Tennessee Tech's coach Mike Sutton has Guillain-Barre Syndrome. It's an autoimmune disease that results in demyelination of peripheral nerves. It results in paralysis often first manifesting itself in the lower limbs, with the lower legs buckling being a common sign. It can be fatal if it affects the autonomic nervous system resulting in respiratory problems. His story is a pretty good one and should have been put on ESPN's College Gameday. In 2005 he won the OVC Championship and OVC COY. Soon after he was diagnosed with GBS and ended up paralyzed and fighting for his life over that summer. Amazingly he didn't miss the 2005-2006 season.[Edited on November 12, 2010 at 9:00 PM. Reason : ]

11/12/2010 9:10:33 PM
I don't think Smith has made a single 'and one' all game, if the shot is contested at all Smith can't seem to power it in
11/12/2010 9:10:34 PM
lol at wake losing to stetson

11/12/2010 9:12:38 PM
82-69 final
11/12/2010 9:16:20 PM
Leslie-21, Harrow-16, and Brown-14
11/12/2010 9:20:02 PM
they're young, they make some mistakes when they get excited and try to push the tempo too fast, but there is a lot of potential for once, and depth
11/12/2010 9:20:22 PM
maybe it's just me, but it looked like some of the older guys were a little more creative with passes than i was used to seeing. hopefully harrow can rub off on them... [Edited on November 12, 2010 at 9:22 PM. Reason : .]

Just got back from that gam. If only CJ Williams made that dunk at the beginning wow.Big thing I noticed - so many more ball handlers on the court. What Sidney Lowe needs - Someone to coach them how to REBOUND!!
11/12/2010 9:28:00 PM
all of Lowe's teams have been terrible at rebounding
11/12/2010 9:35:08 PM
i would drill them into the ground on defense and boxing out and rebounding - defense is what is going to save us in games when our offense sputters in the tougher games - Lowe needs to start hammering that in every single day
11/12/2010 9:36:03 PM
If basketball players were better at math, they would know that rebounds just about have the highest expected value out of any play in basketball. They allow you to get high percentage shots, and they prevent the other team from getting high percentage shots. Getting points from shots, plays, or defense and stopping points from all those sources are all harder. Rebounds have the highest payoff.I don't know how you make that coaching point, though.

Nice crowd out there tonight. Better than I expected.- Howell looks slow and out of shape. I know he has always been a big guy but man, he gets off the ground slower than any big man I've ever seen. Makes Sean May look explosive.- Smith had a rough start and didn't finish well but I'm not too worried about him. They had a smaller, quick lineup and he didn't get many looks to get going early on.- Brown and Leslie were, simply put, our best two players. Leslie was everything we thought he'd be. Solid jumper to 18 feet, explosive around the rim and freakishly long. Great game for him. 'Zo with a solid, yet unspectacular game.- Harrow was decent offensively at best tonight and bad defensively. I counted at least a half dozen times where he went under screens and gave up wide open 18-22 foot jumpers. I know he isn't the strongest guy but he has to fight over/through the screens or he'll be getting rained on all year from deep.
11/12/2010 9:46:24 PM
Only complaint about the game was rebounding....we looked terrible on the boards. Other than that I thought we played well. CJ Leslie looks great. 1-0!
11/12/2010 10:03:10 PM
We have to get better at rebounding this year.
11/12/2010 10:14:34 PM
When is the person that usually does the undefeated teams in college basketball thread going to get it going?
11/12/2010 10:42:46 PM
anybody see what happened to Harrow when the intentional foul was called? i was watching the developing fast break.my take on the freshman (not really anything new):CJ Leslie is the man.Brown is rough around the edges, but moves smooth, plays good defense, and will be goodHarrow is quick, can pass very well, but lacks toughness and smarts on d
11/12/2010 10:48:20 PM
^Him and the big man (McMorrow, I think) got tangled up a little. And McMorrow kinda threw his arm/elbow at Harrow and knocked him down. I didn't have the best angle, I was behind the goal and it was blocking my view, but it definitely looked intentional...but, from my angle, it looked like Harrow may have helped sell it. But I didn't have the best look at that play...[Edited on November 12, 2010 at 10:57 PM. Reason : a]

I was on the front row on the baseline in front of where that hit was, Harrow definitely sold it Hansboroughesque. That being said, our rebounding is awful. I must have yelled at them to keep their hands up like 20 times.Furthermore, our presence inside the paint needs work. Multiple missed dunks, a few walks, Harrow getting blocked twice going up for the easy layup, Tracy not getting up a few times... It's plain rough. [Edited on November 12, 2010 at 11:23 PM. What happened when he had to go out of the game and into the locker room?
11/13/2010 12:02:59 AM
So did anyone else find the handling of the student entrances tonight back to "beyond ridiculous"? We were playing Tennessee Freaking Tech, and there was a line halfway around the arena at tipoff. Imagine if we had been playing the Holes? Im in the process of emailing the Debbie Yow hotline, but I cant be the only one that sees this as a major problem...or has the problem gone on for so long that everyone has given up on it ever getting any better?
