can i shoot it

towed ~14k with it this weekend from raleigh to mountain city, tn and back. going up highway 421 around deep gap was a 20mph affair in order to keep the egt's at a sane level, but it did really well otherwise considering what it is.in all fairness, that stretch is an ~8% grade for a few miles and gross combined weight was probably tipping the scales in the 30-32k range. that's a hell of a load for a little b5.9 and a non lockup converter.it is in desperate need of an exhaust brake for towing in the mountains. the bus and trailer brakes get hot quick on descents.

BALLER AS FUCK.I'm envious. I shoulda sucked it up and gone with you fuckers. Why didn't you take the yarrrrcharger?I ended up going to Raleigh, going to Betski's and getting shitfaced, and then going to an after party that I walked about 6 blocks home from at 4:00 in the morning. So while I got my rest Friday night, it was pretty much a wash after Saturday night.

^^^ ahahaha, he was all about some sidewalks. I think we parked on a sidewalk almost every time we stopped.
8/20/2007 1:37:17 PM
^^yeah, you should have come. we had a good time.i just wasn't up to shifting gears all weekend with my leg so i didn't bother with the yarrrcharger. danny drove my cruiser up there and i wheeled that. of course a toyota was the only thing capable of making the drive there, getting beat on all weekend, then being driven home. the poor jeeps had to be trailered. ^haha, they're the only things long/straight enough to park on.

8/20/2007 2:37:35 PM
I'm trying to load what I have, but my main computer isn't cooperating
8/20/2007 2:40:56 PM
ours is on our video camera, i don't know if that can be loaded onto here. there are talks of a gathering to watch the video from this weekend...
8/20/2007 4:46:18 PM
I think you could DL it to youtube?!?!
8/20/2007 4:48:02 PM
not everything they have, i think joel used a whole tape. it'd need to be edited down into uploadable clips, assuming he even has the means to get it on the computer in the first place.

OMG... I love the bus! Could you guys like live on there or something?! Looks like you could fit a tv, shitter, a grill and a fridge for beer! Definitely looks like a man's bus!
8/20/2007 4:55:56 PM
we'll check into it tonight. if it can go on youtube, it will, and if it can't, it sounds like a good excuse for a cook out
8/20/2007 4:59:05 PM
It was alot of fun. that hillclimb was crucial.
8/20/2007 5:42:19 PM
^^^umm, it's not really suitable for long stays as it is. it's good enough for a weekend though. it's got beds, a/c, fridge, microwave, and a tv. for any kind of long term stay you would want to at least add a bathroom, redo the electrical system, and get a better generator. i can't decide if i want to spend the money on making it nice and fully converting the inside, or just use it as it is for a while longer and use that money torwards a diesel pusher rv. that's the way i'm leaning.
8/20/2007 7:03:36 PM
I think you should keep it as is but some free cusions from CL for the bunks would be good land Cruzer FTW hahah

So I take it that thing started life as a box truck, then got converted to an RV somewhere along the way? Wow...definitely unique. Looks pretty plush inside too.Interesting, um, graphics?
12/18/2007 1:06:11 AM
yeah, it was originally what's called a hot shot or expediter truck. shipping companies use them for overnight or special deliveries, etc. the large majority of them are owner/operator rigs, so you generally get something that's been taken care of. they also usually have great otr drivetrains with class 8 power and transmissions, where as most fleet owned box trucks just have smaller medium duty engines with lower gearing. it's only got about 500k on it (that's not bad for a big truck) and had an overhaul 3k ago.the graphics will definitely be going soon... probably just roll over them with white temporarily, then paint it all black eventually. i still haven't decided for sure that i'll keep it, need to take a few trips and see how it works out. so far i'm pretty happy with it. my only complaint is it's a hell of a lot more challenging to drive and maneuver than the bus.
12/18/2007 1:24:24 AM
I want to drive this thing, see if we can't figure out how to make it a little less challenging. What's the biggest hurdle? Handling/turning radius? Shifting?
12/18/2007 1:27:00 AM
bring it on man, i've told you you're welcome to take it out whenever. it's really nothing that can be fixed... just the turning radius and the sheer size in general. once you get the trailer on the back, it's every bit as long as an 18 wheeler. easily 70-75ft. overall i'd say.for what it is, the bus is VERY nimble. i'll bet it turns better than my f350. i can (just barely) swing it and my trailer around in the cul de sac at my parent's house. 12/18/2007 1:41:27 AM
did you sell the prison transport bus?
12/18/2007 1:41:36 AM
no, it's still for sale. i've been out of town a lot recently and haven't really had a chance to advertise it hard. probably get back on it soon.
