you know what's gonna be funny is when the Kennedy's really do call on them to help out and they're like "fuck you, ted chaough!" and hang up

The first Honda car won't arrive in the U.S. for another five or six years and it's about that long before their first super bike is manufactured. They're still small potatoes outside of Japan.

I could have sworn honda was selling bikes in the US as early as the late 50's.

They were (I mean there was a friggin episode centered around it)

But the CB750 and its siblings, which put Honda on the map, didn't go into production until 69/70

We're in, what, 64 or 65 now? Honda isn't that big of a deal in the States.

I assumed it was the Honda Cub, which was a hit in the US in the 60s.

Their "You Meet the Nicest People on a Honda" campaign is pretty famous.

Most popular bike in the world, but not so successful here

Quote :
"In 1959, American Honda Motor opened its doors, and the Super Cub made its first voyage into an overseas market. This was a mere ten months after the model’s release in Japan. The decision rested on Fujisawa’s conviction that "in order to truly succeed we have to succeed in the toughest market of all."

But American Honda’s Cub sales proved lackluster. The US market was dominated by motorcycles of at least 500cc displacement, and the pervading image of motorcycles was “rough and dangerous.” Despite this, they designed a Mini-Trail (U.S. version of the 90 cc Hunter Cub) and other new models that catered to the US market and used the mass mailing strategy to expand their sales network to sports equipment and fishing gear retailers, establishing a sporty image for the brand."

And going by the show's chronology, that campaign has already debuted. In reality, it was created by Grey.

I didn't mean that to be a theory-buster. Just thought it was neato factoid.

I also come off as downplaying Honda too much, I think. They had a foothold in American in 1965, and the cub was a big part of that, but I don't see them replacing Lucky Strike. They're nowhere near that.

don and betty really deserve one another.

and i think the company will be fine.. they "got over the hump" or whatever with peggy's help. though clearly she's set for a drastic rise by the end of the series

not the best of the shows finales thus far, but man this season was freaking amazing.

no new billings for 10 weeks and they lost over 50% of existing with Lucky Strike... and a quarter mil new company is enough to save them? Seemed like they were pretty much on the brink

They left the whole Cancer Association and Cosgrove refusal thing just hanging too

Awesome season but the finale just didn't live up to the rest of the season, imo

yea was definitely weaker than the rest of the season.

i wonder if they'll do a whole fast-forward thing between the seasons, or if they'll pick right up. i was thinking they showed enough signs of life with the business that they could survive a bit new (more and more accounts will sign now that they've got their first couple of new accounts post-tobacco)

and i had a feeling that joan was going to keep the baby.

- smoking hot
- good with kids

^ I kept noticing that too.

Also I was really glad they made the teeth shout out, because those things are hideous.

The episode wasn't really that bad and I think the only reason some people weren't wowed by it like the others is because the season as a whole left the bar rather high. I will be really interested in seeing how the next leap forward goes down, since that means Don will have likely been married for a bit.

I am fairly confident it was at least an 8 month jump, which is one of the shorter ones of the series. Last season ended after Nov. 23rd 1963 and then we moved up to a few months before xmas in 1964.

Poor Don, Faye is going to bring him down with her knowledge of his past. Too many people know about it between Betty, Pete, Faye.

Faye doesn't seem like the scornful type to me, so I don't see that as an issue. I think that last scene was important, and we'll see that Don isn't as happy as he thought he was going to be.

I don't think will do anything, either. i think the show's producers were trying to tell us that by the protracted nature of the break-up. her role on the show is probably over. On top of it, Don can also affect her career negatively, and I think mutual destruction isnt in each other's best interest.

was a pretty sick burn. I also don't think she's going to bother exposing him.

Betty's attempt to get back with Don was appropriately pathetic, and very gratifying considering she was in rare bitch form.

Faye will not want to get pulled into a petty fight with Don. She is proud and i think if we do see her again she'll be helping another firm hit Don where it hurts the most. I like Megan but there is already so much working against their relationship. I do think we see Megan and Peggy coming into conflict if Don promotes Megan to copywriter. Megan is quiet and manipulative and we possibly see her become more aggressive next season now that she's bagged Don?

Faye exposing Don would really be out of character, she was the one who encouraged him to open up about his past and her punishing him for doing so seems inconsistent even if she is pretty pissed about their breakup. She's been one of the most emotionally mature characters the show has ever featured, she's like the anti-Betty.

In a season full of Don making mistakes, that was maybe the dumbest one yet. I was shocked that after he spent the entire second half of the season pulling himself together (ever since that night in the office with Peggy, when Anna died), he goes and proposes to his secretary.

Also, I think this is the first time I've seen Harry Crane not wearing a bowtie.

^haha, I watched some Wonder Years recently and it wasn't as good as I had remembered it (things rarely are) but it wasn't terrible either (unlike Alf which does not hold up at all). I wish I could find a better rip of it than the shitty VHS quality stuff on bit torrent, but I doubt they'll release it on DVD anytime soon because the rights to the music are so expensive.
