Yeah I suppose not having the title game makes sense for the schools involved. Most title games are added simply for the whole money aspect of it.

I assume he met better results in the BCS as of late
6/15/2010 8:55:56 PM
If we make the assumption that the 6 BCS conferences get that distinction because they are the strongest conferences and therefor harder to get through unscathed (with the BCS bowl berth being a reward for getting through one of these conferences) then I would argue that a MWC as I described above would be harder to get through, potentially, than the Big East and possibly the ACC.But that's mostly based on my perception how the top teams in each conference perform. It makes the ACC kinda iffy for that equation, because the ACC hasn't been top heavy of late but has been consistently strong in the middle.[Edited on June 15, 2010 at 9:20 PM. Reason : added "my perception", because this is just an opinion and I don't want it to sound like fact]
6/15/2010 9:20:06 PM
I think everyone's perception has been skewed by a lot of media hype from this past season. The MWC has had some success the past few years, but most of that has been from 2 or 3 teams. I feel like most of the Big East and ACC teams could whip 3/4ths of the MWC teams in any given year. Of course, the other side of things (assuming the MWC is in fact stronger) is that the BCS isn't really about the best teams Its about the money.

This is exactly how I predicted things would turn out, though I also predicted that the Big XII would go after 2 more teams, possibly any two from Arkansas, Memphis, TCU, Houston, or even BYU.
6/16/2010 3:15:56 PM
I think BYU and TCU would be nice additions, personally.
6/16/2010 3:27:44 PM
This dissapoints me. I was hoping for a PAC 16 so that the acc felt compelled to divide up the big east wiu the big ten to become a bball supe conference.
6/16/2010 3:31:15 PM
no fucking way arkansas leaves the SEC....i think 16 team conferences are fucking stupid....for playoffs have pac-12? (?), big -10? (srsly wtf?), big-12? (pulling 2 more from somewhere...), SEC, ACC, big east and 2 other conferences (mountain west? (might need another conference or 2 as well)) go up to 12 teams each, champ from each is the auto berth 8 top seeds, other 8 teams are at large or other conference winners, then go from there (+4 games max), or even just have a 8 team play off (+3 games max for a max of 16 total for the 2 teams in the NC game)but that's another thing, probably to come up later[Edited on June 16, 2010 at 4:19 PM. Expansion beyond 12 makes no sense for the SEC or ACC because of their current contract with ESPN.The Big 10's tv network and the Pac 10's ensuing tv deal next year does make financial sense, but expanding for the sake of expanding without adding revenue to the conference is silly.Get a legit playoff system like the other college football divisions have and this all of this slouching towards 4 mega conferences nonsense comes to a screaching halt.

I am pretty sure there are clauses in tv contracts that open up renegotiating the deal based on expanding into new markets......at least I would hope so.

Arkansas would be crazy to leave the SEC for the remaining Big 12. It's a Texas Longhorns centered conference that will last only as long as Texas' ego is sufficiently fed and pockets are properly lined. They stayed because they can have their own television network. The remaining Big 12 will still follow its unequal revenue model, but only now Texas stands to gain even more from Nebraska's and Colorado's defection. Who would want any part of that, let alone voluntarily choose to be a part of it? Expansion isn't about rivalries, it's about money. Arkansas' best bet is to stay on the SEC gravy train.[Edited on June 16, 2010 at 9:36 PM. Reason : ]

So now that the Pac-10 and the Big Ten now have 12 teams, where do you think they will host their championship games? The Pac-10 basketball tourney is always held in L.A., but there aren't any NFL stadiums in L.A. The championship game needs to be held in a NFL stadium to maximize profits. The Rose Bowl might be a viable option since it would have the most seats for any championship game and does have a decent number of suites, but I still don't think the Pac-10 would want to host it there. The NFL stadiums in California (Qualcomm, Oakland Coliseum, and Candlestick) kind of suck. University of Phoenix Stadium is nice, but not centrally located. Same goes for Qwest Field and Invesco Field. My bet would be for the Cardinals stadium since the staff there is used to big events, such as the Fiesta Bowl and the NCAA Tournament. The Big Ten on the other hand has a plethora of nice NFL stadiums to choose from, all with good reasons for why they should host the championship game. I figure I'll move east to west for this one. Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia is a very nice stadium and would appease the Penn State fans. Also since Philly is close to NYC it would pull in the biggest market in the US. The negative side to the Linc is that it isn't centrally located. Heinz Field in Pittsburgh probably is the least likely of the stadiums that would host the championship game since a Big East school is located there, but Penn State is still the big dog in the state. Cleveland and Cincinnati have modern stadiums and are close to Ohio State, which for the time being will often be in the championship game, but the cities leave a little to be desired in comparison to others. Lucas Oil Stadium is centrally located and is very nice (besides those few obstructed view seats ). It is a dome which, like it or not, be a deciding factor. Soldier Field is new and fairly centrally located. Capacity and weather are a concern though. Minneapolis' H.H.H. Dome definitely isn't in consideration. Same goes for St. Louis' Edward Jones Dome. Detroit's Ford Field would be highly considered since Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, and Wisconsin fans would all be within driving distance of the game. The stadium has hosted the Final Four and annually hosts a bowl game.I believe it will come down to Ford Field and Lucas Oil Stadium, with Lucas Oil Stadium ultimately getting the nod. Also the Big Ten Tournament is usually held in Indianapolis.

Speaking of stadiums and where a Pac 12 Championship would be...I wonder if San Diego could use this as a bargaining chip towards getting a new stadium to keep the Chargers in town. Otherwise...there will be a new stadium in LA and the Chargers will move there.
7/27/2010 10:48:05 AM
let's just bump this one.Texas A&M, according to Rivals site, is to the SEC, done deal (obviously not confirmed yet)and now our Gottfried says he's "hearing" that Florida State may do the same.
8/11/2011 10:37:27 PM
very appropriate bump, kind siranybody know if Gottfried's tweet is some kind of minor infraction we need to self-report, or are the local media guys just giving him shit (or both)?seems like no big deal to tweet about a rumor you heard when it wasnt about a recruit or anything, but some NCAA rules are pretty finicky, some would even say persnickety]
8/11/2011 10:55:17 PM
Clemson in the SEC would be funny...they actually think they are a football power and would get their shit kicked in that league, especially if they keep Dabo.
8/11/2011 11:06:54 PM
actually, they were the only team to outplay auburn last year.

ECU to ACC? Big East more likely, rather go to ACC [Edited on August 12, 2011 at 1:07 AM. Reason : ya]
8/12/2011 1:07:00 AM
Yeah I'd love WVU to join from an athletic standpoint. They might clash with the rest of the ACC academically though. Sometimes I completely forget about academics. Whenever I'm like "Hey why doesn't Boise State just join the PAC" I have to remind myself "Oh yeah it's because it's a crap school"Syracuse or Rutgers might work also if Clemson leaves too. I don't think Clemson will leave though.[Edited on August 12, 2011 at 1:12 AM. Reason : ^ No way in hell. Also Maryland would shit themselves in rage if another NC school joined]
8/12/2011 1:10:58 AM

Hate to see teams leave the ACC but I'd love to kick out BC
8/12/2011 3:54:18 AM
Clemson to the SEC has always made more sense than them being in the ACC. Clemson's biggest rival is South Carolina and they used to have a huge rivalry with Georgia. That could be restored with them moving. And yes they think of themselves as a football school.FSU to SEC is a little more sketch. Yes they are a traditional football power and have rival ties to Florida, but they also have strong ties to Miami. Maybe Miami would join as well? I still say the ACC should trade Clemson for Vandy and pursue Syracuse if they need another team if FSU leaves. WVU should never even be considered. Their academics are laughable.[Edited on August 12, 2011 at 8:20 AM. Reason : op]
8/12/2011 8:20:03 AM
.App State would be fun. I know it will never happen, but then we could have 6 FBS teams in NC! ACC could also pursue UCF.I don't know about academics but athletically they'd probably be a good fit. I also like Vanderbilt.[Edited on August 12, 2011 at 8:30 AM. Reason : .]
8/12/2011 8:27:59 AM
I'd rather see USF than UCF
8/12/2011 8:33:54 AM
ditto.WVU and Syracuse because of their strength in BB AND FOOTBALL ... UConn as a 3rd option, USF as a 4th option.
8/12/2011 8:48:47 AM
8/12/2011 8:55:16 AM
If the sec expands, they're probably going to go after teams in new markets, hence why they want A&M...I doubt FSU or Clemson would be likely choices since they already have a strong presence in those markets w/ Florida and SC.Lilkewise, the ACC would go after a new market too if they had to pick up another team.[Edited on August 12, 2011 at 9:01 AM. ^ clemson lost on a missed FG (chip shot if i recall)
8/12/2011 9:06:23 AM
Florida fans were saying that FSU would never get into the SEC... they seem to think UF would kill it. I don't really know why, but that was their sentiment.
8/12/2011 9:28:39 AM
Wouldn't be surprised if the SEC didn't grab Mizzou, but they're rivals with Kansas and I don't know if they'd grab them, too.Big 12 better hurry up and try to fill in with Houston or SMU or Boise.
8/12/2011 10:06:15 AM
missouri just seems crazy to me. I saw winter's bone and yes, they have meth problems in that state, but that's the only way the line up with the SEC schools
