skywalkr, I just wonder how you know it's your MCL and nothing else? I had no pain when I tore my ACL.[Edited on August 30, 2014 at 7:08 AM. Reason : ]

Obviously without going to the doctor I have no clue if that is the actual issue but the place where the pain is located is where the MCL is located so I would say it is a safe assumption. The original injury was over three months ago and I didn't notice it again until a few days ago when I decided to hit the weights hard for legs. If it was more of an impact in my day to day life I would probably want to go to the doctor to be sure but for what it is I would rather try to make it feel better on my own.

Did you ever go to the doctor?

I'll also bump this again to see for the all the people who posted in this thread if they feel they are at 100%? Does anyone regret the surgery they had?

definitely at 100%, and my repaired knee was measured stronger than non-repaired knee after 4 months of therapy. That was 17 years ago, and I have no problems with my knee now.I have had a couple scares (one at a year out playing basketball, and one at 7 years out playing tackle football), but both were likely just scar tissue. I keep an ice pack to ice my knees down after a long run, but I think that is due to aging and not ACL repair.[Edited on March 8, 2017 at 9:30 AM. Reason : for the record, i used patellar tendon instead of cadaver]

Very cool. I feel I'm 100% as well. I don't think I would of been if I used the hamstring graft.^I had the patellar tendon from a cadaver. That's not an or proposition .

Definitely no regrets. Can't tell any difference when I'm skiing, which is what I was most concerned with. From time to time it definitely feels "off" or "different" and I think sometimes that's weather dependent. Also it feels odd sometimes if I'm just standing around (like at a party or something).Surgery was almost 9 years ago for me (patella tendon).

Just scheduled knee surgery for February 15th. Been having knee swelling issues for a while now (when impact sports are involved) and it would appear that I've got cartilage degradation in my left knee, most likely caused by the trauma of tearing my ACL 10 years ago. Basically premature arthritis. The condition isn't painful, but if I ignore it the swelling gets excessive and that is painful. Spent last week skiing out west and it didn't bother me at all, but I want to get this fixed. Better now than when I'm older.Minor procedure, just getting knee scoped. However I cannot put any weight on my left knee for 4 weeks post surgery so that really sucks. Especially since I don't own a car with an automatic transmission.

That sucks! What specifically are they going to do?

My wife has had ACL tear, patella shattered, and two microfracture surgeries on one knee...ACL sprain on the other.I plan on wheeling her to my son's kindergarten graduation in four years.

^lol^^the procedure being performed is just microfractures, to encourage regrowth of cartilage. Discomfort from the surgery is going to be very minimal. Assuming the doctor doesn't roam around too much in my knee, lol. He said if anything else minor was amiss that he'd clean it up (like minor meniscus issue, as an example).Like I mentioned it didn't slow me down skiing, but the swelling got worse with every additional day of skiing. After skiing 3 days I couldn't bend my knee more than 90° without extreme discomfort. I also had to stop playing sand volleyball mid-2017 (was playing 2-3 times a week). In short, if I want to continue doing some physical activities I greatly enjoy, I need to get this done.

Are you using the same doctor?
1/30/2018 7:55:27 PM
Nah, surgeon that did my ACL is up in NYC and I live in Raleigh now. Also I wouldn't be surprised if he's retired. Using the same surgeon that did my shoulder back in 2010.He was good though. My NC doctor has commented several times about how well done my ACL was (based on MRIs, X-rays, etc)[Edited on January 31, 2018 at 4:18 PM. Reason : ]

Had surgery last Thursday. Doctor got into my knee and...surprise! Cartilage is fine! Nothing wrong with it. INSTEAD, he found a torn meniscus root. So he fixed that by anchoring it to my Tibia and now instead of 4 weeks on crutches it'll be 6.I'm upbeat about it, since that type of issue has a better chance of repair than what was originally thought. Pain and discomfort were higher than I thought it would be (initially) but after a few days I barely need any painkillers, and despite my knee still being extremely swollen I have a good deal of flexibility.

^^Isn't he the guy who was into the double bundle surgery for a while?
2/24/2018 7:21:18 PM
Not sure, but he's always been impressed with the condition of my rebuilt ACL. I was actually able to get a great view of my ACL in the video I got for this meniscus repair.
