Greinke started pretty hot last year but not this goodI'm sure people have started seasons with that many wins, just not that insane ERA[Edited on June 6, 2010 at 11:20 PM. Reason : fuck no Win for Franklin, looks like I'll have to settle for a 9-4 win this week]

Greinke was 8-2 with a 1.72 ERA last year after 12 starts...started off 6-0 with a 0.40 ERA!]

Anyone else watching the draft tonight?I'm hoping the Mets are able to grab Zack Cox from Arkansas. Very much hoping they don't draft Harvey from UNC or the O'Connor kid who would be a "safe" reach and not overslot...
6/7/2010 11:24:15 AM
They've been terrible all year, so he is flying under the radar.... but Carlos Silva is now 8-0 with a 2.93 era for the Cubbies.

6/7/2010 7:55:00 PM
^ you didn't see it anywhere near where he was drafted
6/7/2010 7:56:10 PM
I think I saw him going 17 to the RaysI just remember being like "oh shit Delino DeShields has a kid"
6/7/2010 7:58:47 PM
This is a weak class and the MLB draft is always a crapshootNot a big deal to take a guy earlier in the same round that he was slotted
6/7/2010 8:00:01 PM
^ well considering their farm system is in shambles, the fact that ed wade is an incompetent GM, and the fact that the kid was slotted to either go mid-late first round or later, i think it was a dumb first pick.
6/7/2010 8:06:24 PM
I don't disagree with any of those pointsI just don't get all Jets fan bent out of shape over MLB draft picks

It's D-Day for Strasburg. Pumped to see him throw tonight -- actually canceling plans to watch it.
6/8/2010 9:14:05 AM
mike stanton could go 4/4 with 4 homers tonight, and his debut will still be overshadowed by strasburg
6/8/2010 9:59:19 AM
As a Braves fan, I'm kind of torn on what I want out of Strasburg. Overpowering pitchers are always fun to watch, but the East is already a close enough race as is. Then again, I figure it's Washington, how much better can they be with the addition of one pitcher. It's funny to think, though, that as a member of the Nationals, tonight may be the biggest stage he ever pitches on.
6/8/2010 11:08:58 AM
http://espn.go.com/mlb/notebook/_/page/bbtn100607/baseball-tonight-clubhousethis article is absolutely retarded and is one of the many reasons why i stopped reading/watching anything about baseball that comes from ESPN. so far the people at MLB network have proven themselves to be slightly less stupid and annoying, but we'll see how long that lasts.
6/8/2010 11:43:54 AM
^Do you disagree regarding the NL East's potential?
6/8/2010 11:46:41 AM
I kind of hope Strasburg sucks ass seeing that the Braves will be facing him 4-5 times a year. Plus with Nationals starting to build a strong nucleus, they could be legit in a 2-3 years if Strasburg delivers as expected.
6/8/2010 11:56:29 AM
I don't see anything wrong with that ESPN article other than it's sort of a boring fluff pieceAnd MLBN is killing ESPN[Edited on June 8, 2010 at 12:10 PM. Reason : ]

well after going back and looking over the way they ranked the teams, it was actually based mostly on the team's ability to win now, win in the future, and the health of the organization overall, so i guess it's not just an evaluation of the current state of the farm system. still, the teams at the top wouldn't be there if they weren't strong in that respect. here's how it turned out:#1 – New York Yankees#2 – Boston Red Sox#3 – Tampa Bay Rays#4 – Texas Rangers#5 – Minnesota Twins#6 – Seattle Mariners#7 – Colorado Rockies#8 – Atlanta Braves#9 – Philadelphia Phillies#10 – St. Louis Cardinals#11 – Anaheim Angels#12 – Milwaukee Brewers#13 – Cleveland Indians#14 – Los Angeles Dodgers#15 – New York Mets#16 – Arizona Diamondbacks#17 – Baltimore Orioles#18 – Chicago Cubs#19 – Oakland Athletics#20 – Cincinnati Reds#21 – Detroit Tigers#22 – Florida Marlins#23 – San Francisco Giants#24 – Chicago White Sox#25 – Pittsburgh Pirates#26 – Toronto Blue Jays#27 – San Diego Padres#28 – Washington Nationals#29 – Kansas City Royals#30 – Houston Astrosthe blue jays were lower than i remembered. the writer did acknowledge the fact that the jays and the o's would both be ranked higher if they were in different divisions, but i guess he's just trying to be as objective as possible. here's the link if anyone cares to read in more detailhttp://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/organizational-rankings-recap/

Never mind the fact that the Miami metro area is twice the size of the Pittsburgh metro area and that the Marlins are actually going to be competitive when their park opens.

during one of the Braves' games the commentators were talking about how its so hot in the summer people dont want to sit through that shit. i guess the new one has a retractable roof for that purpose.
6/8/2010 3:56:33 PM
^ that doesn't explain shitty attendance at night games. and if you pay close attention to a lot of announcers during games, you'll find yourself saying, "wait....what?" somewhat frequently. [Edited on June 8, 2010 at 4:28 PM. Reason : announcers]
