usually outside sales spots are commission only, you may want to mention that
12/8/2008 8:44:25 AM
That's a good point. I'm inside sales, and I'm salaried. But there is a difference.
12/8/2008 4:03:36 PM
MMMmmm... This is going to be an item of contention for a good while it seems. No call backs on anything besides a job that was posted by a recruiter (and that was just the recruiter, not the company). Not many jobs out there right now either (unless I want to move somewhere far far away, and even then I'm less competitive in those markets cause I have my EIT in NC).
12/18/2008 10:57:38 PM
i dont see why that would be a problem..
12/19/2008 2:12:08 AM
Still applying and making contacts around here. How's everybody else doing?
1/11/2009 12:34:12 AM
i interviewed and made it down to the final 2 just before christmas for a lateral move with a different company with better pay and benefits. haven't heard back if they've made a decision, i don't have high hopes though.
1/11/2009 1:04:35 AM
Yeah... Seems everybody's low on high hopes right now. I picked the wrong time to graduate as a structural engineer who wanted to work in commercial and residential construction. I decided that I'm super fucking happy that NCSU's Civil Engineering program gives you a broad educational base to pull from and that you aren't pigeonholed into one CE career path. Otherwise I'd be 100% up shit creek right now.

I just interviewed for a great position last week. But the interviewer was 35 minutes late, stopped to look at her watch twice and then said she had to leave because Obama was giving a speech on the economy. She also asked me if I lived in Wilmington right after I told her twice that I lived in Raleigh. I don't think I'll hear back from her.
1/14/2009 1:26:10 PM
Sorry to hear that.
1/14/2009 7:01:28 PM
Still applying, I've gone on a few interviews. It sucks because I have the essential experience, but I suck at interviews. They said it would take 2-3 weeks to hear from my last interview (last wednesday). I thought I did ok, but there wasn't one other girl in there besides the receptionist, and I just got the vibe that I didn't belong.I have an interview tomorrow morning (I think)... The guy sent an e-mail apologizing that my resume was misplaced and asked me to come in at 9 on thursday. I replied to confirm the time and place, and he hasn't gotten back with me.I guess I'll just show up.... [Edited on January 14, 2009 at 10:17 PM. Reason : sp]

I had a bad interview experience a few months back. Half the people interviewing me thought I had come in for a different (more experienced) position. They were awfully rude, and I overheard one of them saying that I wasn't good enough. After I overheard them, no one came to see me. I waited 1.5 hours... no hr person, none of the other people who were scheduled to see me, ...It didn't help that I had to skip work, rent a car, got a speeding ticket (in a school zone), all on my way to this interview.
1/15/2009 10:36:16 AM
^Damn that's horrible
1/15/2009 11:25:09 AM
thankfully, this company is apparently newly notorious for having a bad set of employees. Ha!
1/15/2009 11:32:22 AM
I went to several interviews before I got my current engineering joband one company strung me along for two months (and at our last meeting, took me out to lunch!) before telling me that they didn't want mejust stick with it, you'll eventually find a group of people that have enough sense to hire you

Nope
1/15/2009 6:28:56 PM
Last spring I did a bunch of interviews throughout the spring. Went to Charlotte, Florida, had some in Raleigh and I thought several of them went pretty well but kept getting turned down. Then had two more kinda late (end of April). One of em was with a company that I hadn't talked to since the fall career fair and apparently they thought I wanted a different type of position so hadn't called me but thought they would give me a shot for this opening. Anyways, interviewed with several people and have been there since the first day of June.So in short, just keep at it and you'll catch a break eventually.[Edited on January 15, 2009 at 7:41 PM. I had an interview in Ohio with goodyear before Christmas. It went well, but apparently they had to scale back their recruiting numbers and so that thread has ended.Onto the upcoming career fair it is for me
1/15/2009 7:59:17 PM
bump cause I need a jobI have a civil engineering degreebut I can also flip a mean burger
2/3/2009 12:44:48 PM
bttt anyone worked for ABB?
4/16/2009 6:00:25 PM
Glad this came back to the top. I'm looking once again. All I can seem to find is contract.
4/16/2009 6:15:37 PM
yea have been looking just to see what's out there... and the answer is not much. glad i still have a year left to let the economy get a little better.
4/16/2009 6:50:17 PM
You are right, not much. Are you an ME?
4/16/2009 6:51:48 PM
yep. but not graduated yet.
4/16/2009 8:55:39 PM
I'm looking for a maintenance reliability engineering job in northeast GA, but it's not going so well, I got an offer from lockheed martin, but thats too damn far away from where i want to be, and BASF is stringing me along at this point. Job search sites for engineering suck ass.[Edited on April 16, 2009 at 8:57 PM. Reason : currently working at a paper mill in tn, so not desperate, just lookiing for a better salary]
4/16/2009 8:56:19 PM
Man I wish I had mobility right now. Fiancee just got in to grad school at State. Happy for her, but it's making the hunt tough.
4/16/2009 8:59:29 PM
^^there's a coal power plant in cartersville, and a nuclear power plant in near augusta. i don't know if they are hiring, but it may be worth putting on your watch list.[Edited on April 16, 2009 at 9:05 PM. Reason : .]
4/16/2009 9:01:31 PM
I've got mobility but it isn't doing me much good as of yet. There is a real dearth of civil engineering jobs right now.
4/16/2009 9:04:13 PM
^seriously, its tough even getting a call back on the few that are out there.
4/16/2009 9:23:09 PM
I don't know if I've mentioned it in here, but I'm looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer position in the Raleigh area. I'm willing to commute to a certain extent, but I don't want to relocate. I have about 3 years of experience and about ~3000+ hours of Pro/E experience.Any leads/contacts/suggestions are definitely appreciated.
4/16/2009 10:58:27 PM
wow that is a lot of pro/e.
4/17/2009 12:10:17 AM
It's probably an underestimate too.
4/17/2009 12:33:17 AM
Not to be a wet blanket but I've found that our area is ungodly awful for employment right now compared to other states. It's bad everywhere, but once I put relocation on the table I had a lot more opportunities to apply to (I'm basically looking to move to anywhere on the eastern half of the united states plus texas). You've got experience though so I bet you'll find something sooner or later. Entry-level is impossible here right now.
4/18/2009 3:02:12 AM
I had to relocate. It's tough when every job posting seems to requires 7-15 years of experience.
4/18/2009 7:08:37 AM
don't overlook the positions because it says they want more experience. If you have the right stuff with less experience, most places will still look at you. It never hearts to just apply.
4/18/2009 9:09:56 AM
it never hearts, but sometimes it hertz
4/18/2009 1:24:47 PM
^^ of course i assume you mean within reason... not like straight out of college w/ coop could apply for something that needs 15 years of HVAC experience..
4/18/2009 2:56:39 PM
4/18/2009 3:25:05 PM
^^ Yeah, and fresh engineering grads tend not to be able to apply for a position that says "P.E. a must!". That's been most of the jobs out there, so I haven't bothered with trying to apply to those ones.
4/18/2009 5:35:21 PM
I've applied for many jobs requesting 5-10 years of experience even though I only have about 3. It can't hurt to try. I haven't gotten any call backs though. And I realize I'm limiting myself by not being open to relocation, but I have a mortgage and I'm not about to sell my house in this market.[Edited on April 18, 2009 at 6:02 PM. I have a friend at NASA-Goddard who says they are actively seeking/recruiting multiple young engineers with 1-3 years experience in the DC area. She does parts qualification/certification for the Hubble program, but there are other programs available too. I've been working close to 10 years now, so apparently I'm overqualified for this position, but this is worth looking into if you have a little work experience. She was materials science, but MEs and EEs are welcome to apply as well. Unfortunately I don't have any contact information for the positions, if you are interested, I can try to find out where to send a resume, but that's about it.
5/29/2009 8:51:45 PM
