It was 2 hours and 20 minutes long though still felt rushed. It's not like they wasted time on any one scene, they just had a lot to cover and did the best they could, imo.

The scenes that they added to the story (Snow/Seneca) were great. I thought it added to the story.

Even though I thought it could have been 3 hours long it still was a good movie.

Anyone else notice the ethnic differences between district 11 (agricultural) and the rest? Also how they rioted after Rue died? Neither of which were pointed out in the novel.

i always imagined rue as this tiny little thing, who was the spitting image of prim, aka white.

i'm seeing it tonight - but i didn't even make the connection between the race and what district they were in.

Yeah all the black people are in the agricultural district. Rue and Thresh are black too. They didn't distinguish race in the book right? Or am I missing something?

I thought in the book that it was noted that members of District 11 were known for having "dark hair and dark skin", but I could be remembering incorrectly.

Nah, I don't think they mentioned race in the book.

The D11 thing will help when the get to the second movie.

So was the love triangle bullshit/killing people ratio tolerable?

Well considering the whole love story was conceived to aid in the enjoyment factor of the killing I would say it wasn't overdone.

I just assumed they'd force it in the movies because of the teen girl factor.

I think they could have stepped it up and made it R but they would have lost half their fan base. I almost got up and left when they showed the new twilight trailer and everyone clapped.

There was a lot of booing and hissing when that trailer came on. That Dad's Club (Whatever it's called) movie looks fucking awful too.

Didn't get to enjoy the movie as we were stuck sitting down at the bottom of the IMAX theatre. Will probably have to go back to watch it again. I feel like I missed a lot of the visual details.

they obviously couldn't put everything from the book in there, but what i really meant was i'm happy they didn't add too much extra stuff that wasn't in the book

i liked the little bit extra that they had with Seneca Crane and President Snowe....

also, the Prim Katniss exchange of the Mockingjay pin actually didn't go as badly as I thought it might.

the extra with seneca crane and the president was useful, especially for people who are only seeing the movie, but they could have left a little of that out and included madge

I really enjoyed it. I cried probably a little more than most folks, but I'm like that. I do wonder what I would have thought about it if I'd not read the books. Was my enjoyment purely excitement driven? Or is it stand alone a good movie? Less shaky cam and close ups would've been nice.

Anybody else annoyed with the volunteer scene? It seemed... less dramatic then when I read it... No music or anything. very weird.

I thought it was perfect.

I really hated the fact they didn't drive home the "love story" during the arena. It's going to make the other two movies sort of confusing.

Yeah the cave scene was a pretty critical part for the love story...but hanging out in the cave for so long would've been borrrrrrring on screen.

SPOILER

I guess they'll really play it up with a more love triangle aspect in the 2nd movie when she's home and reunites with Gale.

this felt very drawn out to me and they could have cut it down to the length of the scene in the previews and taken the extra time to explain why people had their names in there more than others.

i'm not sure why they spent any time to really show district 12 if they were going to gloss over so much of it. the flashbacks seemed to come at very odd times that would confuse anyone who hadn't read the books.

too much attention on katniss, and not enough on everyone else. but i guess the whole movie is centered on her.

woody harrelson was a riot, definitely added to the film.

i didn't even get the feel that the capitol / president snow were evil, just didn't have enough animosity, felt forced.

wish it had been R and had more violence / gore, but that would take away the target audience (young girls).

spoilers i guess: didn't read the book, saw the movie. not bad (fwiw, my theater had 7 trailers, movie proper started about 18 minutes after the start time. not a peep, yay or nay, for twlight. gi joe was way too fucking loud and prometheus was way too fucking obnoxious.)

there was a lot of

but whatevs, it happens. 2 things: 1) when that dude was gettin savaged by those puma cougs, i swear thought one was gonna pop his face up and say "thanks, kind madam" in a proper english accent. and 2) when they were riding the train back and sean austin's younger bro was like "what are we gonna do now?" i was so ready for the girl to respond with "butt stuff"

seriously though, movie was like bits and pieces of logan's run, running man, cannonball run, final fantasy 6 and 7, and truman show. i've seen reports main chick was "too hot" to play that role. girl's a soft 6 so i dunno what that's all about.

the shaky cam was a little bit ridiculous in the beginning, i was literally getting a bit nauseous, but they cut it out for the most part once they left district 12, i'm assuming it was an intentional choice by the filmmakers to make the audience feel the heightened sense of fear/uneasiness on reaping day or some bullshit like that. i didn't really notice it, or at least wasn't bothered by it again until the fight on top of the cornucopia

Quote :

its been awhile since i read the books, but i don't really remember Snow displaying much animosity in the first book, hes not pissed at Katniss til the end of the games, so you don't really see it come out of him until the next book

^I think that's spot on. Katniss didn't even know she'd pissed off the government until she was about to go into her interview.

Haven't seen this yet. Hoping to go next week, after the crowds have died down a bit.

IMO Jennifer Lawrence looks more sophisticated than Hayden P who just looks plain dumb.
