merry christmasand god bless each and every one of us...and jaybee as well

In English the term Polack is considered to be a racial slur. I assume since you are preaching to me about America that you speak English (and also by the fact you are writing it). Granted it is usually considered fairly minor but some people do take offense to it.The anthem is not that important to me. It is that important to you. The difference between us is I am not asking you to change your actions based on my beliefs. You are.
12/25/2008 2:04:59 PM
^ hasnt always... for most of history it has been acceptable. So say you had a close family member who died, and for some reason I came to the funeral, during the middle of it I start singing "I love to sing-a, about the moon-a and the June-a and the spring-a, I love to sing-a, about a sky of blue-a, or a tea for two-a." You would just be like "oh that wacky Jaybee1200 and his different view on respecting something, hes SO crazy!"?[Edited on December 25, 2008 at 4:43 PM. Reason : d]

people will whine about anything and everythingi will continue to yell RED and WOLFPACK whether you do or not so deal with it. If you dont like it then dont participatepeople do much worse and more disrespectful things all the time that everyone else lets slide.
12/25/2008 5:00:35 PM
ah i see... as long as I find someone doing something worse than I am then its excused. Sweet, I can do all sorts of shit now with no guilty conscience

I respect my cock. I want you all to be silent while I beat off. It only takes a minute and a half. I don't see the big deal.Take your hat off also.[Edited on December 25, 2008 at 5:37 PM. Reason : Thanks.]

I personally do not have a problem with the RED glare, but I do agree that the home of the WOLFPACK is very lame. I couldn't agree more with Bridget (page 3). State already has the rep of a dumbshit redneck school in the eyes of pretty much every mass local media. The last thing we need is another excuse for some ECU and UNC slurping columnists to spread more of their anti-NCSU propaganda to mass audience. It's hard enough to get some good publicity around here as it is. Lets at least get the National Anthem right before our sports teams n00b all over themselves.
12/26/2008 7:38:24 AM
I love RED, but I never do Wolfpack. Usually because I fucking forget, since I'm lucky to go to one football/basketball game a year. I don't really care too much for the Wolfpack thing either, but RED is great.
12/26/2008 9:47:23 AM
^^ You really didn't get her argument did you. We already had the negative media for it while Duke was able to coast on with their "O" completely ignored. She stated that even if we stopped we wouldn't get a fair shake from the media so who cares. Jaybee And before it was the national anthem it was a British drinking song so it can't be offensive for people to alter it. (for your historical polack reference) Just face it you and I have a different idea of what the anthem stands for and it's relative importance in society. Your ridiculous analogies just go to prove what an inflated status it has in your mind. This thread should have been in the soap box to start with.[Edited on December 26, 2008 at 1:13 PM. Reason : for jaybee]

Yelling wolfpack really just makes no sense to me, and it's fucking retarded. If I was at an ECU or UNC game and heard hooooome of theeeee... PIRATES or TAR HEELS, I would make the biggest /  ever.Just like I do at State games.IT'S FUCKING DUMB, I DON'T CARE IF IT'S YOUR RIGHT. maybe my not liking this coincides with my not caring as much about sports as I have in the past, does being a huge die-hard fan make you think stupid shit like this is cool? No, I thought this was fucking lame as hell back when I lived and breathed sports as well, so that can't be it.[Edited on December 27, 2008 at 2:22 AM. Reason : .]

never has there been a thread where jaybee made as much sense as he is making here

12/27/2008 2:16:32 PM
^ That is your opinion. My opinion has already been stated we don't agree. The difference is I am not asking you to change your actions based on my beliefs of what I think is respectful and important.
12/27/2008 2:23:41 PM
sure you would, if it was something you thought was important. Like the funeral example I stated earlier:So say you had a close family member who died, and for some reason I came to the funeral, during the middle of it I start singing "I love to sing-a, about the moon-a and the June-a and the spring-a, I love to sing-a, about a sky of blue-a, or a tea for two-a." You would just be like "oh that wacky Jaybee1200 and his different view on respecting something, hes SO crazy but I wont ask him to stop because that would be wrong of me to oppress his free speech rights"and dont lie, you KNOW you wouldnt do that. So its not a question of if you would do something or not if you didnt like it, its just a question of it being something that you dont think is important enough to care about... and in my mind having the common courtesy to give someone else a minute of silence even if I dont really care about it is worth more than just trying to prove that "grrrr I am an individual, you wont fence me in dammit!!! "but, I am willing to let this thread die because its not getting anywhere and I am tired of saying the same shit over and over[Edited on December 27, 2008 at 2:33 PM. Reason : d]

an idiotic analogy doesn't become any less idiotic the second time you use it. Why are people gathered at the funeral? To mourn and pay respect. Why are people at a game. To watch and cheer for their team.
12/27/2008 3:10:17 PM
RED
12/27/2008 3:17:18 PM
for the sake of argument: maybe some of us don't like the militaristic/jingoistic aspects of american society these days that is idealized in the national anthem.
12/27/2008 3:20:14 PM
I haven't posted in this thread yet but I do not yell Red or Wolfpack. I have been unsure about it, but the more I think about it, the more I don't like it.The national anthem is a different part from the game and should be treated as so.
12/27/2008 3:20:33 PM

REDWOLFPACK Brave, motherfuckers. The song says brave, sing brave.
1/18/2009 3:37:13 AM
the national anthem before sporting events is exactly the kind of ridiculous nationalism that lead to facism in europe, it wasn't even our national anthem til 1931. I dont see why you guys are getting so wound up over something that hasnt even been tradition for 100 years.

I'm not really bothered that much out of patriotism, it mainly annoys me out of respect for music in general... don't change the fucking lyrics.[Edited on January 18, 2009 at 7:22 AM. Reason : to clarify... there are only three things that I respect more than music]
1/18/2009 7:14:26 AM
It's stupid this song is sung before games anyways.

This wouldn't be an issue if we had separation of sports and stateNo where in the constitution does it say anything about governing sporting events...
1/18/2009 10:55:27 AM
this wouldnt be an issue if there was no such thing as words
1/18/2009 12:02:23 PM
man this shit had settled down, too.
1/18/2009 3:11:29 PM
i said it once and i'll say it again.....there are way more important things going on in America today to worry about then some fan base changing a couple words in the national anthem. Get over it....

I thought when Hugh Shelton came he would say RED during the anthem. My big problem is that if you are going to be loud during the anthem you should be loud during the entire game. But at the same time, I guess if our team was better we would be louder?
1/19/2009 8:18:51 AM
Its tradition and during my four years at NCSU from '98-'02 we did it at every football/basketball(mens/womens) home games and even away games.....it's a tradition that's ours..it gets our fans worked up and helps get our opponents riled up ...WHY the hell not?? It's a collegiate atmosphere with some of the best fans in the world....it's all about imposing atmosphere..'GET WITH IT..OR DONT FUCKING COME TO THE GAME!!'
1/20/2009 3:12:03 PM
certainly people have the right to do this, if you dont like it dont participate. I do think its dumb and embarrassing when people do this at away games, but this does have its value to make our section heard
1/20/2009 9:01:49 PM
you know what would be more impressive as a "tradition"if more people knew the words to "red & white" except for the GO TO HELL CAROLINA partor if anyone knew ANY of the words to the fight songor hellmaybe if the crowd stuck around for the alma materyeahyelling during the national anthem sure is intimidating to the other team[Edited on January 20, 2009 at 9:16 PM. 1/20/2009 9:14:51 PM
it was pretty hilarious at the Duke game tonight... RED was screamed by a Pack of State fans, which was then followed by Duke's lame "OH".
1/20/2009 11:27:08 PM
how many people that are mad about this even know the rest of the damn song? im guessing zero
