i can't wait for the January transfer window to open so i can sign with ruckus fc
8/25/2010 6:13:30 AM
So, in summation, Larry failed to bring the Ruckus to the ladies, and kadwackle is looking forward to lez'n out next week.
8/25/2010 9:09:41 AM
Actually it's not next week we're off kat, it's the week AFTER that.
8/25/2010 9:35:39 AM
Yeah, the word is bye.
8/25/2010 9:38:24 AM
8/25/2010 11:49:50 AM
I'm sorry but if your practice in a rec soccer league is anything other than small sided scrimmaging, then it's fucking dumb
8/25/2010 11:55:07 AM
Eh, I dunno, a lot of people could benefit from simple passing drills in that league, Yours Truly included.
8/25/2010 12:01:56 PM
^^My team just started playing together and I would like to get at least 11 guys there, so we could have a 10 vs 1 full field scrimmage, but it doesn't look like that is going to happen.
8/25/2010 12:33:01 PM
8/25/2010 12:43:51 PM
Seriously though, what kind of drills are you doing? Practicing set pieces?
8/25/2010 1:33:46 PM
When I played for Hibernian, we did practice set pieces. Believe it or not, it helped. Now, we do short-sided because people don't actually COME to practice. We have some beginners on the team who would benefit from passing and trapping drills.I find it funny that you think it's "fucking dumb" when even the pros work for a majority of the time on their fundamentals.
8/25/2010 2:03:51 PM
8/25/2010 2:27:23 PM
I find it funny you're comparing an adult recreational league training regimen to that of fucking professionals. It's for fun, it's recreational, you should take it as serious as you'd like to. Expecting the majority of people to take passing drills in a play-for-fun league seriously (or to actually come to practice) is dumb.If there are people who want to do it, fine. I can just say I've never played on a team like that where people would waste time on drills but whatever.
8/25/2010 2:32:56 PM
8/25/2010 2:48:54 PM
srs business in TASL C and co-Ed leagues I seecarry on, ballers
8/25/2010 2:55:40 PM
Yeah I tend to agree... Practice for a C and Co-ed League is a little much. I can understand wanting to get together pick up games/short sided games (that's what we did for IM soccer) and what not, but actual drills.... Playing in a top division would be different.
8/25/2010 3:00:44 PM
8/25/2010 3:32:32 PM
passing drills are pretty worthless in these leagues. especially if you're only practicing as a team once a week. passing/trapping ability is rarely the #1 problem of a team. 98% of team have problems with communication, playing as a team, and keeping shape. if you're not doing keep away/small sided, it's going to be a waste of time in the long run.
8/25/2010 3:48:13 PM
Basic arithmetic is worthless when you're an accountant. I think what you "too cool for practice" cats need to realize is that most people aren't having fun if they feel like they're embarrassing themselves. Confidence in your game is just as important at the grassroots level as it is if you're hitting chip shots over the keeper at the World Cup final. Practice helps to build confidence in yourself, as well as your teammates. Here's another example:Let's say I just bought a guitar. I want to play it. But I'm afraid I'm going to mess up. So I just let it sit there. What fucking good does that do? What sort of sense does that make? You guys are sitting there telling me that practice is pointless, when I know for a fact otherwise, and I know for a fact that the majority of the teams in this setup hold practices at least once a week. Get a fucking clue.[Edited on August 25, 2010 at 6:00 PM. Reason : I'm gonna call CASL and tell them to cancel all practices, because at their level it doesn't matter.]
8/25/2010 5:51:48 PM
^ Confidence can be gained in small side/pick up as I suggested... If you feel it is necessary to work on the fundamentals such as trapping, passing, etc. then you can do that with one other person on the side not at a "team practice". Or get one of these: Edit for CASL comment: When you play classic/challenge soccer you are likely with the same team for 5+ years! And you are able to hold practices at least 2x a week. CASL soccer and Adult soccer (especially C level) are not the same league. In CASL you are the best of the best in the area, I don't think that these adults are claiming that they are the best in Raleigh especially since they might be embarrassed because they don't have basic fundamentals. .^^ Agreed the biggest obstacle in this kind of league play is becoming familiar with your team and communication.[Edited on August 25, 2010 at 6:15 PM. Reason : ..]
8/25/2010 6:08:59 PM
I never said fundamentals were worthless. But does practicing them for an hour once a week make that much of a difference in a rec league?Nobody's "too cool for practice" if the practice involves the fun parts of the game, small-sided team games or keep-away of some kind, which is what I originally said. And doesn't that give you an opportunity to work on fundamentals and build confidence anyways? If there's a group of players that really need the extra dedicated drills, then by all means, go for it... but to expect an entire team to show up for it is just dumb, in my opinion. Obviously it's more than just me that feels that way or I'm sure you'd have your entire team showing up and doing short-short-longs every week.
8/25/2010 6:09:12 PM
LOL short-short-long
8/25/2010 6:20:38 PM
You guys still don't have a fucking clue what you're talking about, and at this point I don't have to justify anything to you, but here I go anyway:We aren't running drills, it is short sided - as I said beforeWe practice at least 2x a weekAnd again I'll point back to my previous team's improvement at defense when all we did was practice set pieces. You're right - we did get people who didn't think that was "fun" and they didn't show up to practice.... and they were also the ones who got caught out on defense in games because they didn't know what the fuck to do.As far as CASL being the best in the area.... well, that's tough. Considering how they're the ONLY THING in the area I guess you're right. Which sounds a bit like TASL..... unless you're fluent in spanish and hang out with the latin community and can play in La Liga games. But La Liga isn't even sanctioned. But seriously.... call those kids. Let them know they don't have to practice anymore, since they're not playing professionally and all.
8/25/2010 6:32:26 PM
you guys in here arguin' bout practice.not a game. not a game. practice.here we are try'na have a talk about scoring goals and postin' shut-outs and ya'll in here arguin' bout practice. how many tasl folks you know score 4 goals a year talk about practice? how many multiple-team-playas you know go to practice? practice, man.practice.

^^I wish my team would practice, so we can pwnt your team this Saturday. The weather is going to be great Saturday and we have a 4:00 pm kickoff at the beautiful and redone TBP field 2, so it should be fun no matter what the outcome is. Oh...and Friday Night Soccer is back for those of you who can't find a team.http://www.tsdnc.org/[Edited on August 25, 2010 at 8:31 PM. Reason : .]

Gotta indoor game tomorrow night, hope we can repeat something like our 10-2 blowout from last week. You Hibernian guys should thank me, the work team I organize is giving a couple guys on your team an extra day of practice every week
8/25/2010 10:27:32 PM
^That sucks! I need Hibernian to not be in form on Saturday.
8/25/2010 10:29:31 PM
OH MY GOD PASSING THE BALL AROUND IS THE MOST RIDICULOUS THING I'VE EVER HEARD OF.I swear I've read some of the stupidest statements in this thread.

8/26/2010 7:36:37 AM
How many people said they could make it to practice tonight for Sporting? At this point I think anything would help. I don't see how we could implode much more than we did last week.[Edited on August 26, 2010 at 8:56 AM. Reason : .]
8/26/2010 8:53:39 AM
^About 7. That is ok. We need to work on 4 vs 2 fast breaks. I still wish we could get 11 together for a 10 vs 1 though. Oh well.
8/26/2010 10:20:36 AM
what is a 10v1?
8/26/2010 10:55:29 AM
8/26/2010 11:05:34 AM
^^^ I think we should do some 5v1 or 4v2 keep away with the larger side playing fairly stationary.
8/26/2010 1:39:51 PM
8/26/2010 1:44:15 PM
ahahaha ive wanted to ask what a 10v1 twice now but was afraid to ask...lol

8/26/2010 2:03:58 PM
so... you want to do shadow work with an adult rec league? LOL
8/26/2010 2:09:11 PM
8/26/2010 2:16:04 PM
we would do some intense drills if we were playing someone like leesville or green hope...but coach would just roll a ball out and we would scrimmage for half an hour if we were playing a lesser opponent like new bern or someone of that ilk
8/26/2010 2:49:57 PM
ahahaha amac lookin for some bbq debate ITT
8/26/2010 5:36:35 PM

In Raleigh and looking to play some pickup tonight. Anyone know of anything?I was thinking of hitting up the upper intramural fields, do they still have goals/lights?
8/26/2010 6:50:56 PM
there will be plenty of people at frat court, i'm sure.
8/26/2010 7:14:43 PM
There aren't any lights there, though, are there? I haven't been there in like 4 years.
