I just watched the opening 30 seconds of the first one.

Don't bother.

Read the book.

So it backs out on the Comedian's badge, and that's cool, and the then guy starts reading as Rorshach and the delivery is all wrong. If he can't read the most important character in the book correctly (or be directed to do so), there's no point. Pass.

Nah, it's Tom Stechschulte. Apparently he's a veteran audiobook guy, but he's not a good Rorschach.

it is a comic book, how do you know what ANY of the characters sound like? Other than what you have done in your head and there is no way to say whether you are right or wrong.

Jackie Earle Haley as Rorshach could be one of the best casting jobs ever, depending on if he pulls it off

oh damn! he was the child molester in Little Children, who castrated himself at the end of the movie. (i watched it bc i read the book, probably wouldn't have been interested otherwise). damn, that's going to make it really hard for me to like him in this role, or any other role ever. what a creepy bastard.

NEWS FLASH

The Wachovia IMAX theater at the Marbles Kids Museum will not be getting Watchmen...

...because it's rated 'R'.

No R rated movies at a kid's museum. Sorry.

For some reason I can't shake the extremely low expectations I have for this movie.

And yet I want to see it anyway.

Which is probably good, since it could very easily exceed my expectations and make me happy.

Just to let you know, Midnight tickets are already on sale at the Raleigh Grande.

We are working with Capitol Comics and plan to give away a lot of stuff at the midnight show. Also will be giving away stuff at some of the Friday and Saturday night shows.

We will also be giving away a giant "comedian" poster at the midnight. It's something like 5 ft x 3 ft. You might have seen it in the lobby...

plus... $1.50 large drinks at the midnight. Gonna need the caffeine, it is pretty long.

That movie theater carried Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions. I think if Watchmen were an 'event' movie they'd carry it.

in the commercial i saw tonight during lost

it looked like jon was all shocked and aghast when the comedian shot the vietnamese woman

am i wrong to think that is not how the book presented it?

i could be wrong, its been a while since my last read-thru

^ I'm re-reading it right now and I just read that part today

I thought the same thing - "I know you're going to do this but honestly, I don't give two shits" and then doesn't say anything when the Comedian calls him out on it

^^^^well, considering that it's spelled rorshach, you missed a letter.

i had trouble pronouncing it too, but i'd just start the name and let someone else finish it.

I haven't been keeping up with the hype machine and all the random videos, I've always found that stuff pretty silly.

I think it will probably be a fun/maybe good movie if it just tries to be a movie..

I don't think it will do the comic justice. and if it tries to do that too hard, I think it might be a shit movie. I don't see how a comic that is SOOO full of flashbacks and such used in a not very screen-translateable-friendly way can be turned into a "faithful" movie.

hopefully Zacky Zack will prove me wrong.

as I'm reading it again, all I can think about is how hard it would be to do all the flashbacks and there's just no way to coherently include the comic

I mean, it can still be good but no way it can be 100% faithful to the original

i didn't have a whole lot of hope for this movie at first, but the more i see the better it looks to me.

i mean, i don't think it will be 100% faithful to the novel, but i think it's going to be a really good film.

i'm excited!!

I finished reading the book for the first time last night.

I don't see how the movie could possibly end up being anything more than a series of visual nods to the fans. I think it would have been better served as an HBO miniseries or something.

Plan to see it this weekend. If you really wanna prepare, read the comic and then go read Max Weber's theories on the state and legitimate exercising of power. It's pretty much the explanation Watchmen gives.

Initial thoughts:

Jackie Earle Haley rocked everyone's ass.

Matthew Goode was unexpectedly excellent.

Malin Akerman is fucking hot as balls.

More later.
