I thought the movie was above average for a superhero flick. I thought the plot had a nice flow to it and actually made a bit of sense. I thought pretty highly of it until the blue chewbacca costume came out.

because no one reads the last post...

I liked that almost every time Charles and Erik were sitting down together they were playing chess.

Other than Magneto vs. Kevin Bacon there weren't any good one-on-one mutant fights in this movie...Banshee vs Angel was shit (as mentioned before), and iirc there really weren't any others.

Examples of good fights in my opinion were Storm vs Toad in X1 and Wolverine vs Deathstrike in X2.

Btw...I read somewhere in this thread that a human looking Hank Mccoy is somewhere in X2, but its been so long I don't remember it...but I just read this in a wiki page:
Quote :
"Sebastian Shaw appears as Dr. Shaw in X2 voiced by Charles Siegel. He appears briefly on a television screen debating with another well-known character from the comics, Hank McCoy."

i thought there was going to be a rape scene because of this, not that i was looking forward to that kind of thing, because i wasn't, but i didn't realize it just meant him killing people

One thing I didn't like was Xavier telling Raven to join Magneto.

If your little sister REALLY wanted to join Al Qaeda, would you say "You should go for it"

Finally got around to seeing this movie. I forgot it even came out. Much better than the other x-men movies with the possible exception being X2, even then I think this one will hold up better over time, first impression was that this was better than any of the others... of course I just watched X3 on Telemundo so I'm coming fresh off of that experience.

After a post-viewing reading of the thread I see that my #1 complaint (the Angel character) has been mentioned:

Quote :
"it didn't make any sense for her to make as drastic a switch to the dark side as she did.

one minute she's going to be helping america, the next time you see her she's rubbin' up on sebastian shaw, then she's dropping bombs on the navy. just didn't buy it."

That's what got me. So, worst case she's a stripper that is very cynical toward "humans" - maybe she stabbed a john or two making her character darker than what was initially portrayed, but that's about it as far as evil goes for her background.

Later she meets Charles and Magneto the very first people to accept her for who she is. I assume she later becomes friends with the other mutants over the course of the next however long it is then a bunch of strangers show up, murder about a hundred people and she decides to just up and join them on a whim. The last group I joined had people my age to hang with, people I could relate to, a place to stay, and I don't have to strip anymore. You guys just slaughter everyone in your path even when they are begging for their lives. Man that's so much better, sign me up.

Later, before leaving she doesn't even change her mind when the leader of her new group kills one of her friends right before her eyes. Just a "whelp, time to kill everyone that isn't me... because I had to strip for a living." Terrible character, and yeah considering the rest of the movie it would have been better if she wasn't even in the movie at all.

The only angle I can see working is switching teams out of fear, with the whole if you aren't with me you are against me thing. They didn't really play that angle though. 1) It didn't look like Shaw was expecting any of them to make their decision then and there and 2) She had more of a "and what are you going to do about it" look to her than one of fear. At this point I'm sure I already put more thought into the switch than the writers, so I quit.

Other than that the only other hiccup is how Shaw died. Wouldn't he just absorb the energy? He can take bullets and a rocket launcher to the face, but the coin... Maybe the soldiers could have killed Shaw if they just shot really, really slow moving bullets. Maybe Shaw had a Holtzman shield? Or I guess the story is that Charles was blocking his power... I guess it has to be that.

And yeah, now that I've actually seen the movie Frasier Beast looked better.

He made this movie enjoyable for me. Actually, all three of the top billed cast (Bacon, Fassbender and Prof X) came through big time, but he stole every scene that he was in. It makes me big the question of how I forgot about Kevin Bacon. Is he underused, or just a low quantity/high quality kind of person?

Regarding how the coin killed him....Xavier was controlling him at the time. Xavier could have released control but then Shaw would have killed Erik and probably everyone. So Xavier maintained control and it even shows a shot of him in pain like the coin is going through his own head.

I loved that scene.

I haven't seen this yet but it dissapoints me that they messed up Angel's character. It would be so cool if they had an Angel to Archangel transition in a movie. I used to think an Eddie Brock to Venom transition would be cool though.

^Different angel.

This one is in the movie: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angel_Salvadore
Not this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_Worthington_III

And I hate to think how Apocalypse would transition to film.

There wouldn't be 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon if he was low quantity...

Watched this last night and highly enjoyed it. Even the gf liked it a lot. She wants to watch the other x-men now, but I want her to continue to like x-men, so I might not show them to her.

Oh and this was one of my few complaints:

Quote :
"This beast looked like a blue grinch."

I liked Frasier's beast much better.

Emma Frost (J Jones) is hot as fuck.

Quote :
"Examples of good fights in my opinion were Storm vs Toad in X1"

That fight was fucking horrible.

And are people really complaining about Angel switching sides?? It was pretty obvious she felt slighted by humans (like when the agents came by the room and were making fun of them...she was the one most bothered by it). Xavier wanted to work with humans, Magneto wanted to work against them. Pretty fucking simple.

How in the fuck can you put Wolverine in the same ballpark with X-men 3?

[Edited on December 5, 2011 at 11:23 AM. Reason : granted, they ruined Deadpool but X-men 3 was a monumental failure]

They were both terrible enough to not watch, that was my point. The Deadpool issue made me the most annoyed I've ever been at a movie theater. So damn stupid.

Yup. Some stranger comes up, kills one of the first people to ever accept you for who you are, and then not even pause for a moment in joining up with the stranger.

My guess is that Wolverine and X3 are in the same ballpark because they both sucked.

You're confusing the sides that were switched. Angel didn't join Magneto, she left the crew of youngsters to go with with Sebastian Shaw.

"This is my two cents on the movie:

It has a 2 star plot with 3 main actors carrying the movie on their back.

The characters Mystique, Xavier, Magneto, and Shaw were well done. Emma Frost and Beast were just ok. All the other characters are so butchered from the traditional X-men stories that they become completely worthless in terms of story development.

The story is so off course with any major X-men series that if you know anything about any of the X-men history or story lines, you will be face palming yourself for the majority of the movie. It's so ridiculous where this movie goes that you can't even put it into the same universe. It's like this movie exists in an alternate reality of the X-men universe. Maybe that's what it was intended for, I'm not sure. Either way, I'm old school and I didn't like it one bit.

The fight scenes are pretty stupid with exception of Azazel and a few of Magneto and Shaw's scenes.

The CGI was slightly above average in some areas and terrible in others.

Beast looks like a fucking cat.
Emma Frost looks like a walking diamond with eyeballs (I know that's her power but damn it, they could have done so much better).
Angel is the lamest super hero movie character to date.
Darwin has a whopping 5 minutes of screen time but has one of the best abilities. Good job writers...
Havok does a god damn hula hoop dance to project his rings.

Overall, it wasn't terrible but it was good either.
"

I watched this again recently and still feel this way.

I still don't think it was even close to the first 2 X-Men movies and I honestly didn't think Wolverine was that bad until they brought out Deadpool at the end. That ruined it pretty badly but overall, it wasn't terrible.

Brain fart. But the point still stands. A lifetime of being a cast-out versus being in the ruling class? I can see why she made her decision. I don't care if she just made some new friends.
