yeah the fact that dole has pretty much been non-existent since she became senator is one big reason why I'm not voting for her, and she's slimy.

If Dole believes there is a god she should probably stop lying to get ahead.

I really don't have time to read this whole thread.

Can someone just tell me in two sentences who to vote for and why?

Vote for Not Dole because:
1) Dole never spends time in North Carolina except when desperate to win back her position of power.
2) Dole is trying to win on religious fear-mongering and promoting of backwards ways of thinking.

Ugh. I voted for Dole back in 2002 in spite of her faux southern accent because she was running against the Most Unappealing Politician on Earth -- bespectacled Clinton-appartchik douchebag Erskine Bowles.

This one's tough. Kay Hagan is a stock N.C. liberal, copping whatever positions she read about in the New York Times last month. She doesn't seem to have Mike Easley's knack for down-home appeal. But she is a real North Carolinian, damn it -- even despite a brief defection to Florida. That has to be worth something.

Six years is a long time to let Dole use the state as a political launching pad. I'd probably vote for Hagan if I still lived in N.C. It just sends the wrong message for the state's Senate seats to be a jumping off point for political careers -- especially after the Edwards fiasco. N.C. gotta represent (literally).

the mere fact that anyone can vote for Dole at this point glaringly showcases that there are "people" in North Carolina who still live in the dark ages.

hell people in Alaska are still voting for Ted Stevens in Masses even after the corruption conviction and scandals. I suppose they have no problem working their asses off in order to pay income taxes that provide Ted Stevens for a upgrade at his mansion.

Yeah I was not excited about either choice, and was probably leaning Hagan beforehand, but this douchebaggery made it very easy to be comfortable with a Hagan vote.

^She earned it, trying fake Hagan's voice & making the election about something that has nothing to do with the election.

This is a future for NC that I wouldn't mind seeing, and that is long overdue.

i hope he doesn't b/c i think perdue for all her flaws is better on education, i have trouble getting behind an anti-gay rights pro-bush republican like mcrory, & i don't want nc's governor to be in political opposition to our new president... but thats about all the detail i'll go into here since this thread isn't really about the gov

A right-wing friend of mine justified her choice of Dole as "Hagan started it first." I don't know who started it, but I rolled my eyes.

I think some hard-core republicans would have voted Hitler as Chancellor in 1932 as long as promised to lower taxes and stop lazy people from getting welfare checks.

i think some hard core republicans are pretty awful & that nc really isn't serving its own best interest to vote for most of them, but i'm ready to move past either party comparing or saying the other side could or does support hitler

i mean i'm all for a demeaning comparison, we just need some more originality

She may have very well earned both that and a boot to the ass with her totally inept campaign. (Seriously, I don't think I've seen a more ham-handed attempt to win votes in my decade of being a registered voter, now.)

It's just unfortunate that her getting the boot to the ass actually means Kay Hagan has to win.

That's some brilliant commentary.

I mean, let's face it, some hard-core republicans would vote Hitler, and some hard-core democrats would vote Stalin, and the hard-core elements of both sides are douchebags. That's how it works. Don't bother talking to the extremists on either side. Talk to reasonable people and wait for the rest to die out.

I heard on the radio that Hagan plans to visit 7 polling sites today. Maybe this is typical, I don't know. I just don't think it's cool. I guess I was under the impression that there was some sort of ban on campaigning at polling sites. If you are running for an office you visit one polling site. The one you vote at.

In the grand scheme of things this is pretty minor though. Just something I was surprised by this morning.

^ Nope that's standard. As long as they're standing in front of the sign that says "No campaigning beyond this point" it's kosher.

Out of curiosity...

is it possible for an incumbent (for example, Dole) be SO bad that their own party ousts them from the next election, essentially saying "You're not going to run on our ticket again, here's the new republican candidate" ?
