Everything went really great, you guys did an awesome job organizing and running this thing. Went very smoothly from my perspective. Congrats to everyone who came out, it was a hell of a good time! I like how according to that news and observer article I ran four minute miles on the way there.
1/28/2007 12:08:41 AM
you ran two 4 min miles. Really 8 min to get to KK would be killer
1/28/2007 12:25:08 AM
^^good job man. I knew you could win. Thats now your claim to fame.

David, you're right -- we definitely had a better idea of the numbers to expect than last year. The difference was that last year the most people we ever had to handle at the Krispy Kreme store was maybe 40 or 50 people. This year, we were preparing to handle 800 people in 20 minutes. Almost everything at the store went smoothly (except for the water coolers....we underestimated how fast they would run out) because we spent so much time in preparation. I don't worry about hosting costs. I knew back in November that things were going to get too big to run it off a NCSU webspace account with static html pages. I had some extra room so I just got the site going on my account. We thought too late to transfer the domain name to my account, so that's why you'd see http://www.saketvora.com/kkc/ etc etc in the url bar. We're going to fix that for next year.I'll post links over the next couple days about places where people can post photos on Flickr and such. We'd love to see your photos and videos from the event. If you get any videos onto YouTube, please share the link!

There is a video up on WRAL's main page. The news outlets can't get the facts straight. He said the challenge was to complete the race in under two hours. Another article said the race was 4 miles each way, and had to be completed in an hour. Can't they take a break from murders and traffic accidents long enough to do a halfway decent job of covering a human interest story?

The sad conclusion every reporter reaches as they discover they really are not covering an interesting or important part of America.

heheeh I woke up sunday morning to the sound of cheering outside my window and then I was like oh yeah . . doughnuts . . ZZzzZzZzzzzZzzz
1/29/2007 1:33:27 PM
congrats to everyone involved in this - getting some good publicity.i'm trying to get a group from my plant to compete next year. everyone here at work loves the idea...
1/29/2007 3:56:12 PM
We should flyer downtown Raleigh next year.WE'RE GOIN' GLOBAL WITH THIS SHIT!
1/29/2007 6:47:39 PM
I like how 75% of the people interviewed in the news articles admit that they cheated."Yeah, I could only eat 7, and I threw up, but then I felt so much better! Still finished in under and hour! LOL!!1"
1/30/2007 11:37:09 PM
It's their body, Coz. Quit bein' such a stickler.
1/30/2007 11:37:51 PM
The point is, they DIDNT finish. They cheated. Glad they are totally satisfied with themselves knowing that they cheated and "beat" many people that ACTUALLY ate all 12 doughnuts.
1/30/2007 11:40:09 PM
In a competition that ultimately means nothing in the face of human history. So they lack integrity, big deal. It was a race for charity, remember?
1/30/2007 11:41:14 PM
^^Did they puke and eat the rest? If they didn't finish all 12, they shouldn't have been marked off and counted as a completed challenger.[Edited on January 30, 2007 at 11:42 PM. Reason : .]
1/30/2007 11:42:32 PM
Key word is "race" here, hoss.
1/30/2007 11:43:10 PM
any suggestions on how to monitor all the people who are challengers to make sure they actually eat them all?
1/31/2007 12:11:46 AM
1/31/2007 12:20:50 AM
The primary goal, from the organizers' perspective, is for people to have a good time. That being said, we clearly recognize that there are very competitive people who take the challenge and finishing times very seriously. We are still exploring ways to improve the way this event is run. Please remember, last year we had 150 people show up and ran the people in heats of 20-30 people. This proved difficult because some people had to wait nearly 1.5 hours before starting. So we decided to run everyone at the same time, which adds a lot of fun and craziness to it. We also felt we could ensure more people got hot donuts. Then you and the Raleigh community embraced this event like we never expected. We're already planning for next year's event, and it will be bigger and better than ever.Bottom though, we want this to be lighthearted and fun. Do we want donut cops wielding black markers closely following every single competitive challenger around at the store and along the race course to make sure they don't ever throw up? For 200+ 'serious' challengers? No. We want this to be fun. Send your comments and feedback to krispykremechallenge@gmail.com. Myself and the two other head organizers are graduating this May, so a great group of freshman are taking the helm.
1/31/2007 12:42:54 AM
I don't have any complaints for the organizers. You guys did a great job. I just don't understand the attitudes of some would-be competitors. If you know you didn't legitimately complete the race, do you derive more fun from pretending you did? I sure don't.Haha. I like the idea of doughnut cops. We could employ real cops. They could pistol whip cheaters.
1/31/2007 12:49:50 AM
Coz, you have a lot to learn about human nature, bro.
1/31/2007 12:54:41 AM
I know all about it, but that doesn't mean I understand it.
1/31/2007 12:55:40 AM
I once ran a 20:52 5k. Peak of my physical condition. Didn't win any reward. It was a fun time though. And that's all I care about.
1/31/2007 12:58:35 AM
I don't follow.
1/31/2007 1:00:38 AM
I had a good time at the event, and that was all that matters. And that should be the goal of any racing event. Crying about cheaters is pointless... does anyone really care?
1/31/2007 1:02:55 AM
Clearly, I do. Here's a little secret about that, "If you had fun, you won," crap that your kindergarten soccer coach taught you: It's a lie. The winner(s) won. You lost. You guys can go whack it to Rosie Ruiz. I'm done here.
1/31/2007 1:26:25 AM
Ate my dozen, kept them down, under one hour. Had a beer at Sadlacks as soon as they opened.Yes, I rule
1/31/2007 8:57:59 AM
didnt see it posted yet...... from sioncampus http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/sioncampus/01/31/campus.chronicles/index.htmlN.C. State students are learning it's possible to eat a box of donuts and stay in shape at the same time. This week the school held the third annual Krispy Kreme Challenge, an event where competitors have one hour to run two miles, eat a box of donuts, and then run the two miles back. The event is a fundraiser for the North Carolina Children's Hospital and in just three years the number of competitors has gone from a dozen to over 1,300. I'm a big fan of this event, not only because it's for a good cause, but because it also gives college kids a chance to vomit from something other that alcohol.
2/2/2007 9:35:43 AM
i was working EMS here... too bad no one got hurt/threw up. we were bored.
2/18/2007 4:49:59 AM
I've questioned how dangerous this event actually is. I'm sure it's worse than an ordinary 4 mile race, but how many people would have to be running before you saw heart attacks and stuff? Or does it really make a big difference what you eat directly before you exercise?
2/19/2007 8:00:46 PM
when i was sitting at the finish line i saw lots of people throwing up, it was rough. one guy went all over the bell tower
