So, uh, not to be that guy, but wearing the US flag as any form of clothing like this person or Kid Rock wearing one as a shirt, is against the Flag Code.

^^ it's against flag code, last time i checked, to wear an american flag as clothing. Not sure if this is ever enforced or enforceable (I suspect it's not).

Taking an existing flag and turning it into an article of clothing is against the flag code. Wearing a shirt or whatever with an American flag print is not a violation

^ probably. There's been tons of people, including politicians, that have desecrated the flag by the letter of the code, but no one cares.

The only time the media ever brings up the flag code is Fox News, when blacks protest by walking on the flag.

You keep referring to people who are afraid, genuinely worried about what might happen, as racists, and you're gonna lose ground with them.

Don't call them all racists. They're not. That is just you being ignorant.

All of these politicians you're calling racist?

Maybe they're trying to get some face time, maybe they're genuinely afraid for the country. Doesn't give you the right to level the racism charge at them.

I'm going to agree with rjrumfel. It's abject fear that's driving these conservatives to embrace irrational actions, not racism. Some of them are still racist, and this can factor in to how they present themselves, but I think the overwhelming driving force for people who all of a sudden have a problem with refugees, despite the millions we've taken in over the years, is fear.

I can't prove this until surveys come out re the issue, but i'm part of a Facebook group that's primarily immigrants, and many of them are equally afraid of the refugees as the Fox News nutters.

There's one guy on my FB (white guy) that shared a video from a German white supremacist group, i can't imagine he's a literal white supremacist, but i can see who perhaps groups like that grow their numbers in situations like this... but the racism is more a side effect than driving force.

i find it more respectful to the flag for it to be covering your general body over your clothing than for it to be directly covering your private parts as underwear.

that shit's crazy. straight out of a movie that I thought would never happen IRL. The dude just walked straight up to the girl on the ground without a care in the world and put a gun right to her head. I was wondering how she ran away but it said in the text that the gun misfired.

France is still committed to accepting refugees:

from what I can tell, all terrorists identified so far were not even refugees, is that true?

Xenophobic not racist.

Fear is running the show though... Sad that the self proclaimed tough guys are even too scared to do the right things.

^ that's correct though they are still investigating the forged passport link and a few of the terrorists.

What is it called when everyone cares about what happens in France, US, etc and none of the same people react to the same thing happening to russians, kenyans, lebanese, nigerians, etc. I understand what xenophobia is and this is kind of an omissive xenophobia.

^ bingo

It's the same as the people who get outraged when you try and have a discussion about why terrorism or mass murder happens and yell that they can have that conversation later but right now we just need to pray and send condolences.

^^^^ That map is a xenophobic micro-aggression in itself. Why no map attempting to shame the European countries that closed their boarders? You suddenly care when it happens on your front door, but didn't care when it happened an ocean away?

You really think there is just TOO much compassion in this world, eh? A little TOO much prayer - that we need to request people to stop keeping the victims and victim's families in our thoughts?

Maaaaybe it could also be that a lot of us are directly connected to the Paris attacks. Not only on a "this is a super modern and safe city that I've been to, it could easy happen to us" level, but also a lot of us have friends and family who live in Paris, and were directly affected. Should I tell them I'm glad they're safe, but I have to mourn the Beirut bombing victims first, before I can comment on the Paris bombing victims. That way the liberal fucks don't get upset about who I'm praying for.

Or maybe you'd feel better if we only showed compassion towards brown victims? Because I didn't see you getting upset about the lack of response regarding the Russian airplane bombing, that killed 224 people. They weren't brown though, so I can understand why you didn't care.

Hey if you have direct ties to a situation then you should care and be affected. The stuff I am getting at is the mass people changing their facebook picture to the French flag and such. 90% of these people could give two flying fucks about what happened they just jumped on the bandwagon because their friends were doing it and they didn't want to look like the one who didn't "care".

The point is that you are right most people didn't care about the Russian plan being bombed or the people killed in Beirut, but yet decided to all of a sudden care when it was France and the media was all over it. Again, if you were directly affected by one then sure you should care, but in reality most people dont care about any of these. Terrorism sucks and it doesn't matter who it happens to, in the end its innocent people being killed by assholes for no good reason.

When my family came to this country, we slept in churches (without air condoning or shower faculties in 1 case), and on the floor of pastors' houses. I would welcome the opportunity to help how I could.

I'm not sure what right decision is on the refugees. Although I like things that piss off the blow hard conservatives. After terrorists attacks there is a lot of reactions by people and politicians that feed directly into the terrorists goals of "spreading terror" and affecting normal living of everyday life. The non acceptance of refugees though does is not something that I'd consider "letting the terrorists win".
