the scarring wasn't very obvious around the mouth (which has been mentioned several times). But I could see them not going too extreme/out there with it. And.... it's just for a second but they show him patting his head with a cloth/handkerchief. The light is shining through his handkerchief and it's very green looking. If it were wrapped around his head somehow, someone... say a frightened child, may think he has green ears/hair.

season 2 will apparently feature women in the lead roleshttp://www.avclub.com/article/truedetectiveseason2-women-201553i don't mean to sound like a dick since there are women who read this thread, but that article links to another criticism from the new yorker about the show's lack of strong female characters or whatever. andy greenwald said something similar in his early review of the show. does it really matter all that much? the wire and the sopranos really weren't any better about it.
3/3/2014 5:19:31 PM
Anyone know if the last episode is only going to be an hour? Seems crazy that they are going to wrap it all up in an hour.
3/3/2014 7:36:11 PM
i think it will be another episode similar to the Rust undercover with the bikers episode (which was faster paced than the rest).I think they've got time to wrap it up. I just don't expect the typical, serving the audience everything on a platter type of ending. And I don't expect to see everyone involved getting arrested on screen. They're about to potentially torture the sheriff and get quite a bit of info from him. I figure they (rust/hart) will either catch whoever it is and you know they're turning them over and it's left at that. But more likely, I think they'll kill whoever is involved or they may both end up getting right at the end of it and being killed themselves. They could technically "solve the case" in that the audience will be clear on who was involved and how, but not actually stop it from continuing. That would be pretty bleak, but this show doesn't exactly present brightest outlook on things.

Can't forget about Snoop either. Although she barely counts as a female I suppose.

I think Maggie's dad and their f'd up daughter are involved somehow. too much stuff happened w/ his daughter to just be a side plot.[Edited on March 7, 2014 at 10:19 AM. Reason : asdf]

Side note: Any thoughts on what it was that Marty saw on the VHS tape with the little girl and the cult? I guess it isn't a big deal what it specifically was.
3/7/2014 11:40:29 AM
I'm guess a small girl blind folded and raped by 5 creepy dudes.Enough to make most cringe...including Marty.
3/7/2014 12:25:31 PM
yeah, didn't seem like a huge mystery to me
3/7/2014 12:28:40 PM
It was the rape and murder of that Marie Fontano(sp) girl. The tape was from the reverends house. Rust took it when he was B&Eing

lol HBOGO. great time to fuck up.

I got a feeling this show will get mcconaughey halfway to his EGOT
3/9/2014 9:57:13 PM
Someone needs to talk me into thinking that was a good finale.
3/9/2014 10:01:23 PM
Was exactly what I predicted. I was hoping to be wrong. But I guess it's about their journey, not about the case.
3/9/2014 10:23:26 PM
^^ how was it bad?
3/9/2014 10:50:15 PM
Yeah, pretty much exactly what I was thinking. But I still felt pretty underwhelmed.
3/9/2014 10:52:49 PM
^^^^^I forgot about the EGOT!But how do we get him a Grammy? Do they give Grammys to the people who read books on tape?I'd buy that book on tape.

*shrug* I really liked the finale. It fit perfectly.
3/10/2014 8:14:21 AM
Finale was fucking perfect, particularly the last 15 minutes.

HBOGo fucking up last night was a huge fail. It's happened before but this was the worst. When I finally gave up it was nearing midnight. If they know people use the service (and not care that people share their login, per the CEO) they should probably step it up before Game of Thrones is back. That said I did watch it this morning so I could freely use the internet today without worries of a spoiler--I loved the finale and this series. Thumbs up. EGOT for McConaughey.Dazed and Confused the Musical for a Tony and Grammy. Boom![Edited on March 10, 2014 at 9:01 AM. Reason : ]

overall, i enjoyed the 8-episode series but IMO it is not this epic story/show that it was all hyped up to be. I'd give it a solid B but nothing more for me. there were times where it was just too disjointed, not being able to follow along. the character development was good though; seeing basically the "rise and fall" of each character and their internal struggles was done well.
3/10/2014 11:07:46 AM
I loved it. Andy Greenwald can go fuck himself.
3/10/2014 1:18:13 PM
soooo.... wtf was that wormhole Rust saw right after scanning the final "yellow king" room before he got chopped by Childress? Or was I just seeing things....? That shit definitely wasn't there by the time Marty got there to save the day.
3/10/2014 1:53:22 PM
I believe he experiences hallucinations ever since he did a bunch of drugs while undercover.
3/10/2014 2:02:29 PM
Yeah he was tripping at a very unfortunate time. It happened a few times throughout the show. One time while he was driving his truck. On a side note I'm really interested to see who they line up for season 2 because in my mind they've really set the bar pretty high. I can't imagine being as excited about any other actors as I was when the cast of season 1 was announced. Not to mention that the acting was in fact superb.[Edited on March 10, 2014 at 2:59 PM. 3/10/2014 2:51:27 PM
My assumption with the wormhole is that when he saw it he was at peace and ready to die. He said the stars reminded him of his daughter or whatever.

the framing and lighting of the shot of dude holding Rust up reminds me of something but i can't think what [Edited on March 10, 2014 at 3:36 PM. Reason : maybe something from Immortals?]
