"Axelay I was looking through your profile and saw your pictures and was wondering to myself where the hell I knew you from. It hit me today but I used to see you at the Crabtree arcade all the time! Old school! I've actually played you on Street Fighter 3 Third Strike machine back when there were lines for who got to play and you used tokens to claim you're next on the arcade cabinet. I also remember playing you when the arcade was dying and the SF3 machine was only one token and facing the entrance. I wasn't good, and I was still a wee boy back then but I remember you were REALLY good. For some reason I remember you playing Hugo? but I could be mistaken?"

Oh yes, I used to play there quite a bit since I used to live right up the road from Crabtree. Several of my friends used to work in the Babbage's there and we'd go have dinner and play at least once a week. A very long time ago, I tried to organize a sort of TWW fight night in that arcade, and I remember ShinAntonio coming out. Good days, indeed. I never played Hugo, though - I was almost always Remy. I used Ryu every so often, but Remy used to be able to really throw people off since not many others that I ever saw used him. Didn't like the character design so much, but the moves were exceptional. I don't think I was ever really as good at SFIII as I was at Alpha 2 - hell, I never even bothered messing with the parry system. I didn't see much use for it with a charge/zone character.

I remember for a while that arcade had a Street Fighter multicade machine which had almost all of the Street Fighter games in it (except for III and EX). I really kinda wish I had bought that machine to go along with my NeoGeo. It's still a damn shame that that arcade is gone.

according to this thread, they added a shortcut for shoryuken moves so you can do them by just pressing down-forward twice. I tried it in training mode and it works. That seems to be causing the issue with Bison teleporting, because the down-forward motions are close enough together to register. Lame.

Any photos out there of each character in his/her different unlockable colors? I spent about 30 minutes unlocking just 1 for Guile, and then once I saw it immediately realized that I hate it. I am starting to truly detest having to wade through the crap to get the colors.

BTW my PSN is:

Nebulust

I mainly play Chun Li and Abel because I want to learn them properly.

When I get bored I cycle through Balrog, Blanka, Guile, Cammy and Sakura.

I'll probably be on a lot Sunday night.

Glad to know at least I'm not going crazy. More people than not agree that Guile sucks in this game. It just kills me to go from the absolute greatness of Charlie and past incarnations of Guile to this one. Even EX Guile could probably beat the living hell out of this one.

I'm just going to start hoping that something changes in future content. I agree with every single thing said in this post:

Quote :
"The next edition of SF4 needs to bump up a lot of stuff with Guile. Quicker start up with the ultra, more damage with said ultra, better reach for normals, better damage for normals and specials, and changing the trajectory and hit box of the flash kick so it's a much more useful anti-air (ST style)."

Double Somersault isn't worth a damn since it doesn't get priority over anything.

Chun-Li

Some douchebag bought it on ebay from the UK even though I didn't specify UK shipping (4.99 ya right). How do I handle it? I'm just going to return it to gamestop if no one wants it, not gonna fuck with international shipping.

Tell him you were in a car accident on the way to the post office and it got locked up in your car to where you can't get it. Then show some pics of some devastating accident. But you gotta wait a few days to make it sound believable, like you were in the hospital. I recommend the pics in the garage.

or...you know...you could have specified "US only" when you set up the auction. I'm pretty sure that is an option and you can't blame a buyer for bidding.

you can also ask them to handle the extra shipping. most people will do so (like when people need me to ship to APO boxes).

i jsut think it is lame to buy something, try to flip it for profit, and then get pissed when you have to ship it elsewhere. if you didn't want it you could have always just returned it in the first place.

I had some amazing games last night.
Game after game the people I played were on my level or better and tended to vary their character usage.

I broke the 50 wins online medal last night, but my win percentage is only 38%. I think the more I play with less characters the better i'll get in the long run.

If I was that overly concerned with flipping it for a profit, I would have listed it BIN only and not even let them bid 49.99

I listed US shipping, not International I wasn't aware of restricting the auction by country. That's discrimination yo. Anyway, the buyer finally emailed me back, they weren't trying to scoop international shipping for 4.99 in the end and the thought that was put into their response swayed me from just returning it to Gamestop, I invoiced them for the additional shipping and they gladly obliged. It wasn't at all what I had imagined would happen with customs, money order requests, echecks who knows...

I walked in the store and back out, thought about it for a second and figured best case The demand is so high I will undercut the competition and get somebody a pad for a good deal and make my multiple town visits count for something. Worst case - return it to our gamestop and make someone else happy. Or something in between such as giving it to a buddy or TWW for the 42.50

Finally found a 360 FightPad in Jacksonville today though, so I'm pretty stoked, regardless.

I'd consider it, but I doubt I'll have time to be online tonight.

Speaking of, is today Guile day or something? Every other match I've played this afternoon has been against Guile. (Thankfully, I only lost to one of them.) I am beginning to see new uses for the focus bitch slap, but then I stupidly try to follow up the crumple with something which doesn't connect. I need to try to put an ultra in after that, but I don't know if it can be chained there. It'd be like the ONLY chance Guile has to land it...

Finally made it back into the 2700's today. I am finding that I'm having a much harder time against Zanqueef than Sagat.

Holy shit.
I went from one night (monday) of having amazing matches and getting a couple of more wins than losses.

to last night (wednesday) where I lost every single one of my 10 games I played. It was crazy I played one guy first that was amazing and I lost to him 5 times but I enjoyed learning from him, then I lost to a dan user twice and then I think I just went downhill from there because i was depressed. 38% to 35% win loss in one night.

I immediately went to challenge mode to brush up on some techniques.

it seemed much easier to do ryu's specials with the joystick on 360 controller than the floating d-pad. maybe there's just a learning curve that will catapult me back to my sega days.

yeah, i never have a problem doing a single quarter turn, but the doubles now and then cause me to do something silly instead of the super. still fun.

played with my friend last night, about 30 matches. he lost with CViper and just kept playing with her so i killed her with 10 different people just to prove a point. he gave up after losing to both Dan and Vega.

dont know if i really feel like playing random people on live, but it is a great 1v1 game to play with friends. nothing quite like coming back and winning round 3 with < 5% health (he could not fathom el fuertes ability to be gay in the 3rd).

Out of curiosity, who are you using and to whom are you losing? Maybe we can give you some tips and things to watch out for?

Y'all are welcome to send Silent Scope EX an invite, if you want.

In over 300 matches now, I have not yet ONCE seen anyone use Gen.

probably not too much considering they've already selected a price point and the demand for sticks at the price they provide is likely a lot higher than that of the scalper prices. game hasnt been out long enough to miss out on anyone who would buy a $150 stick either.

on a separate note, i did a helluva lot better yesterday playing in ranked games. won my first 5 or so. then went bout 50/50 from there on out. then again, i played people a lot closer to my point level (only around 500 still).

I have two HORI PS3 arcade sticks for sale with a ps3->ps2 adapter (the one used for GH, with no lag). It's a full size HORI arcade stick.

It looks like the following except it has the LE tekken graphics on the front:

Well alrighty then. Broke the 3000-BP glass ceiling with Guile. Character choice distribution above 2000 is very interesting - for as much as the stats show how broken Sagat is, I'd rather fight him than Zangief every day of the week. I read all the time about how the best people in Japan are playing Crimson Viper and Rufus, but I don't ever see anybody use them.

Finally got to see someone use Gen as well, and got absolutely demolished. He did one huge linking combo on me and I didn't touch the ground again until I had lost over 3/4 health. It was extremely impressive. Guess that guy sure did know how to "mash those buttons faster" than I did. LOL.

^^Went to final round in atlanta last weekend, SF4 had like almost 300 people in the tournament and the bracket was like almost as tall as me on the board haha. Justin Wong won with Rufus so he is definately hax, the whole statement of there is not rushdown chars in SF4 is a lie, he was killing it with rufus.

Interesting to hear about. Is there any footage of the fights online? I'd like to see what others are doing.

In the Gamespot pre-launch tournament, the champion won that one with Rufus as well. It didn't so much look like a rushing beatdown as it did a "waiting punishment" combofest. Rufus' moves just look so screwy it's difficult to know how to defend against some of them.

According to Japanese fighting experts, this is arguably the most balanced Street Fighter yet.

http://www.capcom-unity.com/s-kill/blog/2009/03/24/street_fighter_iv_unofficial_rankings_chart

Some guy put out some neat combos:

^When did they come out with that particular tier list?

The two I've seen all had an even lower spread on them (sagat 20 points above everyone but seth = holyshit), but I'm assuming they're earlier, since that guy's blog seems to keep up decently well.

Hmmm. I'd be curious to see some other charts. The last one I checked out through Shoryuken.com clearly indicated that Guile was dead last, and I firmly believe it. There are some things which still just flat out defy belief about this game. I can't conceive any way that Rose ranks lower than Vega...

^Here's one that hasn't been updated since the console release:
http://www.eventhubs.com/guides/2008/oct/17/street-fighter-4-tiers-character-rankings/
Still has some amount of relevance, though.
Also, there's per-move frame charts and damage charts on the same site.
Eventhubs also has the same chart that was posted in here on their blog-esque update space.

http://www5.atwiki.jp/koko100/pages/160.html
This one's in all japanese, and the math apparently got fucked up beyond all belief. Apparently it got adjusted and fixed into the one we see in this thread.

I had seen one that came out almost right after the console release, but I can't seem to find it anywhere now.

well i got rusty and suck. i used to really like sagat until i learned he was overpowered. then i felt just like the faggots that all play ken (not that he is, but im just tried of seeing him do the same shit).

swapped to blanka. more fun and i dont feel gay playing him. i will switch to sagat if they decide to play ken though. he deserve it.

ive never been good at fighting games so i hover between 900-1300 now and im satisfied i guess.

I'd be willing to bet that if Guile's flash kick was fixed to the point that it actually worked, he'd climb up into the top 1/3 tier.

I'm convinced that you have a be a truly diehard Guile fan to consider using him in this game.
