Manning without question hurt his legacy IMO and all this greatest QB ever talk needs to hit the back burner for a while. The guy threw a pick 6 to literally lose the Super Bowl for his team.If that was Brees that threw the pick to end it fans and the media would be killing him right now and word "choke" would be all over the place. Yet, because it is Peyton, people aren't saying it.It's hard to put it any other way. His team was favored, they had the lead at half, and he couldn't get the job done in the 2nd half.Credit Gregg Williams as well though. He laid out a great plan for how to beat Peyton. They didn't get those "remember me" hits, but the line did an outstanding job of clogging the middle and flushing Peyton out instead of allowing him to step up in the pocket and deliver the football. He still made a couple good throws on the run (that Clark throw comes to mind) but, you could tell that it affects Manning's rhythm when he has to move his feet and extend the play.

i heard it was not manning's fault, reggie wayne was supposed to step inside and block out the defender but just stood therein that type of a route the wr has to do their job or its a pick
2/8/2010 11:24:07 AM
I also heard this but I'm not buying it1) Porter talked about the play afterwards and he said as soon as Collie went in motion that he knew exactly what play was coming. He also mentioned they had been using that exact play to convert on 3rd down this entire season and whoever was in was in the slot ran that same route every time.2) Porter got a great break on the ball. He really jumped that route and was almost headed back the other way as Reggie Wayne was just coming out of his break. There was no way he would be able to stop Porter on that play. It's Manning's fault because he decided exactly where he was going with the ball before the snap and then threw it there without actually reading the defense during the play. How great was Tracy Porter's playoffs? Pick off Favre to send it into overtime and get in the win in the NFC championship game and then pick Peyton and make a house call to win the Super Bowlgg Porter

warner, favre, manning. they should all retire. fucking exposed. all of them.
2/8/2010 11:46:19 AM
Wow, you really are a retard if you think Manning should retire. How does one pick make him not a great QB? Not to mention he is only 33.
2/8/2010 1:13:11 PM
nc state should retire by that tard's logic
2/8/2010 1:18:54 PM

Reggie Wayne played like shit all game
2/8/2010 1:24:09 PM
^definitelyManning doesn't make many mistakes. Unfortunately, he did last night. That play was a combo of bad decision by the QB, terrible play by the WR, and excellent play by the defender.

What another amazing Super Bowl. Whatever the NFL is doing, they are doing it right (I think the salary cap is a big part of things but not everything.) So many great, close championship games in the last decade or so as compared to before when almost every game seemed like a blowout. I really wish that other sports would structure themselves like the NFL does.

Reggie Wayne is more to blame than Peyton. He dropped a TD and didn't cut in on that INT.Don't hate on Peyton.

tmmercer wins this page. That picture is funny.

packboozie: Have you seen a replay of that play? Collie was wide open (not quite at the sticks, but could have made it) and Garcon would have had to make more of a play. Wayne was the worst option on that play.
2/9/2010 2:52:29 AM
Really, Porter knew exactly what was coming. He was just smarter and better than Manning and Wayne that play. Nothing more.
2/9/2010 10:04:51 AM
^ agreed. i know some of the analysts suggested that wayne was partly at fault on that interception, but i have a hard time seeing how he could have stopped porter from getting the ball on that play. but that's not to say manning "blew the game" or anything like that. i think manning had a good game - not great, but not a bad game by any stretch. he just made one mistake and paid for it. he's definitely not to blame for the loss - no single player is. the saints just out-played (and out-coached) the colts as a team. this really was one of the cleanest, most non-controversial super bowls i can remember seeing. only one turnover, 4 or 5 total penalties, and only one review. would've been over in 2 hours had it not been for the 1,0002314,234234,3425 commercials and 30 minute half-time...
