7/16/2009 9:01:18 AM
^^auburns don't have conventional plate style clutches. they've got cone clutches integrated into the side gears, and they're preloaded with springs.[Edited on July 16, 2009 at 9:15 AM. Reason : it's probably fine. nice carnage btw, that's worthy of hanging on the garage wall.]
7/16/2009 9:12:50 AM
OK the cone on one of the side gears is kinda chewed up but thats probably why one wheel wouldnt lock all the time. The part number for the richmond gearset thats in there now isnt showing as a valid number

7/16/2009 9:17:54 AM
hmmm, yeah the friction surface does look a little worn on those side gears. not terrible though, i say reuse them. i would definitely stiffen it up some, though. there's a few ways to go about doing that. a new set of "performance" series yellow springs, the stiffer "pro" series springs (purple in color i believe), or reuse the existing springs and toss some shims in between the retainer plates/side gears.[Edited on July 16, 2009 at 10:36 AM. Reason : weren't there some thrust washers on the spider gears? or are they just not pictured?]
7/16/2009 10:33:34 AM
thrust washers huh.... ill have to look
7/17/2009 10:49:10 AM

7/22/2009 10:35:32 AM
So the spider gear thrust washers are there I just didnt see them before, they actually dont look too bad. The cross pin wear is really ugly though.ALSO FYI the ring gear bolts are REVERSE thread

7/28/2009 11:05:35 PM

7/29/2009 4:35:02 AM
going for massive dong of the year award are we?
7/29/2009 3:06:37 PM
wat?
7/29/2009 3:25:36 PM
so how does one set these up? I am used to drop out center sections
7/29/2009 8:21:46 PM
set pinion depth/preload, once that's good, adjust backlash with shims to spec. yo bring the axle to durham and we'll getcha all set up son. I think that axles uses a crush sleeve so that'll be how you set up the preload and whatnot if i recall correctly.
