It's one thing to like the series as just a TV show. I can't argue with you on that. But if it's trying to pass itself as some realistic or accurate representation of nearly any aspect of espionage or the Cold War, and you believe it, then you should probably read more.

It would be like saying this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfIAKj3Gl1E) is an accurate representation of the space program.

I think my frustration is that for how good you think the show is now, you would likely find it to be infinitely more appealing if it was based in reality.

I mean, how can anyone actually buy into the show when you have a mom hiding spy equipment behind the dryer in her garage and a dad hiding disguises in his bathroom. Kids are some of the most curious beings on this planet. They would 100% find all that shit just by accident.

The whole point of sending people into a country in a deep cover situation (like Directorate S) is to have them there in the future. The bullshit "spying" they are doing right now would just be done by normal agents. It's just not believable.

Just watched the trailer for Allegiance. Garbage.

Espionage, the Cold War and Russia/Eastern European history are big interests of mine. Not really sure why, just grew up interested in it.

I've lost some of my hatred of The Americans in all honesty. Actually, most of it. I think I just get annoyed when shows are stretched like this. I just feel like you have so much accurate material to work with that is absolutely fascinating and I don't see why writers have to make things up.

That is actually one of the reasons I was able to look more openly at this show. Really I was just being a contradictory dick about the whole thing, haha. I do recommend you check out The Assets though. Only a 9 episode miniseries. You'll definitely learn a lot from that one, particularly the 9th episode which is an actual documentary on what went down.

I love the dad's character and am highly intrigued to see how the Stan thing plays out.

Was utterly heartbroken when Nina was executed (plus she is so damned hot).

Really like this show. I just started it last week, finished season 1 and I'm halfway through season 2. So far season 2 has been a little dull to me, but I'd read that it's the worst stretch of the show and just stick with it because it gets very good again. Loved season 1. I don't know much about the Cold War, so nothing seems too unbelievable that I can't enjoy it. The only thing that kinda seems like a stretch is the FBI agent moving in next door, but ultimately that creates a cool dynamic in the show, similar to Breaking Bad. No overacting or cheesiness which are my pet peeves when it comes to TV shows. This show doesn't really get much love though. If this show was on Netflix instead of Amazon I think it would be a lot more popular.

Incredibly underwhelming. I hope to god that Philip defects with Henry. Paige would obviously stick with her mom. Would be a hell of a way to end a show that has spent the entire time showing you how the profession completely destroys everything around you and that nobody escapes without wounds.
