Playoffs are stupid, just give us Clemson-Alabama again.
12/29/2018 8:30:41 PM
I foolishly thought OU and Murray could at least make Bama sweat with their offense. But nope.
12/29/2018 8:35:53 PM
^sameThis isn't a good showing for all of us who want an 8 team playoff
12/29/2018 8:52:29 PM
At least ND kept it interesting till late in the 2Q
12/29/2018 8:58:34 PM
We really need an 8 team playoff, because we need at least two more blowouts.
12/29/2018 8:59:26 PM
Put UCF in
12/29/2018 9:09:05 PM
Better them than Georgia.
12/29/2018 9:14:50 PM
12/29/2018 9:25:31 PM
^^ oh I agree
12/29/2018 9:32:14 PM
This was *the* year for an 8 team playoff, Georgia, Ohio State and UCF all had legitimate claims for the playoff. Seeing Clemson and Alabama smoke the competition makes everything seem pointless. Reminiscent of the Warriors/Cavs matchups every year in the NBA before Lebron left Cleveland
12/29/2018 9:34:44 PM
Georgia and OSU didn't have legitimate claims. Georgia lost TWO games (blown out in one) and OSU got the shit kicked out of them by a team that finished under .500.
12/29/2018 9:47:02 PM
Ehhh. I disagree that this was he year for 8. 2 loss teams kinda eliminate themselves. UGa, while they gave Bama the best game of the year also shit bed vs a not great LSU team. OSU lost by 4 TDs to Purdue. I’m not saying OSU or UGa wouldn’t threaten Clemson or Bama. But they kinda shit the bed this year when they had their chances. I guess you can always say that multiple teams had a claim to that 4th spot. But the 5-8 teams (and 3-8 this year) rarely if ever have a legit claim as best team and that’s why I don’t think there’s a need to expand. I think it eventually will expand, I don’t even oppose it. I just don’t know that it’s *necessary*
12/29/2018 9:54:49 PM
Yes, I meant they had a claim at the 4 spot. Ohio State and Georgia both had bad games but proved without a doubt at the end of the season when it mattered that they were among the elite. Throwing out your big ten bias, there's no way you could've watched Notre Dame play today and think the Bulldogs, Buckeyes or UCF's couldn't put up more of a fight
12/29/2018 10:16:21 PM
No I think those teams could’ve put up more of a fight. Although I think Clemson would’ve put up 50 on Ohio State, OSU could’ve at least scored. I guess my point is simply, just because they could put up a fight doesn’t mean they should be in over ND given the resumes. More than anything Clemson and Bama are just in a league of their own. A playoff between just teams 3-8 would be more entertaining than prolonging the inevitable Bama - Clemson game.
12/29/2018 10:19:40 PM
Notre Dame needs to get their asses out of the stone age and join a damn conference already. Shame that a team that didn't even play on conference championship Saturday gets in. Beating Southern Cal and Navy doesn't mean shit in 2018.They would be a 7 or 8 win team if they played in the SEC and Georgia would've whooped them too.[Edited on December 29, 2018 at 11:17 PM. Reason : hey guys, we were really good in the 60s, 70s and 80s!]

12/29/2018 11:54:46 PM
12/30/2018 12:29:46 AM
I don't recall either of those teams getting blasted by a sub .500 team.
12/30/2018 1:18:16 AM
or winning their conference championship
12/30/2018 1:37:20 AM
So you think winning a P5 conference title should be the only criteria for getting in?
12/30/2018 7:30:44 AM
I think the takeaway isn’t “expand the playoffs” or “ND didn’t deserve it”...imo it’s simply that there weren’t 4 playoff worthy teams this year. And imo this is arguably the 3rd year that’s happened (2016 and 2015). When a team gets blown out in the playoffs, it doesn’t necessarily mean that particular team was overrated or didn’t deserve it. It might just mean that there’s usually only 2-3 truly great teams and then there’s noticeable dropoff.
12/30/2018 10:02:53 AM
Mark Richt retiring
12/30/2018 12:49:52 PM
^That was quick
12/30/2018 1:07:09 PM
Ugh the coastal continues to be a dumpster fire. Even if you make the argument against realignment that divisions are cyclical, it's just disheartening to be stuck in the one side where you have to be perfect to even have a chance at winning it.
12/30/2018 1:52:40 PM
I don’t think you can even argue that it’s cyclical. The coastal has never had a national title contender. The Atlantic has had a national title contender several times.
12/30/2018 2:25:20 PM
Former NC State DB coach Manny Diaz is Miami's new head coach.
12/30/2018 11:15:34 PM
thought he coached linebackers while he was here
12/30/2018 11:19:53 PM
The biggest opposition to an 8-team playoff are logistics and costs. Let's say the semi finals are in Dallas and Miami like they are now and the championship is also in a different city. Are fans of team 1 and 2 going to buy tickets to 3 games if their team keeps winning? There are travel costs to be paid too. What about travel and practice costs for teams? I don't doubt that about every P5 team has the budget, but Title IX supporters will start bitching.
12/30/2018 11:48:24 PM
the stadiums could be empty and the TV contracts would make it financially viable
12/31/2018 12:31:12 AM
Yep, until ESPN goes broke. ]
12/31/2018 12:44:30 AM
When does that happen exactly?
12/31/2018 1:38:24 AM
By my calculations, 2028.
12/31/2018 1:39:27 AM
Did you start a "The end of ESPN" thread like that Tesla one in the garage?
12/31/2018 11:16:26 AM
I think ESPN is more like Bitcoin.
12/31/2018 11:46:59 AM
Duke QB Daniel Jones is going pro. Probable first round pick, possible first QB off the board.I bet there's gonna be some salty people here/on the internet when he gets taken way ahead of Finley.
12/31/2018 3:34:52 PM
Miami paid Temple $4 million to take away Manny Diaz, who had not coached a game yet. That means that Temple got nearly $4 million for free when you substract fees for their search firm and lawyers that went over the contract.
12/31/2018 5:18:08 PM
I am enjoying Georgia getting the shit beat out of them. They sure are showing how we need an 8 team playoff.
1/1/2019 11:31:43 PM
Ah yes, Georgia is no good because they didn't bring their CFP energy to a meaningless bowl gameI also enjoy them losing, but it's a silly perspective that you have[Edited on January 1, 2019 at 11:44 PM. Reason : and they'll probably still win]
1/1/2019 11:39:51 PM
I also hate Tom Herman so I am conflicted.
1/2/2019 12:40:05 AM
i mean, UGa losing to Texas in a game where their motivation could be questioned isn't reason alone to say they shouldn't have been in the CFP. but also, they shouldn't have been in the CFP
1/2/2019 6:28:11 AM
Holgorsen going to Houston. We play @WV next year. Could be winnable with a new QB, new coach, and losing other offensive firepower.
1/2/2019 9:31:34 AM
Clemson VS Alabama IV is not on ABC anymore.
1/2/2019 10:28:14 AM
Great to see Urban go out on top. God willing they'll find a cure for the crippling disease that has stripped us of one of ESPNAmerica's great molders of men.
1/2/2019 11:41:51 AM
1/2/2019 12:41:56 PM
And it won't end until midnight again.
1/2/2019 1:52:29 PM
^yeah the nfl has it figured out in terms of making most games last 3.5 hours tops. College games consistently seeem to go 4+ hours
1/2/2019 2:04:47 PM
Clemson scored at the last second two years ago after midnight.
