im kinda in the boat of "maybe ill buy it when cheaper, but probably not."i think it is hilarious that noone is bringing up its weight when sony fanboys couldnt chuckle enough about the original xbox being a brick. does shiny black plastic make the heaviness go away?

I have to find something to do to fill my time when I'm not making the big bucks or booting up a PS1 game on my $600 video game console.

12/21/2006 4:31:52 PM

12/21/2006 4:33:36 PM

12/21/2006 4:47:37 PM
CAN WE GET A MOD IN HERE
12/21/2006 4:51:21 PM
^^this isn't about how rich I am... Someone else keeps making that point.I was perfectly fine discussing the PS3, it's pros + cons, and how I would like it to be better.you're barking up the wrong tree.
12/21/2006 5:03:46 PM
I saw 30 60gb PS3s sitting in Best Buy today.I would have bought one but it doesn't look like you can even scalp them on eBay anymore =(
12/21/2006 5:18:18 PM
so glad I unloaded my 2 extras when the going was good.
12/21/2006 5:20:34 PM
When I connect with an HDMI cable, I can play blu ray and ps3 discs no problem..however my standard DVDs are incredibly zoomed in and look terrible. Has there been any discussion on this? Is there a setting I am messing up or something?
12/22/2006 9:50:44 AM
god yall are pathetic. get over it.
12/22/2006 9:52:47 AM
^^Probably an issue with your TV. My TV, for instance, has a "full" mode and a "true" mode. If on "full", it will stretch things out (or in some cases squeeze stuff). Set it to "true", and it shouldn't mess with the picture.
12/22/2006 9:59:38 AM
It almost seems I have the PS3 set to play in 4:3 instead of widescreen....but the dashboard and the blu-ray movies/games all play fine. So i dont know.
12/22/2006 10:08:28 AM
^yeah I don't know exactly where, but it sounds like you need to adjust the settings on either your tv or the dvd menu of the dvd you are trying to play, it's probably not the ps3 settings if they work fine for the other stuff
12/22/2006 10:11:40 AM
you have a widescreen TV, correct?if you do, it's probably a problem with your stretch settings.
12/22/2006 10:12:27 AM
I do. I have a 42 inch plasma. I think you're right, I think I can change the aspect ratio on the TV itself....I forgot about that cause my last dvd player did it automatically :-D
12/22/2006 10:14:43 AM
The latest Firmware update fixed some game scaling issues.Unfortunately, they also polarized blu-ray and game view settings so you're going to have to manually readjust every time you do either. Or something to that effect.
12/22/2006 10:20:08 AM
has anyone else had this issue though?
12/22/2006 10:25:38 AM
I had something similar after replacing my DVD player w/my PS3. Except on mine, it was shrinking down widescreen titles (squishing the picture and adding bars to the left + right). Changing the setting on the TV to "true" (basically, pass-through) fixed it. I do not have to mess with the setting on my TV at all anymore.
12/22/2006 11:15:39 AM
what type of tv do you have?
12/22/2006 11:16:39 AM
Toshiba HM84 DLPWhat SandSanta is referring to is strictly a resolution issue. Sony really hosed this one up with the latest firmware. Basically, everything defaults to 1080i (even on 720p native displays). Not really a problem, since your TV will downconvert to 720p for you, but less than ideal.I would rather have my PS3 do the scaling, but f you disable the 1080i checkbox in the display settings (forcing 720p), everything works fine EXCEPT blu-rays. Those will be displayed at a paltry 480p. Hopefully they take care of this sometime soon.
12/22/2006 11:21:15 AM
i guess ill try the screen size adjustments...but other than that, i hope sony fixes this soon. thanks for the help.
12/22/2006 11:22:50 AM
i fixed it. you were right about the screen ratio. mine was set to "zoom" and it needed to be set to "full"
