Playing single player right now. Not sure if it will work on my laptop because all of the item boxes in my inventory were coming up as some weird brown/light brown error box.

Fun as shit though. Had a great "oh fuck" moment when a creeper got into my cave dwelling and detonated, destroying my craft table and my chest of supplies

I'm finishing up a paper, then I'll finish setting up the server by tomorrow. I'll have Wyloch send me the map when it's set up, so there shouldn't be any major rollbacks. I will be running anti-grief and a few fixes.

At the moment we are planning on running the server open to the public with a whitelist, with a reserve list for TWWers. What this means is that to access the server you'll have to be on the whitelist, and TWWers will be able to get in even when the server is full. I'll delay public whitelisting for a bit so you guys can grab up whatever real-estate you like.

We've been running the server 24/7 for a few days with no lag for 15ish people. We can also scale it up whenever to accommodate more. Should be online with the map loaded by tomorrow evening.

Still crashing like crazy

And someone keeps fucking up my fort layout, stealing all my dirt

^I think I accidentally found a straight vertical hole (no ladders) earlier that drops down into the bottom of your mine. But that might have been someone else's. I was just happy to get out of it without having to dig by hand. Griefing, or did someone intend to make a completely unmarked pitfall into some lava?

Also, about the water blocks that are required to make waterfalls in multiplayer... how do people get those? Does the host have to spawn them and give them to people?

Gotta do something about the server

Lag and crashes are making it unplayable

I'll have the map running on the new server tonight. Hopefully everything will be pretty much lag and crash free.

Where's all the iron at? I have pretty large cavern hollowed out just above the bedrock. Right now it's 5 squares high and maybe 100x100. I have a hojillion redstone dust but only like 40 iron ingots. Only using diamond pickaxes (or stone when those finally break).

Every time I see a cool screenshot I'm immediately suspicious that they're running in creative mode because I can't find enough iron to build anything.

Also skeletons and lava can kiss my ass.

I've had no trouble finding iron, I was even doing ok with diamond until I went to put it in a chest and it disappeared

it's been difficult trying to work on shit on the server with little/no resources when I know I have a metric shit ton of everything I need on my single player map

you don't think this is a lot??

Seriously though, find a (huge) natural cave network. I don't think ore is any more plentiful there, but since so many blocks are already exposed, you come across a lot more. I was able to find like 100+ within some caves.

If you want to do it yourself, I don't think carving out one area is a good idea. Ore arises in veins which span many blocks. I'd say you expose yourself to more ores by digging one long tunnel.

the most efficient way is to carve out 2x1 tunnels every 2 blocks, with intersecting 2x1 tunnels every 2 blocks (if that makes any sense), so you expose the most surface area with the least amount of work.

Haven't tried building my minecart system yet but if every 2.6 blocks of track is 1 ingot, then yeah, I'm gonna need a lot of iron. Not to mention 5 a piece per minecart. This is why I'm always dubious of minecart videos online. Playing the game straight has illustrated that it would take a long fucking time to collect enough iron to do anything with minecarts.

So... you have 100+ track pieces. Sounds good!

After stupidly building my HQ far away from my spawn, I built another base at the spawn and connected them. AND I have another track that goes from the build ceiling to bedrock. Trust me, it's possible.

Cartograph

http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=13134

I did quite a bit of manipulation afterward because I wanted to clearly see my man-made tunnels relative to my bases. Cartograph has a neat "cave" mode, but the output resolution is tiny.

just checked out a youtube that had a good idea for iron: dig down at an angle until you hear running water or a mob and dig in their direction.

Now, to find an easy way to deal with skeletons without getting pwned.

Ideas? How about using rock or something to throw up a barrier that they have to corner around? I have a hard time finding cover from their arrows or even dodging them.

made a spiral blockcase straight down near a neat natural lava waterfall

found some redstone a few levels above an admin block!

dizzying as fuck to get up and down there though

if i could ever remember where my spawn point was i'd build a base there - as is, i have a minibase with a tall crow's nest about halfway between my main base and my spawn point (or at least where i think it is)

do bows ever fatigue?

Bows never fatigue. Use your redstone and 4 iron to make a compass. It always points to your spawnpoint.

Like to point out that this game is amazingly fun

I set up shop near Azaka and the Aqueduct -- hollowing out a mountain there. Gonna try to make an underground rollercoaster, maybe, as I get more resources.

Can we please turn on night-time monsters? I don't believe there's any other way to get gunpowder, and honestly, I'm tired of digging stuff (when moving massive weight)

Monsters no work in multiplayer yet. (they work but are unkillable)

Also, seriously? collecting gunpowder from creepers is super tedious.

Everything is set up. I'll have the map uploaded in a few minutes.

Anti-griefing (no fire/TNT) is installed. I have everyone that posted thus far on the whitelist. You also have to get verified by a mod for build access. Right now the mods are Netstorm, The_DK, Wyloch, and myself.

I've tested the server pretty thoroughly in terms of stability and lag. Depending on how many are online I may need to scale it up a bit. Just keep me updated of any lag/crashes/etc here.
