So, I have been watching the game elsewhere

But did anyone else see the 2 HUGE and OBVIOUS blocks in the back by the stillers during that INT return?

No one will believe me except the people that were at the SB party I attended.. BUT

At the end of the first half we were discussing what the Cardinals would do.... Throw into the endzone and if you dont make it, kick the FG/etc.

I said.. Warner will throw an INT that will be returned for 100 yard TD.

OH SHIT! Warner threw a TD... OH SHIT.. He's running it back.. OH SHIT! He ran it back for a 100 yard TD.

yes.

when MY WIFE is bitching about the refs not calling it, you know it's blatant.

Seriously, how could they not review that last play? An overturn would have give the Cards the ball around the 25 for one last play.

fumble?

I hate how Roflsburger gets all the credit when Warner outplayed him badly.

He now has 2 rings, Eli has 1, and Phil has 0 and Phil is better than both.

I was too busy wondering why the Cardinals players looked like they were only remotely interested in tackling the guy. It's like they had already made up their minds that he wasn't going to make it all the way, so they all just half-pursued him. Sure, it wasn't the reality of the situation, but it felt like it.

Quote :
"his arm was going forward, therefore = incomplete."

Seems like that exact same situation has happened two or three times this season and it was ruled incomplete in every other situation. I even remember one of the other situations being brought up in a thread here. I'll have to look for it.

EDIT: My bad it was over the tuck rule in the regular season game between the Cowboys and the Cardinals. One of the worst officiated games I've seen, despite the 'right' call because of the bogus rule.

It looked like (remembering from last night) he started before contact, got knocked in the middle of the throw but still tried to push something out to get the incomplete pass call.

A Super Bowl that had become that exciting shouldn't have ended someone taking a knee to run out the clock, but I was just a 1-day Cards fan so it doesn't bother me that much.

Also, the refs sucked, but we knew this ref team wasn't going to be very good going into the game. It seems like they tried to make up for missing things by over calling penalties and they STILL couldn't get it right.

they were on about the 45 yard line with 5 seconds.

granted they have a premier player in a jump ball situation but it wouldnt have mattered. the steelers were rushing three when the "fumble" occured. if you cant block 3 people with 5 you deserve to lose.

Cardinal #2 with long hair was already in a dive at Harrison's legs. Nobody is going to call that a block in the back (it wasn't). Fitz ran the entire way down the field OUT OF BOUNDS and made the tackle.

What view did you see all the "blocks in the back" from?

i mean i guess everyone is in on it, because not one person made mention of there being even the slightest bit of controversy with warner's fumble. madden and michaels made it sound like it was the most obvious call in the world, and the talking heads after the game didn't mention it either.

i gotta think with one last play on the 30 yard line with the best receiver in the game right now, there's at least a realistic shot of a TD

Why would they review the last play? Lots of fumbles fly out of a player's hand in a perfect spiral going forward as he's trying to throw the ball. Nothing to see here

Arizona's O-line lost that game for them. Even on the last play, the RT had a clean shot on Keisel to keep him off Warner at the end of the play and instead he just tags the guy like he's Martin Gramattica. And don't get me started on the LT that couldn't stop James Harrison to save his life...

that was totally a fumble.

goddamn, i've seen nothing but people bitching about officiating all morning. but none of them mention that on Fitzgerald's first TD, the nose of the ball hits the ground as he makes the catch.

[Edited on February 2, 2009 at 12:43 PM. Reason : no conspiracies, mo fuckas. just some entertaining footballs.]

it was not "totally" a fumble. the problem is that the refs spend all season reviewing plays that can easily be seen with the naked eye in real time, but in the biggest game of the year, they just let it end? makes not one bit of sense to me

sure it may've been ruled a fumble, but at least take a closer fucking look at it. i'm not even a cards fan, so i'd say the same thing if it had happened to the steelers

you have to have control of the ball when your arm is going forward....

and if so, you have 5 seconds to throw up a hail mary, 99% of the time nothing happens so whatever

i'm surprised tomlin didnt challenge the first td by fitzgerald, the tip of the ball hit the grass before he did

yeah it was definitely a fumble.

Contrast that play with the one earlier in the game that was overturned and ruled incomplete.

I was hoping it would go to OT and the team that won the coin toss would march down and kick an FG to win right away

maybe then there would finally be a movement the change the OT rules

Great...

got to ESPN and all the douches talking about how great the Steelers are and bullshit about being best team ever....

so classy Pittsburgh; lets see how many fights we can start even as your team is winning the game. I suppose had Cardinals won James Harrison would have called one of his homies to put a cap in Fitzgerald's ass. He proved his street cred on national TV last night.

Overall the officiating was horrible and the announcers were blatantly biased (looking at you John Madden)

as i said in the bandwagon thread

it's not just ESPN

Peter King @ SI: "I think it's the best Super Bowl ever."
I've thought for a couple of years now that King has gone to shit with his MMQB and other NFL musings...this just confirms it

I don't get the "greatest Super Bowl" talk either. Aside from the 100 yd INT return, the game was boring until the Cards started their comeback in the 4th. One of the better endings, I guess... but I think Patriots-Rams and Patriots-Giants were better endings, and Patriots-Panthers was a better overall game.

Both the Giants and the Panthers could have beaten the Steelers. This is why I like playoff series better (MLB, NHL, NBA)...the best team wins more often than not.
