I said why he would save us money in the very sentence you quotedInstead of taking a potentially starting WR with the pick (i.e. someone who could demand a fairly substantial salary after a couple years in the league) we took a lifetime special teams returnman (i.e. someone who will never get paid more than $500,000 a year in all likelihood). Plus on top of that we traded away another pick to take Armanti, which saves us the money that we would have to pay to whoever we got with that pick^I'm not the only one who thinks that. This topic was discussed ad nauseum yesterday by Adam Gold and Joe Ovies - they were actually the people who brought up the idea, which makes sense when you think about it. why do you think hurney picked Edwards over Ford? Because Edwards played for App State and will bring in more fans? Because he truly believed Edwards would project into a better NFL WR than Ford? Edwards wasnt even a WR coming into the draft, so he is a project to say the least. Ford is an accomplished WR AND returnman. I think Ford returned more kicks/punts this year than Edwards did, so even if he was targeting an explosive returner with the draft pick, Ford would make more sense from that perspective[Edited on January 6, 2011 at 11:19 AM. Ford fell to what, the 4th round? So every team passed on him three times. If he were a guaranteed home run hitter like you're saying, he would've gone much earlier. Also, playing WR in college is not a prerequisite for being a decent WR in the pros.Hines Ward and Antwaan Randel El are living proof of that, as well as a host of other bums like Matt Jones, Ronald Curry and Arnaz Battle

there are far more successful WRs in the league who were also WRs in college than QBs in college, if thats what youre trying to saywe could go back and forth about this all day, I just think Ford is/was more likely to be a starting WR in the league than Armanti Edwards

anybody catch Phil Simms ripping on Luck this morning on the Mac Attack? http://wfnz.cbslocal.com/2011/01/06/mac-a-phil-simms/Also some dude emailed in and said his daughter dates some guy at Stanford who is good friends with Luck, and that Luck is calling a press conference this afternoon to announce that he's staying in schoolI don't buy it]
1/6/2011 12:19:09 PM

I never really loved Jimmy Clausen I just thought he was a good pick for where we drafted him. Certainly nothing like the hype for Luck.[Edited on January 6, 2011 at 1:03 PM. Reason : Phil Sims doesn't seem to have that good of a point]
1/6/2011 1:02:50 PM
i'd have invited her to come sit in the front row too

I like your resolveMost 10 year olds are easily swayed
1/6/2011 2:43:22 PM
If Clausen is the starting QB next year, I have a feeling 1-15 or 2-14 is still a big possibility. We should just trade down, get two studs for the o-line, and draft Luck first next year. [Edited on January 6, 2011 at 2:43 PM. Reason : .]
1/6/2011 2:43:38 PM
2-14 again next year! We can do it!if there's no lockoutplz for lockout?[Edited on January 6, 2011 at 2:44 PM. Reason : quick edit is quick]

1/6/2011 2:44:42 PM
Come on, relax. There are still several stud-possible QB's coming into the draft this year, let's trade down, get some beastly O linemen, pick up a defensive tackle, get another of the big QB's coming in, pick up some WR's and see if we can't turn this shit around without him.And if that plan fails... Let's draft Luck first next year.Explain to me what fuckin sense it makes to stay in school another year KNOWING you will be the #1 overall pick?[Edited on January 6, 2011 at 2:46 PM. Reason : ]
1/6/2011 2:45:33 PM
depending on the CBA, he might've just cost himself about $30 milliongg Luck
1/6/2011 2:47:07 PM
man I have a feeling we're going to be the worst franchise in the league now for the next 2-3 yrs or until richardson croaks or retires, I don't even see how we can trade down when there are no quarterbacks, at least if we get bowers he probably won't be a bust like a rb or qb could
1/6/2011 2:47:12 PM
Andrew Luck is all like

well anyhow, if richardson runs off/refuses to sign all these guys in the off season to make a point about business/labor agreement then expect to be the cleveland browns of the new decade

1/6/2011 2:51:50 PM
Probably going to overpay Da'Quan Bowers now.
1/6/2011 2:51:52 PM
Applies here, too.
1/6/2011 2:52:59 PM
Theres bound to be a franchise out there willing to make an absurd trade for the #1 pick, like another top 10 pick this year, a 2nd rounder, and a future 1st round pick or something
1/6/2011 2:53:08 PM
What an idiot.
