Its a legit question. Also -asking god for something so trivial is blasphemy.I won't post anymore in this thread.

It's looking more and more like the second surgery fixed him up! I just talked to the vet and he's eating a bit (mostly cat food, oddly enough), even though they removed about 25% of his stomach. They took him off of his nausea meds last night and he's doing fine.I'm going to pick him up tomorrow morning.
2/29/2008 5:39:32 PM
WOOT!
2/29/2008 5:40:12 PM
YAY!!! GO PEYTON!!!I am so glad he's doing better! Don't let him get used to that cat food! It will be a constant battle if you ever get a cat. We have that problem now. But as long as he's eating something right now, that's all that matters. I am SO glad he's ok!
2/29/2008 6:00:21 PM
Don't worry, I won't ever be getting a cat. He picked a good time for this to happen. Selling my condo in a few weeks should cover my vet bills, which have gotten pretty hefty.
2/29/2008 6:04:07 PM
congrats. Im glad to hear you dog is doing well. Im sure both of you cant wait for him to be home.
2/29/2008 6:47:01 PM
just out of curiosity, how much was it to correct the bloat?
2/29/2008 6:56:12 PM
$1800+ for the first surgery (estimate was $1200)$1400+ for ICU care (estimate was $800)$4000+ for second surgery and ICU (estimate was $1800-$2500)Plus me missing work and spending money on meds for him If they had told me "$7200+ and he might make it" at the outset I might have acted differently, but when they broke it down into smaller increments that I could make more easily it was hard to to tell them "Fuck it, put him down. I need that money for rims".But like I said, hopefully when I finish the move and sell the condo I'll make that back and then some. Regardless there are other things that I would have liked to do with the money.
2/29/2008 7:02:33 PM
I also feel like the cost could have been much much less than $4000 if the first surgeon hadn't been such an idiot and refused to touch the stomach.[Edited on February 29, 2008 at 7:03 PM. Reason : .]
2/29/2008 7:03:23 PM
whew that's a tough call though. For me, there is no amount of money that can stand between me and the companionship of a faithful dog. If we'd known anything about bloat ahead of time and took Dawg to the vet, I think I would somehow make that monetary sacrifice.
2/29/2008 7:05:52 PM
i would fucking tell them that. it is THEIR fault you had to pay so much. call john edwards or something
2/29/2008 7:07:01 PM
Yeah, I'm going to bitch out the first doc next week. Should be fun.
2/29/2008 7:15:10 PM
I would also bitch about why the hell the estimates were so fucking wrong. What good is an estimate if they won't honor it?
2/29/2008 7:20:25 PM
you ever get to bring that big ass dog of your home?
3/2/2008 1:20:25 AM
He came home Friday night but I ended up having to take him back at 6 this morning. He was throwing up quite a bit. We're hoping that keeping him on an IV for a bit longer might help him. There are some promising signs, but the nausea is still bothering him. Right now they're giving him meds for that via IV.

3/3/2008 12:02:20 PM
jesus dude, hope he gets better
3/3/2008 12:08:10 PM
all i've read is the first post about bloat and the last few about eating cat food...bil-jac doesn't cause bloat and would be a good choice that's not cat food.i hope he gets better[Edited on March 3, 2008 at 2:13 PM. Reason : ]
3/3/2008 2:12:53 PM
Well, I just brought him home again. He's actually acting like himself, albeit very sedate. He's moving around more than he has in the past and is showing some interest in food. He hasn't vomitted in 3 days, which is a record since his first surgery.Hopefully that was his last vet visit until he gets his staples out next week!
3/4/2008 8:58:41 PM

sweeeeett!
3/4/2008 10:40:16 PM
congrats. You are a good pet owner. Most wouldnt have gone through the expense. I know Peyton and many on this board appreciate what you did.
3/4/2008 10:45:01 PM
He's doing great today. He's alert and moving around a lot more. In fact he won't let me out of his sight. He tried following me into the bathroom a little while ago and he wouldn't let me eat dinner because he insisted on standing next to me and resting his head in my lap. Needless to say, this is one hell of an improvement over the overly sedate and almost lifeless dog that I had last weekend. His appetite isn't completely back yet, but he'll eat out of my hand with little encouragement. It looks like we're finally in the clear.
3/5/2008 10:13:32 PM
yay! i think being home will definitely improve his spirits as well
3/5/2008 10:18:28 PM
Oh yeah, and the first doctor that fucked up surgery on him has been apologizing profusely and trying to cover his ass.
3/5/2008 10:21:22 PM
He needs to be apologizing with a discount! Good! That is sooo good to hear though. Even though Grits is a cat, he ALWAYS lets himself into the bathroom with me. And he sits there and just watches me use the bathroom, he'll rub against my leg a couple times, and then leave.... forgetting how to close the door behind him!
3/5/2008 10:26:49 PM
why the fuck wasn't the door closed to begin with
3/5/2008 10:33:27 PM
which doctor did your first surgery?
3/6/2008 12:59:10 AM
Dr. Conley at Falls Point.
3/6/2008 2:33:10 AM
i was afraid you were gona say that, he isn't a very good vet for more complex issues.
3/6/2008 2:51:07 AM
He's getting better but being a complete baby. He knows that we want him to eat, so he's turning up his nose at everything. The little asshole turned down tater tots from Sonic last night.
3/9/2008 1:21:28 PM
you must love some sonic tater-totsthey know when hes going to be back to normal?
3/9/2008 1:39:11 PM
It will probably be a week or two. He's also really suspicious about pills in food now. He mashes up everything in his mouth, then spits it out and noses through it before he eats it.
3/9/2008 1:42:28 PM
just smash up the pills and mix it in with the food.
3/9/2008 1:51:06 PM
glad to hear he is getting better. It is also good to know that there are good pet owners out there who are willing to pay the cost of taking care of a pet.
3/9/2008 2:50:52 PM
^^ I just mash it up, mix it with water, muzzle Peyton and use a syringe to squirt in in his mouth. He stays pissed at me for about 30 minutes afterwards.
3/9/2008 3:52:30 PM
Peyton went back to the vet tonight to get his staples out. He's pissed at me again for taking him back there, but at least he's acting like himself again. Even though he's been a little asshole lately.
3/11/2008 10:32:09 PM
im glad your dog is ok
3/12/2008 1:56:18 AM
He ended up spending 3 nights at the vet for some bad diarrhea. He's doing great now and eats anything that you put in front of him.I took him by the new house tonight for the first time and he flipped out. Its the perfect yard for him. We're going up to the Hibernian on Glenwood in a bit if anybody wants his autograph.
3/23/2008 8:30:11 PM
lawls
3/23/2008 8:30:47 PM
This dog has gotten more prayers than some small countries.
3/23/2008 8:31:11 PM
Diarrhea again. He's acting like himself, but now he walks to the door and growls at me when he needs to spray the yard.He better get over it soon, prescription dog food is fucking expensive.
4/24/2008 7:30:07 PM
The solution:If you really "loved" your dog- you would not allow it to suffer.
4/25/2008 1:00:38 PM
He's happy, he just has the shits.Fuck off.
4/25/2008 1:03:56 PM
The little kid form old yeller had more balls.
4/25/2008 1:05:02 PM
This is some weak trolling, buddy.
4/25/2008 1:09:15 PM
he officially livin at your place now?
