I see it like a McDonald's coffee cup 10 years ago. Sure, it had no warning saying that the coffee is hot and you should be careful, but if you start chugging it or spill it all over yourself it's more likely than not your own fault if you get hurt. That being said, Food Lion needs to clarify their signs if they don't want people parking there overnight because they live in a college town and people are gonna do whatever they can to get a break.Hur should get his money back and possibly some money for the time his car was missing because it is Food Lion's fault that people were parking there. I know I've had friends park in the area before (the other shopping center, not food lions) and have had no problems. I would be pissed, but I do remember telling people that parked there to be careful and I wasn't gonna pay for their towing fees if they got towned.

we are gonna come regulate that keyboard

If this happened all over Raleigh, I'd be more accepting of the practice. But the fact that it directly targets young folks is what makes it fucked up.They claim that we young folks walk around like we're entitled to the world...well, maybe we need to boost that sense of entitlement and start fighting this shit. Demand they respect us.
10/9/2007 6:31:01 PM
Even if the towing company was in the wrong for towing the cars, you and your friends are still morons for thinking it was perfectly all right to park there. And everyone that keeps bringing up the McDonald's coffee suit are falling victim to rhetoric rather than anything close to a real understanding of that particular lawsuit.
10/9/2007 7:02:25 PM
^they were morons because they were doing something that has been PERFECTLY ok for at LEAST 5 years???
10/9/2007 7:22:03 PM
They were morons because common sense says a business's private parking lot isn't meant to be used for public parking. You shouldn't need a sign to tell you that.
10/9/2007 7:39:16 PM
if they had parked on the perimeter would they have been towed?
10/9/2007 7:41:40 PM
that's not common sense. common sense says food lion is closed at night, and nobody would normally be using the parking lot, so what's the problem??
10/9/2007 7:42:07 PM
There are towing signs all over that parking lot.You all have to pay.Believe me, I have checked out that parking lot, as with everywhere I park. There are a minimum of 4 signs at the front of the lot with the towing information, and that towing is enforced. They are properly placed, marked, and sized.after reading more:Most lots say no overnight parking, though I don't know about food lion.Parking at the outer perimeter, at the back of the lot is completely safe. They used to allow parking, till it was abused. Just like everything, if you abuse it, it will be taken away. That is the people's fault who parked there. A company can change its practices at any time, and they are not responsible if you break the new, and heavily posted rules.[Edited on October 9, 2007 at 8:01 PM. Reason : .]

i sleep at night, does that mean anyone should be welcome to park in my driveway during that time? i understand the argument of a private business open to the public should provide parking for its customers, but why should that extend to after hours?i'm not understanding where this sense of entitlement is coming from. maybe when some of you buy some property of your own you'll understand.i hate ace towing as much as anyone else and i hate that it even sounds like i'm defending them, but it's downright retarded to expect that you and your friends should be provided with free parking ON SOMEONE ELSES PROPERTY.i will say that i don't think it's some night manager at food lion's decision to have cars towed, unless he was under orders from the owners (maybe he was). truth be known, it's probably another company that owns/maintains the property but i don't know that to be a fact.

10/9/2007 9:56:54 PM
WRAL doesnt care about stupid drunkass frats[Edited on October 9, 2007 at 10:01 PM. Reason : only care if someone gets shot at a frat party]
10/9/2007 10:00:42 PM
FOR THE WIN................Unless the tow company number is in super fine font that did not show up in my 4.1 MegaPixel camera and the sign has UV magical paint that at night changes Wolfline Rider to "NO PARKING AFter HOURS" then food lion broke the law, was in the wrong, and should have to reimburse every penny for not following proper towing laws.
10/9/2007 10:02:58 PM
Apparently WRAL HAS BEEN CONTACTED!!What did they tell you HUR?
10/9/2007 10:03:30 PM
so when is your court date?
10/9/2007 10:04:42 PM
10/9/2007 10:40:58 PM
I would bet the vast majority of wolfline park & ride people patronize that food lion since its right there where they get on/off the bus.
10/9/2007 11:07:32 PM
5^ PHOTOSHOPPED!!!
10/10/2007 9:46:21 AM
10/10/2007 12:13:15 PM
In their defense, when I read the sign it seems to me that the intent is 'do not inhibit customer parking during business hours'. If it was 2am and I saw that sign, I wouldn't hesitate to park there.I mean, if they don't want you to park there afterr business hours... why not... i dunno... tell you or post a damn sign to that effect?
10/10/2007 2:27:24 PM
^ Be careful. People don't take too kindly to logic around here.
10/10/2007 2:36:03 PM
no shit ^. Well WRAL has contacted me today. The lady needed help finding a source for the Raleigh Ordinance codes and thanks to TWW I had a source. yay!
10/10/2007 2:46:47 PM
I hope this airs on WRAL.
10/10/2007 2:49:10 PM

MoonStar is gonna take this shit public. FOODLION/ACE TOWING are going down! WRAL CrimeStoppers!!!!!
10/10/2007 4:09:44 PM
can you please not mention TKE if you make it on the news?thanks
10/11/2007 9:49:50 AM
is anyone willing to bet the only thing to come from this is signs that are more strict?
10/11/2007 9:52:04 AM
at least everyone will be 100% sure what the parking deal at FoodLion is. Therefore no one will have a false sense of security that their car is fine since they are not "Wolfline Riders" only to come back to find their car is towed.
10/11/2007 10:47:02 AM
frankly, i'd rather not have to search for a space when i go to the grocery store because of damn college kids parking their cars in the lot to ride the bus.
10/11/2007 10:49:36 AM
This thread is just a bunch of whining. If you are really concerned, go do something about it. Contact Student Legal Services and they are FREE. They could give you advice about the situation. I see you contacted WRAL. Last time I checked WRAL was media not legal advice. I don't think your story will cause too much of an uproar in the community.
10/11/2007 10:50:10 AM
10/11/2007 10:52:44 AM
you people should live in a real city where they dont fuck around with parkingyou kids have it easy in raleigh, parking is good there
10/11/2007 10:59:02 AM
i'm pretty sure you and your friends who got towed are the only people who couldn't figure out that those signs applied to all noncustomers, and i may have missed it, but i was just wondering. you said they started leaving at 2am, so what time did the party start?
10/11/2007 11:16:17 AM
10/11/2007 11:58:42 AM
or you could take from the sign that since it didn't give hours it applies 24 hours a day, see it works both waysyou didn't answer my question though, what time did your party start?
10/11/2007 12:22:28 PM
11;
10/11/2007 12:28:26 PM
so the foodlion was still open when your guests started parking there?
10/11/2007 12:29:45 PM
debatable, b.c the people that would have showed up latest would have been the ones to hit up foodlion after our parking lot and greek way were full.
10/11/2007 12:31:15 PM
here's a simple questiondid the signs meet the legal requirements to list the towing company, 24 hour number, etc
10/11/2007 12:32:22 PM
NObtw do any of you all have a source of the ordinance requiring the name and number of the towing company. WRAL action 5 needs some help with the investigation.
10/11/2007 12:58:38 PM
10/11/2007 1:18:40 PM
HUR, I think you and your friends are clearly in the right here, hope you get some/ all of the money back.
