Yeah aluminum 4 banger vs cast iron inline in a sub 1ton car it's a no brainer. The formula ford motors are popular in them too.S2000 engine would be fun

Mists engine is iron block, but it's small, dirt cheap, tough, and. Has a good aftermarket and takes well to boost.Yeah, the s2k engine would be fantastic.
8/2/2011 10:16:41 AM
i guess its the new 2.0 that's aluminum isn't it. i wish subie had a closed deck iron block lol....

actually its not it just had a different mission then your high winding honduhs.change up its mission statement with some cams and a bigger turbo and its a pretty decent motor.. albeit with ever failing ignition coils. but still with a chip and a turbo back they probably keep up with your much more expensive s2000 pretty well even if you put a chip and a header back on the s2000. I was baffled when my buddies dynoed more HP and Torque then my 4.0 liter jeep engine. but seriously though... their turbo doesn't fit much more than my thumb in the inlet[Edited on August 3, 2011 at 8:25 AM. I built a garbage 1.6L SOHC in my garage that made 260fltbs at 3000RPMS (17psi indicated on some free boost gauge) and i drove it for 10k miles as a toy look its fast and does highway burnouts!!!1It got >40mpg highway in vacuum as well.Again sorry to derail this thread but that engine is a complete and utter POS and anyone who says otherwise is in complete denial.[Edited on August 3, 2011 at 8:07 PM. I was willing to go $10k, and I think that was his reserve. There was nobody else bidding on it--I thought I might be able to snag that one for a steal.

that sucks dude.

http://fast-cash-for-cars.ebizautos.com/detail-2007-brunton-super_stalker-supercharged-used-7178526.htmlPricey, but man that would be a blast if you made it street legal.
8/5/2011 1:28:48 PM
It seems like there are better choices for a Super 7 replica (or any other 1300lbs "car") than an anemic American v6 with a supercharger mated to a solid axle. Something that revs high and has lots of horsepower but relatively little torque, so you can accelerate instead of do burnouts.
8/5/2011 1:40:25 PM
i agree that seems like a half assed car for a lot of money.wheels are cheap, engine is cheap, transmission is cheap axle is cheap, no fancy gauges just bare minimum, no radio, nothing...where does this asshat get off asking 23k for that?[Edited on August 5, 2011 at 1:45 PM. Reason : .]
8/5/2011 1:43:26 PM
cheap or expensive, your stuff is gonna break with track use. why not have something cheap to maintain?if i were buildin that car I'd use a camry or accord v6 or some other aluminum, open deck, ubiquitous, ~200+hp motor. i'd much rather be able to drive my car 99/100 weekends than have a slightly more fun car that's on jackstands 40/100 weekends[Edited on August 5, 2011 at 2:02 PM. Reason : but hey, some people like fuckin with stuff in the garage rather than stuff on the track]
8/5/2011 1:58:52 PM
i'm not saying the car is a bad setup but for a 90s buick/pontiac engine and a 90s mustang transmission and rear end... i don't see where 23k comes from a used 14k kit and 3k in misc 90s auto parts?
8/5/2011 2:26:39 PM
Well, Brunton sells kit-builds and turnkey cars. It isn't a "Locost" type build cobbled together out of tubing and sheetmetal from scratch in someone's garage. Check out http://www.usa7s.com and you'll see that the cars from actual companies all go for stupid amounts of money (for what a Seven amounts to). They do no represent a lot of car for the money, in my opinion...it's more just that they're the only game in town for that sort of car. We don't really have a market for track-day specials in America like they do in Europe...the only real cars that are competition are things like the Ariel Atom, which is even MORE expensive.A lot of the Locost builds have really piss-poor fit and finish. Some of them are probably fast as shit around a racetrack, but they look like total garbage (and I wouldn't trust some of them to haul my soft, pink body around a racetrack at >100 mph).A well-executed Locost build like the red one I was bidding on eBay can represent pretty decent bang for the buck, I think, by racecar standards. If you look at http://locostusa.com/forums/, I think that even his $12k price wasn't bad, relative to the going rate for stuff like that. It's still a good bit of money for what it is in my opinion, though. I would have given him $10k, though, just because I know I'd be able to sell it for more than that without any problem if I decided I wanted to get out of it, assuming that I didn't ball or bend it up first.

Well, I'm trying to score a Rotus (kit-build Seven clone) powered by a thoroughly worked-over aluminum Buick V8.I might just suck it up and daily drive something that I loathe in principle: a luxury SUV/crossover. Something like an X5, or Mercedes ML, or Cayenne, or Touareg. "Luxury" and "SUV" don't go together; crossovers are fundamentally stupid. I've always said that if you want a truck, get a truck. If you want a car, don't get a really tall one that isn't as good at being a car. That said, nobody seems to make good sedans or wagons that can tow a 5-6k lb boat, and I'm trying to avoid having 4 cars and 3 motorcycles and 2 jet skis and 1 boat and maybe an airplane and godonlyknows what else might follow me home. That's better left to BigBlueRam.
10/10/2011 12:43:16 PM
^ if you go the SUV route have you considered the MDX? They handle really well with a sport package (for what it is), have great tech, and last forever.]
10/10/2011 4:32:38 PM
i doubt i'd be happy with how a luxury suv/crossover would tow a 5-6k lb boat
10/10/2011 4:40:00 PM
I want something like a 20-24' deep-vee speedboat, at most (like a 22' Velocity or Donzi, etc). I might even just get something like an 18' center console. I would imagine it'll be 5k or less, even with trailer. 6k would prob be the absolute upper end....and yeah, if I was going to haul a 6k trailer routinely for significant distances, I'd keep my Ram 2500 HD as a dedicated tow rig...but I think something like one of these, while going against all that I stand for, would do just fine for 10 minute trips to the bay or 45 minute trips to the other side of town so I could put it in near Pensacola Beach or the intracoastal.
10/10/2011 5:28:21 PM
why don't you just get a something like a 4runner? it probably can tow that much.
10/10/2011 7:54:12 PM
I might. German vehicles--especially BMW and Porsche, but pretty much across the board--give me a boner, though....and an X5, for example, ridiculous vehicle that it is, would be a better on-road daily driver than would be a 4Runner.Of course, I could always get something like a 135i or 335i as a DD, and then have a cheap truck to tow a boat or the Seven...but then that's three cars to store, insure, maintain, etc...and if I bought an old CJ or something, that would be 4. The point would be to streamline and not have a used-car lot's worth of stuff in my garage and driveway.
10/10/2011 9:09:43 PM
Man just make a decision on what you want and do it
10/10/2011 9:40:00 PM
