I'm having way too much fun with this

What pisses me off is all this bullshit talk about loyalty to a school or employer. When a better job comes around, especially your dream job, you owe it to yourself as a man to jump on that shit asap. And it's not like it goes the other way either, most D1 schools do not demonstrate loyaty to their own unless they win big on a consistent level, example: Fulmer. And Mangino paved the way for administrations to axe their winning coaches over minor transgressions because they were too cheap to pay them competitive salaries or wanted a new direction. Even disregarding the notion that you shouldn't look after yourself first and foremost, the fact is Kiffin's integrity was suspect coming into the job and he was a high risk high reward hire, unfortunately for Tennessee it didn't pay off.

1/13/2010 9:04:55 PM
Desmond Howard is defending his move - fuck that
1/13/2010 9:17:43 PM
I defend it. It's his fucking dream job.I'm pretty sure every single one of you would quit this job or any job you might get if your absolute dream job was offered to you. And don't say you wouldn't.Imagine if Philip became a college head coach after the NFL, at say.....Miami.The next year, the NCSU coach quits and NCSU contacts Philip about being the coach for us.You don't think he would leave? You don't think all of us wouldn't be on here defending him?
1/13/2010 9:20:49 PM
I hear your analogy for the most part but not only did Kiffin have ties to USC, but USC is also a better program than Tennessee. Miami with their 5 national titles is a better football program than Miami. But other than that I hear you.]

College athletics can be a nasty business. A kid may sign with a university but he commits because of the coach. And a coach can change jobs as he pleases while a recruit has to pay a penalty by sitting out a year if he decides to transfer. It's tough to say, because you would have chaos with players following coaches to whichever institution they leave for. I feel bad for the student athletes but I don't see how the process can be improved, unless you made an exception for newly signed players like a recruit who is supposed to enroll in the spring.Tennessee should have known that Kiffin didn't fit. I think they loved his bravado and optimism but he's a west coast guy. I feel bad for their decent alums and fans, and for their sake I hope they hire a guy who is committed to their university.
1/13/2010 9:45:24 PM
I wonder if Al Sharpton or Jessie Jackson will somehow try and turn this into a racial issue?
1/13/2010 9:47:22 PM
That dumbass Kevin Blackistone on ATH said today this was why the NCAA needs a Rooney rule since USC didn't hire a minority and hired a coach with no credentials.
1/13/2010 9:49:08 PM
Yeah I saw that shit.Fucking idiot.I mean I can understand kinda where he is coming from, but still.
1/13/2010 9:51:02 PM
^^well tenn isn't even considering a black interview so it probably will...[Edited on January 13, 2010 at 9:52 PM. Reason : was brought up on memphis st this morning]
1/13/2010 9:52:10 PM
Some really bold feelers are going out for people as big as Herm Edwards... so they are "considering" some.....
1/13/2010 9:54:34 PM
^^Kippy Brown, the interim head coach, is African-American. He is going to go through the interview process like everyone else.[Edited on January 13, 2010 at 9:56 PM. Reason : ^^]

The Rooney Rule is the biggest sack of shit there is.Its 99% pointless and just wastes peoples time.Like the guy who had to go interview for the Seahawks job that had 0 chance of getting it.I understand the Rooney Rule when you are unsure of who you want to coach your team and you have to conduct a search, but its stupid when you want a certain guy.Like if Fox gets fired and Bill Cowher wants to coach the Panthers, they would still have to interview a minority even though he has no chance in hell of getting the job.I can only imagine how degrading it is to interview for a job you know you wont get.
1/13/2010 9:57:07 PM
^no shit, i was responding to the blackistone quotethe pt is seattle hired someone unqualified with the rule in place
1/13/2010 10:23:20 PM
Wait, you think Pete Carroll is "unqualified" to be a coach in the NFL?
1/13/2010 10:24:41 PM
More like:Amirite?
1/13/2010 10:26:42 PM
^^considering how bad he was at it the first time around, yes.you think being a good college coach automatically qualifies you as an nfl coach?steve spurrier will tell you diff
1/13/2010 10:32:51 PM
33-31Why does everyone think he was a fucking bum
1/13/2010 10:34:06 PM
b/c the pats were in the super bowl 3 months before he started and 15 months after he was fired and he could barely go .500. plus every pats fan in the country will tell you he is a bumbut i'm hijacking this thread so i'm gonna drop it[Edited on January 13, 2010 at 10:38 PM. Reason : btw, i did not know that carroll came through NC State. interesting.]
1/13/2010 10:38:11 PM
And Tomlin won the Super Bowl last year, and this year missed the playoffs.Whats your point?
1/13/2010 10:41:44 PM
oh i didnt know carroll won a super bowl. my b.i said i was gonna drop it, but really, if a coach that has already been fired by two nfl teams is your first choice as head coach, you arent trying very hard.
1/13/2010 10:44:38 PM
Well by your logic, the team was great last year, so they should be great this year.
1/13/2010 10:46:05 PM
perfect representation of what my eyes did
1/14/2010 2:56:51 AM
They should simply make it the rule where as a coach if you leave a school you have to sit out a year before coaching at another NCAA school. Problem solved, make coaches pay the same penalty as athletes have to.
1/14/2010 9:17:01 AM
I much prefer the converse of that, waiving the transfer rule for players who's coach leaves them
1/14/2010 9:21:10 AM
well fuckmissed that then carry on[Edited on January 14, 2010 at 9:27 AM. Reason : shit]
1/14/2010 9:22:18 AM

apparently Norm Chow and Lane Kiffin do not get along and Chow was basically like fuck that I'm staying at UCLAhttp://www.latimes.com/sports/nationworld/wire/sns-ap-fbc-ucla-chow,0,2552869.story^hahah whoops I meant Miami is a better program than NC StateI actually edited the post previously because it said USC is a better program than USC lol[Edited on January 14, 2010 at 4:28 PM. Cutcliffe.
1/14/2010 4:49:03 PM
Duke's SID is still denying it but I too have heard its going to happen
1/14/2010 4:49:47 PM
poor Duke, they get their first good coach since Spurrier and he's already gone
1/14/2010 4:59:27 PM
Good move for Cut, 5 wins was probably their ceiling.
1/14/2010 5:02:43 PM
Good move by UT....he WANTS to be at Tennessee. Probably his dream job. Finally they can get back to recruiting. Hopefully Cutcliffe can keep some on board.
