^ I think this is a great move IMO. It will fire Jake up and honestly I don't think Carr is a bad QB at all. Good job panthers.
4/6/2007 8:43:21 AM
great move for the panthers.......it'll be an interesting QB battle in camp....as for espn's draft showing us taking olsen....while it's not totally out of the question with the new OC, it would be a bad imo. We have glaring holes on D that need immediate attention. We've already shown we can win w/o a pass catching TE, but we can't do anything when the middle of our D is soft. I would like to see a big time TE, but I just don't think its as important as our D right now.....if we can make another solid FA signing @ either LB or S, then it's a different story, but as of now, our D needs are far more pressing than our O needs.
4/6/2007 8:56:12 AM
just thought about how we now have the top 2 picks from the '02 draft....kinda crazy.
4/6/2007 11:06:58 AM
^^Agreed.Patrick Willis and LaRon Landry should be our only options in the 1st round.
4/6/2007 1:19:39 PM
dont listen to wadhead1, he is a complete tool. yeah your a tool.
4/6/2007 1:40:07 PM
I think its interesting that they are saying Jake is still the unquestioned starter. This was an "appease the fanbase" move IMO, because jake should do just fine behind a healthy O-line~ I dont see Carr getting regular season PT unless Jake is hurt.I figured we might try and get a more mobile QB with the Zone blocking offense scheme, but Carr is hardly more mobile than Jake. Both have tendencies to throw picks under pressure, but Carr perhaps is better holding onto the ball and taking sacks instead of launching picks. We could have spent that $$ to fill defensive needs, because we are risking alot on the health of the "human concussion machine" in our LB core that seriously lacks depth. But I like Carr and I truly think he never got to show his potential with the Texans. I just wonder if he will be able to showcase his skills for us or if he will sit behind Jake and eventually end up on the chopping block again.
4/6/2007 1:51:18 PM
4/6/2007 2:35:15 PM
True. I forgot that he seems to break that same thumb every year and his interceptions increase along with it.
4/6/2007 2:37:02 PM
He's certainly a better backup than WeinkeBut unless Jake goes out or really really really fucks up, he's still our starter
4/6/2007 2:37:27 PM
4/6/2007 3:01:43 PM
^when the Texans picked Mario, they didnt want to make the same mistake as they did that year by picking Carr over Pepp
4/6/2007 3:02:47 PM
4/6/2007 4:11:03 PM
4/6/2007 4:24:36 PM
yeah mario is nowhere near as good as peppers in my opinion
4/6/2007 4:25:32 PM
I think Carr will make a perfect fit for the Panthers. Hopefully he'll get his chance.I like Delhomme, but he was pretty bad last year. He needs to step up this year or move on.
4/6/2007 4:33:47 PM
Great signing.Whether he becomes the starter at any point or if he even becomes a good QB at any point I still think this was a great signing.Anytime you can get a guy cheaply who has this much potential & experience it's a great move.
4/6/2007 4:39:20 PM
still though...for all the Delhomme haters who automatically think Carr should be a starter just remember thisthe fucking TEXANS didnt sign him for some reason...he's not damn Peyton Manning
4/6/2007 4:56:18 PM
and yet peyton manning would've sucked balls much less effective IMO had he played behind that o-line. i'm impressed by this move as well
4/6/2007 5:00:26 PM
dont get me wrong i like the movebut its april...and carr has thrown more picks than TDs for his career...i guess everybody is a hero until they actually play and make a mistake
4/6/2007 5:02:01 PM
Carr completed 68% of his passes last year. What was Delhomme's completion percentage? In the 50's IIRC.
4/6/2007 5:33:31 PM
carr completed 68% of his passesand one of the worst teams in the league cut him]
4/6/2007 5:34:21 PM
If it were any other franchise that cut him, I'd be worried. But this is a franchise that has never made a good decision in it's existence. Knowing how the their front office works, getting cut by the Texans means that Carr will be a pro-bowler soon.
4/6/2007 5:38:47 PM
touche and i hope youre righti just think when the starting QB is struggling, everybody thinks the backup is better, often times because they havent had a chance to fuck up...ie chris weinkebut i hope he does well
4/6/2007 5:41:20 PM
Exciting...so the panthers are participating in the off season. Thats kool with me. Will make for an interesting battle, but we should all know that barring an injury to Jake, Jake will be the starter. I like the TE pick for offense...but damn, or D is just getting soft.... III
4/6/2007 5:51:34 PM
4/6/2007 5:52:05 PM
panthers under delhomme have been (correct me if i'm wrong)...11-5 (supebowl loss)...7-9 (missed playoffs by one game)...11-5 (nfc title game loss)...8-8 (missed playoffs by one game)...so i'm predicting an 11-5 season and an, um....an appearance in the nfc title game? ]
4/6/2007 5:53:28 PM
this is a great move...he will be starter about halfway through the season
4/6/2007 6:17:05 PM
Early word out of Charlotte is DE Julius Peppers, whose contract expires after the 2008 season, wants to become the highest-paid defensive player in the league with his next contract and if the Panthers don't offer it, he wants to hit the free-agent market.
4/7/2007 3:47:39 PM
We hear the Panthers will not make a single move in free agency or in the draft at the RB position. In fact, our sources tell us the Panthers believe their backfield of DeShaun Foster and DeAngelo Williams, with an increased workload for Eric Shelton, is a strength.
4/7/2007 3:48:04 PM
Carr will only become a starter this season if Jake is injured or goes 0-2 or greater. I think they brought him to give Jake competition and to groom him for the future. Any other thoughts cannot be taken serious.I don't think our RB position should be touched in draft unless someone great drops in our lap. Lets go TE first round - Olsen from The Uthen go DB,LB or vice versa...and damn pick up someone in FA for the positions too III
4/7/2007 7:40:03 PM
I think picking Olsen that high is a stretch. With Minter on his way out the door and Morgan in question, there's no way we pass on LB or S in the first round. If Landry and Nelson are gone, we go with a LB. Otherwise we pick up one of these top 2 safeties. We should address S/LB and then turn to TE or DL. And the DL is considering the recent rumors of us putting Kris Jenkins on the trading block.
4/7/2007 8:15:06 PM
If Olsen is there, I say we will take him. Our D suffered from inept offense among other things...I agree out DB need a Beyonce type "UPGRADE" and that our LB core is on the downhill slope of the mountain. But if we can pick Olsen at that pick-that is a steal....Not discounting the DB/LB needs...I thought we might fight for a TE for free agency, but was so wrong...(I know the door is still open, but would have been nice to have that decision made before draft.) III
4/7/2007 8:59:53 PM
Peppers is a lifer with the Panthers...he will get tagged every year(he will never hit the free agent market), but maybe someone will do a Gilbert type deal.....2 firsts for him.charlotte.com is saying Panthers want to ship fatty, Jenkins, if the price is right.....[Edited on April 7, 2007 at 9:28 PM. ^ A TE or a DB....or both (yeah right) III

http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/stories.nsf/rams/story/D31399EE7611E4F3862572B60011920F?OpenDocumentApparently the Rams have shown some interest in Kris Jenkins. If we can get some good picks out of this, I wouldn't be against it at all.We would have kemo-eat-u and damione lewis as starters and not terrible depth behind them. plus jenkins is injury prone and a lazy ass. i say bring it onanother article on this: http://www.heraldonline.com/247/story/15457.html
4/8/2007 11:26:37 PM
Hmmmm Could be good, if we get some quality draft picks for him. I am still questionable about how I feel about Jenkins...some games he is a beast and others he seems young....if we can get some good draft numbers....it can be very beneficial to help stak the LB's and DB's. III
4/9/2007 9:10:49 AM
the rams want all our players
4/9/2007 9:16:28 AM
I doubt that we can get more than a 2nd round draft pick out of Kris Jenkins.
4/9/2007 9:19:00 AM
^move up in the draft (to get landry), plus a 3rd rounder or so. Not to mention moving Jenkins will free up around 4.5 mil in cap space. I think him not showing up for the offseason workout program was the last straw....and don't forget he was a pro-bowler last year, so that'll raise his worth some.
4/9/2007 9:55:20 AM
no doubt that pep is consistent while jenkins isnt. Both are legit probowlers when they play well.I hate to lose Jenkins: but if we can draft good, young talent for him then its a worthy loss.Dont underestimate the human concussion machine: he is the best "mic" LB in the league and if we can keep him in the games through the season he is superb at guiding the rest of our LBs.As for who the panthers draft 1st.... they will do what the other teams around them allow them to and pick the best player regardless of position.... our team as it is right now will get the job done and we can always trade to accomodate needy positions. Who knows? We may draft a DT and send Jenkins packing....
4/9/2007 11:05:23 AM
4/9/2007 11:23:17 AM
^ free up cap space to keep peppers here!
4/9/2007 11:27:41 AM
^I can get with that.....they need to extend pepps contract before he gets a chance to test the FA market, b/c he would draw some huge offers. Plus, imo he's going to have a monster year, with mcglover breaking out at the other end.
4/9/2007 11:33:32 AM
^Moorehead is a free agent. If Jenkins gets traded, Kemo and Lewis will start.
4/9/2007 12:32:18 PM
^right you are....and i totally forgot about LewisMoorhead hasn't signed anywhere has he? I'd expect the panthers to resign him if jenkins goes, and he hasn't been picked up yet.
4/9/2007 12:38:38 PM
^^nah moorehead is still unsigned. if jenkins does go i'm about 99% sure the panthers would resign moorehead. you're right, he is underrated. a little undersized but he has great gap penetrability
4/9/2007 12:47:28 PM
That year Jenkins was hurt (wait both years) we had solid D line play, so we should be just fine. But we also had younger Buckner and Rucker along with Pep and Moorehead then as well...Ya think that Moorehead may look better because the rest of the Panthers Dline was sick nasty and drew most of the attention? I hope that isnt the case...
4/9/2007 2:30:14 PM
4/9/2007 2:37:56 PM
^i.e. should not a starter for any NFL team because they would stack the line and run right at him over and over again. He is a great change of pace Dlineman though....
4/9/2007 2:53:03 PM
yeah, but we have carstons and lewis....carstons especially is a good run stuffer.....if Jenkins goes, it'll probably depend on who we play as to who gets more PT......Kemo usually rotated with moorhead on passing downs last year if i'm not mistaken, so we're likely to have 2 specific DT's for running downs (kemo and carstons) and 2 for Passing (moorhead and lewis). We also have a few no-name DT's we just signed.....who knows, one of them could step up and take a starting spot....but if jenkins goes, I doubt we'll have the traditional DT that plays almost every down, rather DT by committee.
