5scooters between H8R and myself

This is probably a terrible place to ask.My scoot (50cc GY6) is running like shit atm. I've changed the oil, tryed messing with the low speed mixture (back at stock now) and cleaned the air filter. No kinks or clogs in hoses, fuel is clean. <-- stuffed I've check thus farProblem: Scooter starts up fine, seems to idle great, then I take off and it looses power, bogs down, and dies. Does this a few times before it keeps running (guessing just warming up). After this the scoot has VERY little power. I might get 15 mph on flat, 30 downhill. Uphill I can give it full throttle and the thing just gurgles and can't even get uphill. I've been thinking it might be the autochoke, but I've disconnected it, problem persists. Other things I've read are possibly the valve gaps or something.I am mechanically ignorant. I'm sure I could figure out how to tear it down, I'd like some suggestions on what it could be first, before I go blindly ripping it apart. Also, if anyone wants to come look at it and give me an opinion I'll throw some $$ your way.*What is this seafoam shit I keep reading about? It sounds like a fix-all for carbs. Think it'd help?[Edited on November 7, 2008 at 2:02 PM. Reason : .....]

clean the carb up big time.. take it off, tear it apart.also do a valve adjustment.
11/7/2008 2:15:42 PM
Any special tools required for tearing the carb apart? I'm guess a decent socket set/screwdriver will suffice. Compressed air for cleaning out the jets and stuff? For the valves, feeler gauges?I'm really new to all this stuff. Never done any of it before.
11/7/2008 2:36:36 PM
screwdriver and a few sockets should be plenty to work on the carbfeeler gauges + basic tools for valve adjustment[Edited on November 7, 2008 at 2:38 PM. Reason : asdf]

yeah, if its a 4 stroke, it just comes off with screws that clamp on to the intake pipe and also onto the air box. then get a wrench, 12mm, and take off the throttle cable, and unplug the autochoke. disconnect the fuel lines and it'll come off. if its a 2, its either bolted on with 2 bolts connecting it to the intake pipe, or the same setup as the 4stroke with clamps.the valve adj. isnt hard depending on the scooter. the hardest part is actually getting the valve cover off. you might think you'll have room by just takein the seat out, but do yourself a favor and take the trim peices off, it will be much easier. pop the valve cover off and the specs can be found online here http://chinesescoots.forumwise.com/forum.html .and remember to do the valve adj. on a cold motor.[Edited on November 7, 2008 at 4:32 PM. 4/21/2009 7:07:48 PM
i hope some idiot didnt actually buy that
4/21/2009 7:20:36 PM
Why do you say that? That's a pretty angry scoot. beats the fuck out of riding a bike. If you know ScubaSteve's taste in cars, this is right up his alley
4/21/2009 7:37:27 PM
oh, i'd ride/buy that in related news, if this rebored met engine ever goes out, i'm doing a 150cc GY6 swap: http://www.urbanscootin.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=10682seems like it wouldn't be too difficult, based on this guy's detailed step-by-step journal of the process
4/21/2009 8:38:44 PM
Someone needs to come pick up that scooter frame from under my house..we need it gone ASAP
4/21/2009 8:44:23 PM

no worries, I don't have it on CL... it does have a cdi and new variator. Unfortunately the bags hide much of the custom stuff inside. [Edited on April 21, 2009 at 10:38 PM. Reason : .]

Recently got my scooter fixed at "Scoot Scoot Inc." off of Dixie Trail. I highly recommend those guys. And I'm not trying to diss scooterz inc, they simply can't fix my scooter because I did not buy mine there. /advertisement][Edited on April 21, 2009 at 11:44 PM. Reason : scooterz]
4/21/2009 11:35:58 PM
^probably a licensing issue. Scooterz INc have dealer licenses for certain brands, and ScootScoot has them for others. Do you have a Benelli? Dealer licences are set in a way that only one shop does sales and maintanance on a particular brand withing a certain geographical area. Otherwise i don't see why they wouldnt work on it even if you did not buy the scoot from them.
4/22/2009 8:58:31 AM
whats everyones take on a hyosing(sp) i know very little but i know they have only been around for a few years, after a few engineers branching off suzuki or kawi. whats the quality, compaired to zuma, rucks, and what not
4/22/2009 9:16:42 AM
^^ judging by their website, they deal with generic chinese scoots, so they might work on anythinghttp://www.scootscootinc.com/
4/22/2009 9:18:22 AM
all of them use that same damn cheap ass engine
4/24/2009 2:10:20 AM

When I was in Vietnam, I rode the Honda SH scooter. It was by far the best scooter I've ever ridden in, but I couldn't find them here for some reason.
4/27/2009 6:49:21 AM
^ that's because they're not here yet...look for them in june, though (for the low low price of $4500k!): http://powersports.honda.com/2010/sh150i.aspx[Edited on April 27, 2009 at 8:04 AM. Reason : low low!]
4/27/2009 8:03:52 AM
4.5mil for a scoot!
4/27/2009 9:13:53 AM
oh, oops...i had $5k there before i double-checked and realized it was $4500 MSRP
4/27/2009 9:55:36 AM
best way to get better acceleration and mostly top speed would be changing the weights and variator crap or what?
4/28/2009 5:03:27 PM
SH105 is still not really a scooter, more of an automatic motorcike. But at least SH150 is technologically advanced. Here is another WTF newcomer, Honda Cub-based Sym:http://www.wired.com/autopia/2009/04/worlds-most-pop/all we need is some more ghay-looking overpriced 50-year-old technology. Like Urals and Vespas wern't enough
4/28/2009 5:09:28 PM
^why is the SH150 not considered a scooter?
4/28/2009 5:34:52 PM
how hard is it to put a crf50 driveline into a ruckus.tryin to get that 3 speed
4/28/2009 5:46:54 PM
^^well, it is a large-displacemment scooter technically, since it has a CVT and a step-through design, but it is not a "moped", which would make it legal to ride without license or registration in NC (soon to change). With 150cc engine it is not legal without a motorcycle license, and larger wheels probably make the ride more motorcycle-like. all the specs are pretty modern though, fuel-injected liquid cooled four stroke, abs, and the whole nine yards.[Edited on April 28, 2009 at 5:48 PM. i picked up a zuma today and i need to pimp this shit out. hook a brotha up.
4/28/2009 11:04:37 PM
now the met is starting to wind up when i give it gas, but it doesn't start moving for a moment or twoslipping clutch?
4/29/2009 8:56:44 AM
^there is a website that i found that diagnoses all of those problems by reall detailed descriptions. it's on my computer at home ill try and remember to put it up for u tonight.btw skoot skoots are the shit. def. need a pipe and variator kit for mine up top speed a lil from 35!! hahawith ur problem im giong to guess slipping clutch or belt. im not quite sure yet tho i've only been reading up on skoots for a day now![Edited on April 29, 2009 at 11:11 AM. WTF nc is going to require registration and insurance on scoots... license too now?they are really trying to get more money arent they!
4/29/2009 1:56:25 PM
^ is that definite or is it still in the works? it's pretty retarded, i agree...i think the 50cc market will see a fall in sales if this happens, since the lack of a license/insurance requirement is a big selling point (price, too, obviously...but if you HAVE to have a license and insurance, why not just go with a big scoot or a small motorcycle?)also, if you post that link, that'd be great...since i can't get a hold of tripleD4u, i might try taking this thing apart myself...nothing like reverse engineering as a learning experience
4/29/2009 2:20:19 PM
where do u live at? you and i could take it apart one day. i dont have many tools but i too would like to become a scootering mechanical expert, or decent at em!btw.. just blew out my rear shock today on a rail road jump. time to upgrade btw i ordered a leo vinci pipe and some kinda spring and roller shit for mine. will hold off on variator upgrade for now to see what pipe does.from what i've read.. the registration insurance thing is going to be going into effect.not so sure about license though. it seems 50/50 on the state representatives either wanting u to have one or not. ppl are already saying how they have a scoot bc they dont have a license and have no other means of transport.. public transportation in nc is pretty shitty!so im pretty sure registration/insurance will be going into effect. the state wants to do this bc:1. more money for them, since they could barely give ppl money back for their taxes this year (haha)2. hold scooter owners liable for shit they hit. scooters weren't so big time but as of recently with gas prices and the economy they have become really really popular. so there are more accidents on them bc of this too. and if ur on a scoot and u hit a car and have no insurance the state (i think) says it's the car owners problem.but really how much damage could a scooter do anyway. i think they are using the 'liability/insurance' thing so that they can just have an excuse to get more $[Edited on April 29, 2009 at 3:24 PM.
