rofl, Apparently Adidas paid high school kids to sign at Adidas schools and then sign them later on if they went pro.
9/26/2017 11:17:15 AM
I hope we are not involved in this. Listening to the radio some of the schools are still not named. Apparently there is a noon briefing.
9/26/2017 11:41:04 AM
I doubt the FBI probe goes this far back, but it would be the icing on the cake if Roy Williams ended up snagged in this from his Kansas days.
9/26/2017 11:45:49 AM
Roy is untouchable. Nike will make sure of that.
9/26/2017 11:46:55 AM
Sounds like this is 4 coaches that have been specifically named. Why are people thinking there are more?
9/26/2017 11:59:20 AM
because its still mysterious how a coach who wasted so much talent continuously out-recruited almost everyone
9/26/2017 12:25:05 PM
if louisville gets away with this and running a prostitution ring why would anyone not cheat?
9/26/2017 12:38:56 PM
^^^probably because the fbi can continue to dig and investigate and name more coaches, right?
9/26/2017 12:41:16 PM
What can Nike do to protect UNC from the FBI?
9/26/2017 12:54:08 PM
http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/20824193/ncaa-basketball-coaches-10-charged-fraud-corruptionThe article makes mention that the FBI complaint documents a player being paid $100,00 to go to a public research institution in the state of Kentucky with a student enrollment of 22,640. While no one from Louisville may have been arrested yet, they're going to be at the center of everything. Can anyone find a link to the actual FBI complaint? From the snippets online, it appears that at least 6 universities are identified. Based on arrests, we know that USC, Arizona, Auburn and Oklahoma State are involved, and we know based on the above statement that Louisville is involved. Seeing as how Adidas only has contracts with 14 schools, there's a possibility that NC State may end up snagged in this too. We've managed to sign a few big names in the one-and-done era with Warren, Hickson, and Brown.

Miami gets referenced in the Gatto Complaint as offering $150,000 to obtain a player over a "rival".
9/26/2017 2:05:41 PM
Where does it list Miami? I'm just seeing stuff like "Player-12" and "University-7"
9/26/2017 2:09:31 PM
9/26/2017 2:10:57 PM
^^university 7 is a private university in Florida with ~19,000 enrolled and 15 varsity sports teams. That matches Miami.[Edited on September 26, 2017 at 3:00 PM. Reason : university 2 is South Carolina, 3 is Oklahoma State, 4 is Arizona, 5 is USC]

It would hilarious if State got the death penalty for something like this while UNC skates. Well, hilarious probably isn't the right word, but you know what I mean.

USC is shocking as well. Totally blindsided.
9/26/2017 8:34:04 PM
But seriously, the balls on the UL staff. On probation for literally buying players hookers and then a month later doing this. Dedication..
9/26/2017 8:35:40 PM

No the really "hilarious" NC State shit thing will be... UL fires AD. UL fires entire coaching staff. UL hires new AD. UL AD calls up Kevin Keatts... THAT, would be some NC State shit. Not directly involved with the BS, but caught up in the fallout.

9/27/2017 9:42:07 AM
Yeah, the FBI gives no shits about college sports. They want evidence and convictions.
9/27/2017 10:01:41 AM
the FBI doesn't even like working with local law enforcement, right? why would they bring a non-law enforcement entity into their federal investigation?
9/27/2017 10:03:19 AM
How does Louisville keep getting busted but nothing on Kentucky? Everyone knows they have the dirtiest coach. A big time commit, 5* EJ Montgomery, has already decommitted from Auburn. Maybe Keatts can grab one that leaves a program.
9/27/2017 10:11:44 AM
^ul is just bad at cheating apparently. everybody knows Calipari is shady as hell, but he must be pretty good at it. loads of teams cheat and just don't get caught
9/27/2017 10:23:32 AM
I think Cal was dirty early on but I think at this point his reputation with the one and done crowd and getting them successfully drafted in the NBA is carrying him where he doesn't really need to cheat. The guys are coming there to get drafted and he has the best track record on that. For all the talent they havent exactly won a whole lot though but I don't think Cal even cares a lot about that anymore. The other schools are having to play dirty now though to keep up with the guy.
9/27/2017 10:43:10 AM
I'm not sure I'm clear on the situation so any clarification will help. From what I understand, this is about assistant coaches accepted bribes and money from 3rd parties to encourage players to sign with certain shoe companies, financial advisors agents. Not necessarily for them to come to a certain school.
9/27/2017 10:54:33 AM
^I think there are 2 prongs to the investigation. Assistant Coaches took money to steer players on their teams to particular companies and agents. IE. The 4 coaches implicated put money in their pockets. Shoe companies worked with Assistant Coaches, notably at schools affiliated with their brand, to pay families of recruits directly in order to land a commitment to that University and with considerations that they would sign with them once they get to the NBA. IE. UL is in trouble because they have evidence an Assistant Coach(not implicated with the first 4) knew that Brian Bowen got paid $100,000 for his commitment to UL from Adidas. There's a reason why programs like Alabama football, Kentucky basketball and UNC basketball never get caught and it's not because they aren't cheating. They've just been doing it for a long, long time and are very good at it.They aren't going to involve shoe companies and agents and a shit ton of other people in their payments. It's rich boosters who are willing to foot the bill and not leave a paper trail.
9/27/2017 11:00:46 AM
^^So that's not really the same as a booster/coach paying a player to come to their school. Correct? Is that illegal as well?
9/27/2017 11:02:41 AM
^^There is just different levels of "cheating" when the FBI gets involved. I think teams like UK and Bama were more likely getting benefits from boosters. I think it's less likely Nike was cutting families or assistant coaches checks. I also think those programs cheated up to a point where they were a premiere team in their sport and now they don't have to cheat to stay there. Most 5* basketball players know UK puts guys in the leagues and does well with 1-and-done players. Why would UK need to pay players to go there still? Same with Alabama, those kids know just playing on Alabama is going to get you drafted. Bama is putting a ton of dudes in the NFL, but not that many of them are really turning into big-time players.^It's "cheating" per NCAA rules, but it's not "illegal". The FBI got involved because this involves bribes and fraud. Schools are being defrauded here because the schools are asking for federal money to pay for some of these kids because of economic status and what-not, so when it turns out these kids really are sitting on $100,000 and UL reports a family income of $40,000...it becomes a problem. UL is defrauding the federal government out of funds "unknowingly". [Edited on September 27, 2017 at 11:05 AM. Reason : .]

I just know Gott is somehow involved in this. Wouldn't surprise me in the least.
9/27/2017 11:04:10 AM
^^Last question, does it matter if it's a private school or public school in these cases?[Edited on September 27, 2017 at 11:06 AM. Reason : ^has to get his money back from his ponzi scheme some how]
