12/24/2009 1:20:48 PM
Not just that...they just got almost 10 inches in areas of northeast texas.

we got some wicked snow in this area in January of 2000. perhaps that's what he's remembering.
12/28/2009 2:37:05 PM
"wicked snow" is an understatement.
12/28/2009 3:30:47 PM
The 2000 snow was close to 20 inches in Raleigh. My family had just moved a week prior to Coral Springs Florida, so we missed it all. We got a pretty good snow in 2004 too, the day after Christmas. 6-9 inches from Raleigh and East. My Dad wrecked my 4Runner during that event.
12/28/2009 4:04:42 PM
That was my senior year in high school so since they had already rented the time at the civic center they kept our graduation on time while all of the other kiddies had to stay the extra two weeks to make up the snow days! I also recommend skydiving after a decent snow event on an overcast day. Sure, it was cold as hell but oh wow was it beautiful!
12/29/2009 1:50:16 AM
^haha same story with me! were you in Wake County? it was so nice graduating on time while everyone else had to go to school

Yup I was a Junior in high school during the Carolina Crusher (Jan 2000). Good times! Had about 10 school days out of classes.[Edited on December 29, 2009 at 6:23 PM. Reason : jr]

just got back from the ohio/wv border near PA. saw plenty of snow on the way there and back... 3 inches fell while i was there and it was COLD COLD COLD this morning when i left at 9AM. amazingly, all the roads up there get plowed and salted really quickly... lots different than snow down here.
12/29/2009 6:45:28 PM
Perhaps because we get snow once every never?
12/30/2009 12:25:43 AM
^^I marvel at that too. I'm in chicago right now. The roads are clear, and almost completely dry...but there's a foot of fresh snow elsewhere. I'm like
12/30/2009 12:30:06 AM
Yeah not worth the money to buy all those plows for the chance of getting snow once the whole season. Some seasons we go without a trace.
12/30/2009 1:48:48 AM
have argentina put their plows ona cargo ship and send them here in november.
12/30/2009 1:52:20 AM
I think it helps that the locals in the North who have trucks also slap a snowplow right on the front.
12/30/2009 9:16:38 AM
lol, what's so amazing about it people? We live in the 21st century; you'd think that after putting men on the moon we'd know how to handle frozen water falling from the sky. It's just a matter of is it cost effective to have equipment to deal with it quickly.

our office meteorologist says a "trace" at best because the system is coming from the mountains, and the mountains will likely take away most of the moisture and our snow chances.whatever that means ]
1/7/2010 9:18:20 AM
Looks like the DOT was just looking for an excuse to burn our money and spray salt everywhere and get our cars dirty.

So what are the odds that I will be able to fly through Newark and DC on my way to Raleigh on Sunday without any weather delays?
1/7/2010 10:18:53 AM
no weather events forecasted for Newark, NJ for Sunday. it's just gonna be bitchin cold, in the low 20's for highs.

I'm pretty sure everyone in this thread is aware that salt is all kinds of bad for cars, since its corrosive. If you maintain a nice protective coating of wax on your paint salt should notbe much of a concern.I grew up in the Northeast, I've seen my fair share of rusted out shitboxes.[Edited on January 7, 2010 at 12:09 PM.
