Lol...I mean honestly it was just something to occupy my time...a lot's been on my mind lately and it gave me something to do that took my mind off things...I was totally in that mood all weekend to just hermit out...

the box I made will either find a use or sit around in my room for a couple of weeks till I go on a throw everything away mode that I go on twice a month and make the next round of toss it.

I doubt the majority of sites that people pin from would complain, especially sites that sell anything (including advertising). Pinterest has driven so much traffic to blogs and retailers that they would be silly to. Half the sites I pint stuff on have their own Pinterest accounts or have mentioned it on their blog or website or facebook Just be smart.

^^^^

In this day and age when people are "sue happy", you can get sued for pretty much anything. And it's a really gray area in the internet/copyright world.

And Pinterest has cleverly "covered their asses" so that if something like this happened, they will be absolved of any liability and that the user will take the brunt of the blame.

So, in other words...just be careful.

"Arkansas teen texts prank to police detective

ROGERS, Ark. — A northwest Arkansas teenager thought it would be funny to text a random phone number saying she hid a body, but the joke backfired.

Of all the local phone numbers she could have chosen, the 15-year-old Rogers girl picked one that belonged to a police detective. Police found the girl's address by tracing her cellphone number.

The prank? To text: "I hid the body ... Now what?" to a random phone number. The teen said she got the idea for the prank from a posting on the website Pinterest.

Police didn't find the prank funny and say it tied up some of the department's resources.

The girl was released with a warning."

It may implode on itself soon though if it does not correct glaring legal mistakes. It's not adequately protecting itself through the DMCA, and the site is trying to shift all responsibility to the users to indemnify in the event of a suit.

It's not doing anything that other sites aren't already doing. Can't they just emulate the policies of Facebook/Myspace/whatever?

I have this one dress I pinned last fall from modcloth. I thought I'd go back and buy it one pay day but I never did. It's been repinned 96 times. I dont get it why though, the dress isn't even available on the website anymore to purchase

They should, but they aren't. For instance, under the DMCA, if you have offending material on your site, you are required to take it down. Pinterest terms state they will take whatever action Pinterest deems is appropriate. Then, if they get sued for violating the DMCA, they'll turn around and hold you responsible, even though they were the ones with notice.

On facebook, you can flag an item as a violation of copyright, and then facebook takes the item down.

Here's a good summation of the problems: http://www.dmcahandbook.com/2012/02/changes-needed-to-pinterests-dmca-policy/

Pinterest has updated their TOS: http://blog.pinterest.com/post/19799177970/pinterest-updated-terms

Quote :
"Over the last few weeks, we’ve been working on an update to our Terms. When we first launched Pinterest, we used a standard set of Terms. We think that the updated Terms of Service, Acceptable Use Policy, and Privacy Policy are easier to understand and better reflect the direction our company is headed in the future. We’d encourage you to read these changes in their entirety, but we thought there were a few changes worth noting:

Our original Terms stated that by posting content to Pinterest you grant Pinterest the right for us to sell your content. Selling content was never our intention and we removed this from our updated Terms.

We updated our Acceptable Use Policy and we will not allow pins that explicitly encourage self-harm or self-abuse.

We released simpler tools for anyone to report alleged copyright or trademark infringements.

Finally, we added language that will pave the way for new features such as a Pinterest API and Private Pinboards.

We think these changes are important and we encourage you to review the new documents here. These Terms will go into effect for all users on April 6, 2012.

Like everything at Pinterest, these updates are a work in progress that we will continue to improve upon. We’re working hard to make Pinterest the best place for you to find inspiration from people who share your interests. We’ve gotten a lot of help from our community as we’ve crafted these Terms.

Thanks!

Ben & the Pinterest Team"

I just pinned a Brooks running skort and just a minute later I get this comment from a stranger

Quote :
""This skirt expresses my frustration with fitness fashion. The largest size offered is a xl! Who needs comfortable workout clothes more than the 2x, 3x or LARGER woman?!?!!!""

I just want to respond with: "I don't know? Not me????"

should I?

I've got pinners mad at me for a pin I posted 7 weeks ago. I follow all of the offbeat empire pages, and they had a blog about seed starter ideas versus using peat pots. I pinned it to remember for next season (as this one I just did seed in ground) to try to keep things cheap or even more green in some instances. The toilet paper rolls that the blog suggested apparently didn't work for two pinners and they are mad that I didn't TRY the method first BEFORE pinning it.

I guess I TOTALLY missed the point of pinterest being an IDEA board to try out at a later date. I told them to follow at their own risk.

I guess I'm gonna make my boards private now. I didn't mind having people I didn't know follow me b/c I felt like having a larger net to get ideas was a good thing. I've found some other great blogs of topics I'm interested in this way. But this is ridiculous.

I read ^ and was confused until I backed up and read ^^^^.

I leave mine public so I haven't looked into it, but is there a way to make certain aspects private or closed? It would be nice if you could separately control keeping your board public or totally private, versus keeping it public but not allowing comments (just following and repins), etc.

My wife has been into this for a while but almost exclusively for finding new recipes/desserts to make and it's been pretty awesome.

I just started an account because I'm into crafty type things and it makes it easy to find cool design ideas if you look in the right places. I like to make cards and presents for my wife so I'll definitely be using it for stuff like that. I just wish there was a way to like/pin things privately so she wouldn't be able to see it.
