can't say i would have expected this w/o Stevethat suspension decision doesn't hurt now, except for fantasy purposes lol[Edited on September 14, 2008 at 4:31 PM. Reason : ]

i think when a team is missing their star player you really see what everyones made of. sometimes you come together more as a team, and i think this is what weve seen. lets hope when we get smitty back that he fits right in with the way shit is going.
9/14/2008 4:43:42 PM
I'm hoping that we keep the system that we've got now and when we've built some momentum, we use SS as a homerun guy, alot like what we did during that superbowl season.
9/14/2008 4:45:47 PM
that suspension might have even worked in our favorimagine the confidence the team will have winning these two games without smittyi'm shocked

As much as I hated the Stewart pick, and then the trade for Otah, it's looking like stroke of genius so far. Those two guys have been huge for us.
9/14/2008 8:13:22 PM
I'm the same way, I was so mad we didn't try to get Mendenhall, but after watching preseason and these first two games i'm convinced that this guy has a promising career.[Edited on September 14, 2008 at 8:34 PM. Reason : .]

Stewart is an absolute beast. He stole DeAngelo William's job in this game as far as I'm concerned.
9/14/2008 8:37:23 PM
stewart matched up better against the bears. i'd leave williams as the starter for now, but get stewart more carries in the first half.
9/14/2008 8:42:15 PM
I bet Williams match up better against the Vikings next week, but I like the current splitting duties setup. As long as we're winning, I don't see any see reason to change it.

It's almost a perfect combo of running backs. Fast and shifty with DeAngelo. Pile-driving with Stewart. We have the luxury of playing whichever back matches up with the other team's defense more effectively. Stewart was the man today because he's a no bullshit, straight-up-the-middle runner. The bears were out-toughing us the whole first half, but Stewart changed that almost by himself. DeAngelo will be great against slower defenses when he can get to the corner. That's not going to happen against the Bears though. Summary: I couldn't be happier with our RB situation.

great game...everybody was wilin walking down the ramps afterwards...bears fans were whoopin and hollerin when they were up 17-3, but they all shut the fuck up when they lost the lead...good times...cant wait to see minnesota's ass crying when they get taken out
9/14/2008 11:03:00 PM
im hoping tavaris jackson tries to run around to Peppers' side so the OL guys don't know where to protect him
9/14/2008 11:08:28 PM
oh he will
9/14/2008 11:09:01 PM
just saw Chris Harris on the news...man he was so happy to beat his former team...we got that dude for a 5th round draft pick...hahaha best in the NFL at forcing fumbles
9/14/2008 11:48:04 PM
I feel like our defense is up there with some of the best in the NFL year in and year out... but we are straight up punishing people this year. Ken Lucas almost had a INT in the 2nd quarter and so did Chris Gamble. In both of the games this year, it seems to me our defense is just physically pounding on the offense until they are completely ineffective. Everyone i've talked to is talking about how tough AP is but after the thumping we put on tomlinson and sproles last week, i'm not too worried.
9/15/2008 1:12:15 AM
I would be. In my opinion, Peterson is MUCH more dangerous than LT. He attacks the line quicker and harder than any back I think I've ever seen. We didn't exactly stuff Matt Forte today, and he's not half the runner AP is. Thankfully, we've got some of the best tacklers in the league (Beason, Harris, Davis, all of our CBs), so we've got a good chance to slow him down.
9/15/2008 1:20:05 AM
the good thing is that we can put 8 men in the box because there's no way Tarvaris Jackson gonna do anything. As long as we don't have many turnovers, I'm feeling confident in beating the Vikings.
9/15/2008 1:23:38 AM
^^ I mean I wasen't attributing it to the individual running back so much as how much we pounded on the O line with the pass rush and the linebackers. There were a few series where LT started to get free because he was adjusting to cut back lanes and such. But without the passing attack of Rivers, the vikings won't be able to take advantage of our pass rush overrunning the play.
9/15/2008 1:48:32 AM
beating the vikings will be no easy task... don't look past them. they lost to two 2-0 teams by less than one possession each time. only lost to the colts by 3.
9/15/2008 6:11:46 AM
^colts don't like half the team they were last year.
9/15/2008 7:13:54 AM
^^Colts are 1-1.We already beat the team that dominated the Colts.
9/15/2008 9:30:49 AM
If the light bulb ever comes on for Jackson, the Vikings will be a very dangerous team. Hopefully that doesn't happen next week. We have a defense that was originally built to stop Mike Vick, and Jackson is just a shittier version of Vick, so we should be able to dominate on defense. On the other hand, we need to start getting to the quarterback more often. It hasn't cost us yet thanks to late game heroics and the fact that Orton is hopeless when throwing more than 15 yards down the field, but it definitely will later on.
9/15/2008 9:36:15 AM
I don't think our pressure is a problem, I think that's why Orton was hopeless throwing it down field. Almost every throw that he needed to sit in the pocket to let people get down field he was hit in the mouth while he threw. Anytime they double team peppers every other play like they were doing, it's going to be tough to get pressure off the end and blindside anyone.
9/15/2008 11:13:09 AM
I also think it's because the Bears were using alot of 3 steps drop, but we were able to generate pressure on Orton. I'm not worried about Peppers, but Brayton seems to be not doing anything.
9/15/2008 11:18:17 AM
normally the panthers would be favored to beat the vikings at home but i'm worried about the game honestly. i think it's a tossup. the vikings will be playing with a lot of motivation to not go 0-3 for the season. That's hard to come back from and make it into the playoffs....they'll be fighting tooth and nail.Let's hope the return of Smith will give us our own boost to counter it.
9/15/2008 12:48:00 PM
Steve Smith's first NFL score of his career was a punt return touchdown on the Vikings]
