^don't think NP is out, but it's streaming.

Trioscapes is legit. I may still like their first one slightly better but this one is excellent too. It's a really good new spin on the often tired progressive jazz / jazz fusion sound. Really interesting to see what they do with just sax, bass, and drums and they pull it all off live too.

He Is Legend gets better with every listen. Really legit rock record and I loved the way they utilized layered guitars. The leads flowing throughout the background make it an awesome headphone listen.

Has anyone checked out the new Kimbra yet? (ffo Bjork. janelle monae, st vincent). About to start that now.

new Deafheaven track "From the Kettle Onto the Coil" is pretty excellent. Still maintaining their sound from last year's landmark album Sunbather but with a few other elements intermingled nicely.

I've only listened once. It was definitely enjoyable but I didn't get the AOTY vibe personally like some people seemed to. That's only one listen though. I've had too many albums and too little time lately.

I had time to go through the new Low Roar album about 3 times now. I have read several glowing 'AOTY' reviews for this as well - mostly comparing it to Sigur Ros, Radiohead, Bon Iver and others which got me excited. My thought after 3 spins: There are parts of this album where all of those comparisons made are spot on. It has some awesome parts, some really beautiful songs, but is just a good album as a whole (definitely worth listening to though). A lot of the songs and even the album as a whole can be summed up as: beautiful but never hits that "a-ha!" moment for me like the comparison artists. Lots of gorgeous tunes that don't build to the same crescendos as radiohead or sigur ros do so masterfully. It will still probably be a good fall/winter album for me this year and could easily be a grower.

Kimbra is growing on me as well.

don't think it's AOTY in my mind, but it's definitely a fun high energy album front to back.

I'm digging the new Opeth. Just don't go into it expecting Blackwater Park. It's a great prog-rock album.

Especially digging Moon Above, Sun Below:

can anyone explain to me where the intense hatred of ed schrader's music beat comes from? is it mostly from shows before devlin was in the band or something? to me they seem pretty rad and inoffensive to me.

oh i like it 100%, i'm just truly baffled by/trying to understand the near unanimously negative opinion i've seen on here following his shows, and his spot on the hopscotch lineup reminded me.

unanimously negative?

Ronny hates Ed because he "can't even play one drum," but that's missing the point

Ed is a genius and I love him and his records

"near"

Every time he plays a show in the triangle it seems like there's an avalanche of hate on this board. or maybe it was just the one show.

But I agree with you.

Anyway whatever nevermind

A little more subdued than I expected from the first single from Aphex Twin in ages.

not really a Flying Lotus fan but I've had a few friends rec it and I read several glowing reviews.

I've listened to it about 4 times today. 1-5, 7, 8, 14 are excellent, but the rest (which a few exceptions) is either filler or something I just cannot get into. Weird dichotomy for me on this record. I'm not entirely disappointed I picked it up because of those 8 songs, they just happen to be really short and almost come off as unfinished Jaga Jazzist songs.

In my frustration with just not finding a way to like the new Aphex Twin, I was at least able to go back and give a listen to Clark's Fantasm Planes and Iradelphic. I think I wrote them off a little too soon. Found a few tracks that I really like, making me look forward to the November release of his self-titled album.

Still can't figure out if the LP reissue is stereo or mono, but I have an original, and the cost is too high to open a new one just to find out.

Packaging is the same foil stuff that's on the Gish & SD reissues, but doesn't really work with the Adore artwork, so that's a bummer.

I've heard good feedback about the bonus stuff in the CD box, though.

even though the foil thing doesn't work, i still like the reissue's cover art better than the original's

i've only heard a few of the bonus tracks, but this version of "let me give the world to you" is pretty great

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mljNsPk0ClE

i wish billy would spend all of his time on the machina/machina II reissues instead of whatever garbage he's about to churn out with these 2 new SP albums.

anyone listened to the new Cold War Kids album yet? this is probably my favorite release this year. the song "Harold Bloom" sounds a lot like "Breathe" by Pink Floyd - pretty cool take on it if that's what they were going for. A lot of their other stuff on this album reminds me of the good days of The Shins

I also really enjoy the new Cold War Kids album, a lot. I have always loved their singers voice

that Run the Jewels album is good too, especially the song with Zach de la Rocha, which is probably my favorite rap song of the year https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvVuEEPM3j0

I love the new Lagwagon album too, but thats probably because it reminds me of their albums from the mid 90s
