I guess OnSale sold out. When I bought it, I think they had some 7,000 units. I guess they went fast. Just keep waiting. Check out the twitter that dweedle pointed to and you will find it.

http://www.costcentral.com/proddetail/HP_TouchPad_Tablet/FB454UTABA/11394713/that still shows a lot in stock
8/21/2011 8:15:00 PM
and you could always go for the 32GB versionespecially if it might eventually be a fully functional android tablet, since it doesnt have any expansion slots]

Got order confirmation from HP. I guess I ended up paying more with the outrageous shipping fee but I suppose it's worth it for not having to run around town or refresh amazon. Comes out to about 125 a unit. :/
8/21/2011 8:24:50 PM
yeah, im hoping that i can sell my extra one on ebay for like 175 or something and recoup the cost of the shipping
8/21/2011 8:26:08 PM
I may have two coming, grabbed one from amazon in case BBY didn't go through for some reason. I'll post up if someone wants the extra.

8/21/2011 8:27:24 PM
catalyst, did you get it off the small business site?
8/21/2011 8:28:46 PM
woo woo got one on costcentral.i tried to get 2 day shipping but it didn't keep, so i got ground. i'm tempted to try to go back and change it...
8/21/2011 8:29:44 PM
mine is supposed to ship tomorrow and arrive tuesday, fedex 1-day for less than $10
8/21/2011 8:34:02 PM
costcentral is being slow as fuck
8/21/2011 8:39:13 PM
bunch of WTB requests on craigslist offering 150 for the 16GB.I don't think 200 is too much to ask on ebay for my extra 32GB? I'd probably still only break even after fuel/time.
8/21/2011 8:40:28 PM
^^lol did you try hp.com yesterday ^ebay it for $200 before the market is floodedin fact if you put a $250 Buy Now it'll probably sell (http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=hp+touchpad+32gb&_sacat=See-All-Categories)[Edited on August 21, 2011 at 8:43 PM. Reason : .]
8/21/2011 8:40:45 PM
yeah really, compared to hp.com yesterday costcentral was a dream.[Edited on August 21, 2011 at 8:44 PM. Reason : and by a dream, i mean i actually got an order through.]

wonder if Opera will yield any better results?Opera will one day rule the browser market!
8/21/2011 8:55:11 PM
I realized my shipping address is my parent's address. However, my billing address is correct. That's what I get for ordering on an iPhone.
8/21/2011 8:57:27 PM
Yea laxman I got it off the HP small business site. I think I need ti take a step back....I'm bitching about shipping on a device that used to cost $500
8/21/2011 9:01:25 PM
oh, btw. The HP small business site advertised free shipping on the order page...I'm going to call them tomorrow and see if I can get shipping refunded.
8/21/2011 9:17:10 PM
I'm super pumped about this thing. I'm going to be mildly upset when they can't handle the orders and it takes a month to get here
8/21/2011 10:14:18 PM
I wonder if HP execs are kicking themselves seeing how much people actually do want WebOS devices, if only they were priced/marketed a little better?
8/21/2011 11:07:58 PM
well, i'd buy any tablet at that price point. i don't know the first fucking thing about webos, and will attempt to put android on it at the first chance i get. shit maybe i should buy two.
8/21/2011 11:13:57 PM
I've talked to a lot of people who really like WebOS (I don't know a lot about it myself) and prefer its true multitasking ability over AndroidOS and iOSof course a lot of them used to have Palm devices, so their familiarity with the OS might factor into them loving it
8/21/2011 11:15:29 PM
I dunno. I don't think it's that people give two shits about WebOS, given that half the posts in this thread and other places are "I can't wait until they get Android on this thing. It's a $99 piece of hardware that was $500 just a few weeks ago. And looking at this article, it seems like the bigwigs over at HP don't really care too much about it. At least not the ones in charge now.http://daringfireball.net/2011/08/hp_apotheker

8/21/2011 11:17:15 PM
I heard the cost of production for a single TouchPad was over $300
8/21/2011 11:20:25 PM
The cost of the iPad which has very similar hardware is nearly half of that.HP is hiring incompetent people if their production costs are so high. They should have gotten rid of the retard working for them before ditching the tablet. But they are saying they aren't abandoning WebOS and are looking to license it. Hopefully that means people jumping on the cheap TouchPads have a future of apps to look forward to.
8/21/2011 11:22:37 PM
I have a completely random and uninformed hunch that HP and MS are gonna try to link up to put WebOS on Windows Phone devicesIf they aren't planning something like that, they've both really fucked up their positions in the tablet and smartphone market, and neither seems like companies to make giant dumb decisions, at least historically (except for maybe Windows ME)
8/21/2011 11:24:35 PM
guys, i'm starting to get worried that i didn't really get one. i have a confirmation email, but when i log in my order history is empty!
8/21/2011 11:26:05 PM
8/21/2011 11:27:34 PM
The productions costs ive seen for the iPad were based on 3rd party teardowns (by iSuppli i think). It seems HP just is less efficient/competent at designing their hardware than Apple.
8/21/2011 11:34:38 PM
I haven't gotten an email, but i printed out my order confirmation and just realized it's not a real confirmation, but a confirmation that it's going to be reviewed?sucks...
8/21/2011 11:40:44 PM
It's goes beyond apple getting good pricing from the component manufacturers, it is that apple was proactive and invested a lot of capital into those companies to build out the factories. The deal being that apple will pay to build out the infrastructure in exchange for first dibs on the new component at a crazy discount/small exclusivity window, then once it is open to all, apple continues to receive a significant discount. So some of this isn't so much HP not being able to source the parts for less, it is that they weren't proactive in the very beginning like apple was and now just simply can't get deals like that. The thing is, apple keeps doing deals like this so they are going to stay a step ahead of everyone for the time being. The only area these other companies can hope to compete is in software, and unfortunately for them, the apple app store is the king of that particular jungle as well. (and by a mile) They are kinda fucked on both sides of the coin.[Edited on August 21, 2011 at 11:43 PM. Reason : .]

^ that's a factor, i'm sure, but it's not the prevailing factor based on these tear downs:http://www.isuppli.com/Teardowns/News/Pages/ComparativeTablet-Teardowns-Reveal-iPad-Design-Advantages.aspx
8/21/2011 11:47:33 PM
my screen has a blemish...
8/22/2011 1:05:07 AM
brand new TouchPad has F'd pixels?
8/22/2011 1:05:49 AM
It's like someone pressed down too hard on it. on a gray background you can see light leaking almost and it's the size of a fingertip. I only let a couple of people hold it. /calls HP to request an even exchange.
8/22/2011 1:23:35 AM
scored one at Barnes and Noble. Total after everything was $114. Good deal nonetheless.
8/22/2011 1:27:44 AM
^ mother fucker, didn't try there. might go try in person tomorrow.edit: just ordered a second one online. still might go out tomorrow just to see if i can find one in person, then sell one or two of the two other ones, assuming the first one i ordered is even real.[Edited on August 22, 2011 at 1:42 AM. 8/22/2011 1:34:06 AM
Ordered one from B&N. We'll see what happens...they're pretty notorious for canceling orders.
8/22/2011 1:41:37 AM
^ shit is that true? i'm regretting not making an account already.
8/22/2011 1:44:18 AM
^ I just tried B&N and got 2 16gb's for $230 with shipping and tax.@$115 a piece, I'll probably keep one and try to sell the other or something.
8/22/2011 1:53:00 AM
i heard soundboards work well and the audio quality is nice
8/22/2011 2:19:33 AM
^^ i meant the notorious part. i got my order in from barnes and nobles.
8/22/2011 2:24:21 AM
woops, yeah i missed that. i guess we'll see what happens
8/22/2011 3:26:19 AM
hmph...barnes and noble lists the 16GB for 101.95 but the 32 is 599.
8/22/2011 7:21:49 AM
well, HP finally built a buzz for one of their products. I want me a touchpad!
8/22/2011 7:46:14 AM
lol, at this selling rate, HP might come out today and say they're not canceling the Touchpad afterall
