How Green Was My Valley won best picture over The Maltese Falcon AND Citizen Kane in 1941, your screenwriter friend should have known better. If you're asking yourself what the hell is "How Green Was My Valley" the answer is exactly.[Edited on March 8, 2010 at 12:12 AM. Reason : .]
3/8/2010 12:10:01 AM
but is should be noted that Catherine Bigalo won and did her speech infront of Cameron whom she used to have a relationship withmust be so satisfying for her
3/8/2010 12:10:27 AM
^^ That was to make up for The Grapes of Wrath.Plus, Welles wasn't a film guy, they'd never give him an award for being better than all of them at their own game. ]
3/8/2010 12:11:57 AM
He's James Cameron, why would he give a shit
3/8/2010 12:12:57 AM
^^That still doesn't account for the magnificence of The Maltese Falcon, even with the whole Grapes of Wrath sympathy vote it still should have won[Edited on March 8, 2010 at 12:17 AM. Reason : .]
3/8/2010 12:14:43 AM
^^agreed, in the end he'll make $100,000,000 more than her this year[Edited on March 8, 2010 at 12:15 AM. Reason : -]

The early favorite for best picture in 2010 has to be Inception
3/8/2010 12:23:57 AM
shutter island was shuttered out this year, thats BS
3/8/2010 12:25:17 AM

^hahaOn a separate note, it's a shame that The Hurt Locker has only grossed $12.7 mil...I'm glad I supported that movie.[Edited on March 8, 2010 at 12:42 AM. Reason : .]

^it's already out on DVD...It arrived in my mailbox via Netflix the day after it came outmy DVR cut off b/c it went over, so I missed the best actor, best actress, director and best picture. I'm glad Jeff Bridges and The Hurt Locker won. I never saw The Blind Side, so I have no opinion on Sandra Bullock except her dress was fucking fabulous.Oh and Legion of Extraordinary Dancers rocks my socks.[Edited on March 8, 2010 at 8:59 AM. I kind of feel like this win is just a token gift to small filmmakers, feminism, and screenplay writers. I watched Hurt Locker after the oscar nominees had been announced. It was a great screenplay, and the directing was good, but nothing particularly new or different: a forgettable film that won't have an ounce of impact on the film industry, beyond notation for first female Best Picture/Director.
3/8/2010 9:41:55 AM
this is the second year they've done the panel of collegues giving small praise in behalf of the best lead actor candidates and I really think it's one of the best parts of the show.
3/8/2010 9:50:30 AM
^ i didn't stay up to watch it this year, but i remember really liking that from last year
3/8/2010 9:51:34 AM
^^i totally agree. Tim Robbin's intro for Morgan Freeman was hilarious. "Ted, get me a coffee. It's Ted, right?" And Colin Ferrell's intro for whoever that guy was, that was also hilarious. "We slept in the same bed. Don't worry, no funny business happened, we were just spooning."]
