All you have to do is convince a qb that you have the potential to flip the field on them and they shy away from throwing to your side. That's 65% of being a corner. It doesn't really help when the other corner is CJ Wilson tho

First team Walter Camp All-Americanalso, for those on twitter...Amerson is tweeting tonight from the @PackFootball page (Go Pack runs it, I think). Pretty cool. https://twitter.com/#!/PackFootball

Dear stupid fuckers who think David Amerson isn't a good cornerback,Please shut the fuck up. He was good last year, and he was better this year.

it's the same as the Heisman, best player on high profile team
12/8/2011 10:26:48 PM
No surprise really. He was up against two guys playing for the NC. Just to have him mentioned as a finalist is big.
12/8/2011 10:28:55 PM
don't worry guys i got this shit on lock next year.
12/8/2011 10:29:14 PM
Well shit, no chance he gets it next year because teams are already avoiding him.I mean with CJ Wilson on the other side, who the hell would throw to his man.
12/8/2011 10:29:29 PM
Amerson was robbed, TA was in, etc. Just another day as a State fan
12/8/2011 10:31:06 PM
being an all-american is awesome. hopefully he continues to have an awesome career here.in other news, this show is the king of awkward interviews
12/8/2011 10:32:54 PM
If anyone expected him to win that against two SEC national championship contenders, you have to be a little delusional. You can hope for it, like I was, but to expect it is a little silly. Regardless, Tatum award winner, first team All-America, finalist for the Thorpe... pretty great year, and great for State too. If he can have even a GOOD year next year (rather than a great one) he could be in the running again. A lot of voters probably saw this year as a fluke so if he can replicate it that will be even more impressive. (Yes, I know that's unlikely, but you never know.)As we know, these awards are vastly biased to successful teams, just like the Heisman. By the statistics Amerson should have walked away with it but statistics aren't the only things that come into play.[Edited on December 8, 2011 at 10:34 PM. Reason : .]
12/8/2011 10:33:36 PM
That was bullshit. If he had been in the SEC or Big 12 he would have won no questions asked.
12/8/2011 10:33:57 PM
all we have to do is play for the NC next year. no problem
12/8/2011 10:35:49 PM

By all accounts, Claiborne is the better player. Just because his stats are better doesn't mean Amerson is better than Claiborne. Is there anyone who really thinks so? It just so happens Claiborne is on the NC team.Unlike the QB award list, the Thorpe award list is loaded with truly great DBs.
12/9/2011 12:05:43 AM
So Luck won the Oustanding Sr QB award as a JR?
12/9/2011 12:17:49 AM
do they use the same classifications as academic classifications? if so, he could be a senior academically (don't know if he his, but could be). i was technically a senior my junior year by academic standards (hours)
12/9/2011 12:20:16 AM
Yea he's technically a senior academically. A junior athletically. So if another shitty team with the #1 pick wants to draft him he could stay and play another year.
12/9/2011 7:35:31 AM
figured as such. reminds me of the WVU/KST game last night. one of the announcers was talking about one of KST's players (foreign guy) and how he had to sit out 20 games his freshman year due to an amateurism investigation (he played semi-pro overseas I think).so the announcer was like: "he's a junior, but really a sophomore since he sat out. so he hasn't come into his game yet because his sophomore year was his freshman year and now he's a sophomore as a junior... blah blah blah" it was mildy amusing hearing this guy fumble through the explanation.
12/9/2011 8:27:16 AM
Considering we haven't had a first teamer in almost 40 years I'd say that's a pretty big deal. Way to go Amerson.TOB sucks at recruiting.
12/9/2011 8:28:41 AM
TOB > Amato, O'Cain, Sheridan, Reed, and Kiffin at recruiting?[Edited on December 9, 2011 at 8:41 AM. Reason : .]

Haha. Answered my question.

12/9/2011 11:11:56 AM
Where did I say TOB sucks at recruiting?
12/9/2011 1:00:15 PM
LOL at the two douchebags who don't know a tongue in cheek comment when they see one.---So looking at our previous Walter Camp all-americans, will Amerson be the only All-American at state that doesn't get his Jersey retired, or does he have a spectacular enough career that we'll see his name up at CF?
12/9/2011 1:17:52 PM
If he has a solidly productive junior year then they'll probably put his name up in the ring, especially if he's an awards finalist again. I don't really see why they wouldn't, breaking the record and generally playing as well as he has. The only hitch would be if he has a huge drop-off after this year, since the ring is (i think) a recognition of overall performance. What are the qualifications for the ring? Does a player have to actually graduate from NC State?
12/9/2011 1:21:44 PM
he hasnt had a career yet. he had one season where he barely ever got his name called and then a breakout season this year. if he has a similar performance next year and maybe decides to stay for senior year...i'd see his number worthy of retiring.[Edited on December 9, 2011 at 1:26 PM. Reason : ^]
