for whatever reason, I'm just now giving that Mike Krol album a listen for the 1st time

does a pretty good job of filling the void that Jay Reatard left

Oh really? Will have to give it a listen.

Speaking of, has anybody seen the Jay Reatard documentary? For some reason I thought there was a more recent one than Better Than Something, but I'm having trouble finding it and maybe I'm just confused.

No mention of the new (late September) Kurt Vile record yet? Really good stuff.

I have it. I enjoy it but I haven't ever gotten super into him. I like having it on in the background and there are a few songs I really dig. I have a few friends who love that record.

Spinning (and digging) the new Grimes today.

Also, Horrendous' new record is a top 5 metal aoty easily.

Not that it matters, but I have no idea how I will pick a top/favorite 10 or even 25 this year. I cannot remember a year this solid across the board for me in a while.

that Grimes album did absolutely nothing for me

I may try again later, though.

yeah i mean it's admittedly much more straight forward pop. From what I've seen online, it's a very polarizing album and I'm not surprised. It's pretty catchy to me though. Maybe in the way that Kimbra's first album was?

^^^ there have been a number of solid to great albums for me, but none have gotten as many replays as tame impala and sufjan stevens.

both good choices. i spun Tame Impala quite a bit. And Sufjan is top 3 for me easily.

the grimes album is catchy as hell. i've been listening to it a lot. the middle of the album (tracks 4-9) is especially good

^^^^ It's Kendrick by a mile and then a very solid bunch of runners up.

I still can't get that into the Kendrick album :/ I tried back when it came out, I tried again over the summer and it was the very first record on my list of albums to 're-visit' to close out the year, just because most people loved it so much.

I listened to it yesterday again and I definitely enjoy it, but it just doesn't click with me personally on any huge level for whatever reason. Maybe in time, but for now I find myself thinking about what album to play next halfway through. My library is fairly hip hop light though; I'm very hit or miss with what hip hop I can listen to regularly.

name your price purchase for the George Clanton album I mentioned previously:

https://100pelectronica.bandcamp.com/album/100-electronica

I was hesitant when a friend first had me listen but I got more obsessed with each listen and it's an easy top 5 for me this year. such an earworm.

yeah I dig the Bowie song.

Also, I was traveling a lot over the past week. When I was in Dallas I had some unplanned time to myself and decided to just walk around the city and explore and I felt like listening to the Kendrick Lamar record. And I really enjoyed it a lot more for whatever reason and have been listening to it a lot this week now. Funny how that works for me sometimes.

the refrain got on my nerves at first but after several listens it is a really catchy song.

Also, I already really liked the Death Grips album, but for whatever reason lately I've really been getting into it a lot more.

i've been listening to the new deafheaven nonstop for the last week and a half. for some reason sunbather didn't do anything for me 2 years ago, or when i revisited it over the summer, but now i'm hooked on that one too. idk what my problem was.

That's definitely happened to me with multiple records over the years. Some records that I absolutely love now were ones I was lukewarm on, shelved for 6 months or a year and came back to them and for whatever reason it affected me differently.

New Bermuda is my tops this year, largely due to the fact that it is easily in my top 3 but I also haven't had expectations for a new record like that in a while. So, to still get as obsessed with the record as I did even with the built up expectations was pretty awesome. Their set at Cat's Cradle last month was super good too.

Really liking the new Baroness, but the mastering is awful. I haven't heard an album that clips like this in a while.
