^^^Yow is all talk. She talks about refusing to accept the status quo yet is keeping all the staff. Fowler was not the only problem. Keeping incompetent people like Asst. AD Annabelle Vaughan Myers and expecting different results, even in a different seat on the bus, is still a buswreck. Sad. Nothing is changed.
8/5/2010 6:21:26 PM
^ if you think she can just go in and start firing people left and right then you're delusional. You have to do these things delicately and play the political game. That's why ADs get paid the big bucks. The good ones know how to play the politics and bureaucratic bull shit but still get results.
8/5/2010 6:33:03 PM
^this.god damn, she hasn't even officially been here for a month yet.

I can say this about her... at least she is out in the public making statements and writing letters she is visible... even if she makes mistakes you cant blame her of not trying.all jed did was play on his jetski and smoke cigars
8/6/2010 2:18:00 PM
gg to Yow for trying to be proactive. She is at least trying to do her job and represent NC State athletics well. We all know all Fowler would have probably just tweeted fat ass Marvin asking him if he could come to the next party.[Edited on August 6, 2010 at 2:23 PM. Reason : g]

I'm pretty sure she didn't mean it to be political but that was such a smart move with her making agents on notice public. Makes her look proactive and keeps some of the light shining on UNC and makes them look like they are doing nothing.not only is her credibility impeccacle, but she's smart.
8/6/2010 3:45:41 PM
and the N&O is publishing a positive NCSU article for once. +1 credibility.

^ this. I find that photo to be a good combination of professional and edgy. Also, +5 credibility for each of the achievements of the fantastic move of putting agents on notice publicly right now:1. Cashes in on hot topic media headlines to get some positive attention for NC State (us)2. Back-handedly smacks UNC in the mouth while they are in a very vulnerable position3. Makes NCSU appear to be a stand up school that cares about it's institution and it's student atheletes4. Advocates her position as a no shit taking AD who wants the best for the program5. Puts NCSU on the side of the NCAA and financially protects NCSU against financial harm caused as a result of agents, if (god forbid) we were to find ourselves in this shit storm.

I need to see her fire at least one of our head coaches before I fully support her.And it should be one of these:Tom O'Brien: 16-21, 9-15 vs ACCSydney Lowe: 20-44 vs ACC (non conference games don't mean a damn thing)I wouldn't mind seeing a change in softball either...they have barely hit .500 in ACC games over the last 7 seasons
8/11/2010 10:39:36 PM
yeah, we really should have fired Lowe and blown up our top 5 recruiting class. That would have assured us of being cellar dwellers for at least 2 more years.
8/11/2010 10:43:54 PM
NC State doesn't have a coach named Sydney Lowe on payroll.
8/11/2010 10:49:48 PM
a top 5 recruiting class that I have no doubt will all leave within 1-2 playing seasons
8/11/2010 10:50:30 PM
please stay out of sports talk with shit posts like that
8/11/2010 10:56:09 PM
^^you sir, are profoundly ignorant about the state of our basketball program (and I'm most certainly talking about things besides wins and losses).
8/11/2010 11:14:08 PM
I don't believe that a good recruiter = a good coach(I'm not saying a coach couldn't be both, but Lowe certainly is not)[Edited on August 11, 2010 at 11:17 PM. Reason : -]

I sent an email to gopack.com for the administration regarding tailgating restrictions and got a response from someone lower, then a follow up from Dr Yow:Steve, I need some time to see everything before I can jump in and make a request of campus. This is a priority to consider. Just give us (me) some time to check it out this season. Hard to make a recommendation for something I have not yet experienced personally. Go Pack. Debbie YowWasnt expecting that, gg
8/11/2010 11:19:52 PM
I'd take a coach that can cover his sucky coaching with talent (Roy Williams, for example) as long as he can keep doing it every year or two. Then if somebody's available later to take over a top-25ish team, maybe you won't lose much.. or maybe Sid's a good coach

You keep repeating 20-44 like we don't all know what his ACC record is, and unless you've got something a little more insightful I'm not interested in arguing with you further. If we fired Lowe the new coach would be left with a roster of role players with NO incoming recruits and Tracy Smith probably bolting for the NBA. It would take a new coach at least 3 years to put together a competitive team in that situation, while if we hire a new coach AFTER this season he could probably win much quicker since Harrow and Brown will almost undoubtedly be back for their sophomore seasons. Even if you think Lowe is and always will be a terrible coach firing him before this season would have been moronic.
8/12/2010 12:14:10 AM
I agree that firing him now would be a mistake, he just shouldn't have been hired in the first place. But with the new AD in place, she should already have it in her mind exactly what needs to happen in order for him to stay after this season and not let the alumni association persuade her any differently.[Edited on August 12, 2010 at 12:21 AM. ^^Other than 2009 the baseball team has been great...10 postseason appearances in 14 seasons, including 6 straight from 02-08 with 2 super regionalsThat's the most consistent positive performance we've had in any sport[Edited on August 12, 2010 at 12:29 AM. Reason : -]
8/12/2010 12:29:00 AM
he has the worst record of ANY baseball coach we have ever had.they have been terrible and inconsistent. we should be a lot better than what we are.Avent sucks and there are times im like wtf is he doing??? there was MANY times this offseason where he didnt make calls and moves when EVERYONE in the stadium knew he should.he sucks.
8/12/2010 12:33:45 AM
8/12/2010 12:35:11 AM
meant to say postseason...typo so what.he still sucks and you know it, he is the worst big 3 coach we have at the moment.
8/12/2010 12:36:59 AM
I say he's the bestThe 2008 post season was incredible, I felt he managed those games against South Carolina very well.

8/12/2010 12:53:39 AM
you said it for me, no need for me to say it. thanks for admitting it though.
8/12/2010 1:04:16 AM
The issue with Avent is how we haven't been able to build any kind of consistent success after either of the Super Regional appearances ('03/'08). I don't think we can call him the worst of the 'big 3' coaches though. He has been here a lot longer than TOB or Sid and has had more of an opportunity for success, but he has had some legit postseason experience. I do think this is the make or break year for all 3 of these coaches though, have some real success or you're gone.
8/12/2010 1:04:21 AM
^^you make me wish that NC still performed forced sterilizations of the mentally disabled.
8/12/2010 1:26:35 AM
Avent's coaching at the Regional this year was questionable at best.We had as good of 1-5 hitters (Wilson, Poulk, Poulk, Riggins, Ciencin) in the conference with a pretty good 1-2 punch with Jake and Cory and still finished tied for 7th. I'd say his seat is getting warm.

i would be angered if i was sitting here unemployed and twiddling my thumbs on TWW. fact of the matter is that i got a world class engineering education, and got hired before i even graduated, making good money. when it comes down to it, these rankings should account for more of the "real world", a.k.a what happens AFTER graduation. look at those #'s and you tell me whose institution has an upper hand...a liberal arts place like Carolina that pumps out self proclaimed poets, or a place that pumps out engineers that continually shape the future through innovation.

All that article tells me is that State has the money to spend, but is not spending it. I think that Woodson, Yow, etc. and this change in regime at the top of the university will change this trend.
