The crew rollin around as the news team from Anchorman was hilarious. They even had some chick following them around w/ a big video camera. But sorry no pics. Didn't have a free hand for a camera.

And the cops for the most part were chill. I did the majority of my drinking on the street between bars. I got caught before I finished the last part of my last beer, but all the dude made me do was throw it away. It's probably for the best considering I already had enough to the point where I can't remember that last hour before I went to bed last night. I'm still not sure why my bedroom floor and my socks basket are soaked in water or why my bookshelf was moved away from the wall. That's a big ass bookshelf to move when sober, let alone while drunk.

That article sucked. I didn't see "Many docksiders and polo’s could be observed, mostly oogling the barely costumed girls." Way to stereotype doosh.

I did see sketchy black dudes scheming on girls at the corners. Had fun though, because I was a terrorist. Dirka dirka.

that article was horribly inaccurate.

the event was a blast! Most of the people I saw had costumes on, MUCH more than chapel hill. Most of the people were there to participate, and not creepily stare at the girls (again, much better than the crowd in chapel hill.)

I hope the tradition continues next year (ON A FRIDAY NIGHT! WHOOO!!!)

^^^^Franklin Street turned out alright. Here's NBC 17's halloween article. Since I've already posted pics in the Halloween Costume thread in chit chat I wont bother repeating here, but it was a lot of fun and I'm glad hillsborough st is beginning to emulate that.

"CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Just a few hours ago Chapel Hill's Halloween festival wrapped up and now it's time to clean up.

Discuss This Story
NBC17 Halloween Page

Thousands packed Franklin Street for the annual event.

Looking at Franklin Street now you'd never know the Halloween festival was last night.

And while I couldn't make it, 82,000 others did and it looked like they had a blast. Of that crowd, Chapel Hill police said there were only 13 arrests.

Tens of thousands of people crowded onto Franklin Street last night on a night when anything goes.

From pretty princesses to scary guys, they were all the rage in Chapel Hill.

"It's just crazy, so many people. It's a lot of fun," said Randy Grimson, who came as a pirate.

But no matter what the costume having a good time was the goal.

"The getting dressed up part is pretty wild," said Elly Hovis. "It's just an excuse to have fun with friends."

But all that fun left behind a big mess and that's when the clean up crews came in.

Street sweepers and garbage trucks all burned the midnight oil to get Franklin Street back to normal.

Cleaning crews cleared out of here a while ago and Franklin Street is back open to traffic and Chapel Hill police say overall everything went well last night.

Officers say there were 13 arrests and only 8 people were taken to UNC hospitals.

State should have a hike like this for St. Patrick's Day as well. Think about it, Halloween is around the mid-semester point and so is St. Patrick's Day. Why not have a mid-semester party for both the Fall and Spring semesters? Maybe St. Patrick's Day @ State will be the big party in the area for St. Patrick's Day.

Make it happen TWW!

"that lego man won the contest?

While it is a damn good costume, he probably only netted like tree-fiddy (outta $500 bucks) from the prize money. I bet he dropped some good dough making that costume."

i talked with the lego guy at the WolfMart for about 10 minutes. He said his entire costume only cost him about $50, and he's a college of design student. he was really nice and it was hilarious watching him try to buy beer from there b/c he could only stick his hand out of his neck hole where his lego-head went.

I'm suprised no one has mentioned the girl dressed as a $100 bill that wore nothing but body paint and a G-String? She turned a LOT of heads when she was outside PizzAmerica near us.

the night was definitely more fun than I expected. gf & I were Little Red Riding Hood and The Big Bad Wolf (Tuffy, State mascot).

to improve it for future years:
1) more bars/restaurants should be open to handle the crowd($$, yea!)
2) they should close at least part of Hillsborough St. Some of the areas outside a few bars were way too crowded for the sidewalk.

i'll be back next year, screw franklin!

eh, i didn't really enjoy myself there

on the way there, me and my buddies spent an hour being hassled forby ncsu rent-a-cops (one was farva from supertroopers, the other one was a flaming homo) for leaning on a wolfline bus sign. i dropped my wallet there while we were being questioned and didn't realize it... then i had no money when we got to hillsborough st. there, drunk rude people made mean comments about me and my costume and some weird ass person took a picture of me through a restaurant window.

i found my wallet, but not until after i cancelled my credit cards... my bank is far away so i'm screwed on money for a while, who the fuck takes a check anymore?

i used to love halloween but now i'm starting to think it is for kids

ok that lego costume sucks for several reasons.
1. Practicality- doesn't look like home skillet can even move inside of that thing.
2. Size- anyone can make a huge model of something and then put it over them making a "costume"... the real challenge (in my opinion) is to make a wearable costume that is functional, not just a big ass shell.

GREEN JAY - I may have been that weird person that took your pic through the window. I was taking pictures of the event for http://goodnightraleigh.com. Normally I ask everyone's permission before taking their picture but it simply was not an option for the event last night. There's no way I could have got pictures trying to ask everyone's permission while they were having a good time.

MattJM321 - for disclosure I consider myself a friend of the folks at newraleigh.com, but I didn't think the article sucked. I think what sucked is that it got scant mention from any of the local media outlets.

There are about 16 pics up now on my site, but I'll be posting more in the coming days.. eventually I'll put ~100 or so on an online gallery. The best Bob Ross ever will be online very soon too!

I was the dude with a shaved head and an army sweatsuit.

I had a lot of fun, and it was definitely more successful than I thought it would be.

yeah, I covered the hockey players two weeks ago at one of their practices. Might cover a game for them if we do another sports feature story.

Oh, if anyone has a picture of me, I was the photographer that looked like a ghost busters. Couldn't miss me.
