeze.
9/12/2018 8:24:47 AM
^^i'd imagine if anything it would be more localized power outages like you get with bad thunderstorms than widespread loss*, but who knows and we're still within the cone so we could still get a direct hit(*assuming it follows that path)[Edited on September 12, 2018 at 8:27 AM. Reason : *]
9/12/2018 8:27:08 AM
wind? is this more like Matthew now?
9/12/2018 8:45:14 AM
every case of water purchased increases the dome's strength +1

As soon as NCSU canceled the football game, Florence changed course.#NCSTATESHIT "When's the last time Wilmington was hit by a hurricane? Like 100 years ago?"[Edited on September 12, 2018 at 9:18 AM. Reason : ]

9/12/2018 9:18:31 AM
Im feeling better about staying now
9/12/2018 9:21:01 AM
Morehead is still going to get rocked.
9/12/2018 9:25:53 AM
Fran and Floyd both did some pretty good damage to Wilmington in the mid/late 90s(they eye doesn't have to go directly over an area for it to get rocked)
9/12/2018 9:26:30 AM
I think I was seeing on Facebook that they cancelled the evacuations in SC a couple days ago and now it shifted? anyone else here this?

9/12/2018 10:33:32 AM
What seems to be causing the models to dip south? Is there a front or something steering it that way?
9/12/2018 10:45:18 AM
NWS_Raleigh says to still be prepared for strong winds in Raleigh, and there is a chance of tornadoes particularly towards the sandhills
9/12/2018 10:47:36 AM
35-45 mph winds will still fuck some shit up here.
9/12/2018 10:50:22 AM
it's annoying that winds will start at night, i'd much rather it get bad during the day to keep an eye on things^yeah and we haven't had a bad storm or ice storm in a long time to thin trees[Edited on September 12, 2018 at 11:00 AM. Reason : .]

made a good call to not leave. People have been gone since Sunday and it's been sunny, calm, and beautiful. There's only one grocery store open on the Outer Banks, Publix. This past winter/spring saw worse weather than we're forecasted to get. I fear this will backfire on everyone next time in a boy who cried wolf fashion.
9/12/2018 12:15:02 PM
this is nothing like the boy who cried wolf
9/12/2018 12:18:01 PM
9/12/2018 12:24:32 PM
related observance: the new non-chronological and the not-new non-chronological facebook are really bad at sharing fast changing weather information even though its probably a primary source of news for a lot of people. if you're not paying attention you could be looking at a forecast that's a couple days old that was put in between two new posts.

Yes, people really believe, and pass around, the dumb thing about dishwashers being watertight and sealing in your important documents in a flood.
9/12/2018 1:10:36 PM
yeah that's just stupidbut we can still keep our children safe in a dishwasher tho, right?
9/12/2018 1:11:50 PM
That last Euro is crazy. Hangs out on Wrightsville Beach for while, then backs out to sea, goes down the SC coast, then comes back in below Savannah. Don't know if that's better or worse for Charleston. Still think I'm gonna ride this bitch out.
