2/2/2007 9:39:36 AM
anybody know why Stone doesn't distribute in NC? I've thought about checking into costs to get a distributor's permit from NC ABC - from what i saw on their website, it was only $300....
2/2/2007 10:13:20 AM
Interesting...you could make a profit there. Set up a distribution route, use a heated/AC garage for storage...a small covered trailer would work to haul the goods. This could work.
2/2/2007 12:21:50 PM
They can't distribute in NC because they do not have they supply capability to meet the demand here. Although I have heard that they may stop distributing in Indiana or something so they can begin distributing here. I'm sure Sam's Quik Stop and Whole Foods will get Stone brews in as soon as they are able to.BTW Sam's Quik Stop got a shipment of Dogfish Head Burton Baton today. They also have the Sam Adams Longshot micro-brew mix pack, which I highly recommend.

OK, according to stone's website, they have three online stores that will ship to areas outside their current distribution. I went through the motions of placing an order to be sent to NC, and it seemed like it would let me, as long as a 21 year old could sign for the package when it arrived.FYI....
2/28/2007 11:34:18 AM

I didn't really like the DR Barleywine, it tasted a little too mustardy. I did have a Corsendnk Christmas Ale that is pretty nice. Anyone up for a tasting? I have a couple of goodies in the closet.
3/5/2007 6:25:23 PM

Currently sipping on a Bell's Amber Ale. Terrapin Rye-Squared is up next. Had the Rogue 10,000 Batch Ale and DFH Red & White in the past few days. Both were excellent.

"Sleeping Pils is now on tap. My first ever homebrew lager. A very hopppy concoction. 6 ox saaz in the boil 3 of those in the last 15 minutes and 2 oz saaz in the keg. it hasnt lagered itself clear but its still a very very good beer. my lowest abv beer ever coming in at alot like 4.3%. it is everything i wanted it to be and more!"Damn dude! 3oz of Saaz for 60 and 3oz at 15 gives you what...around 58-60 IBUs? Quite hoppy indeed! My oaked aged imperial stout was first place at the carboy shamrock open for its category: http://hbd.org/carboy/shamresult2007.htmI currently have a few IPAs in the works. I used 18oz of hops in a five gallon batch for one of them, and continuously hopped the other one for 90 minutes. They both are bottled, just need a few weeks to age properly.Brewing a Vanilla robust porter very soon. Maybe this weekend. I may oak half the batch.

Since I have severely cut down on my beer consumption (due to my waistline and wallet), can someone recommend one absolutely stellar beer which is newly available? I'm looking for something that is either an new seasonal not offered before or a brand which has recently started distribution here in Raleigh.
6/18/2007 6:50:17 PM
made a magic hat clone recently, had apricot extract, and it was phenomenal best batch yet
6/18/2007 7:21:58 PM
^^Tried any Bell's yet? Take your pick of the Stout, Amber, Porter, Pale, Oberon (wheat), or Two Hearted (IPA). At both WF and Peace for about ten bucks a six. CBC recently released their summer wheat, but you can only get that at the brewery.http://www.bellsbeer.com and http://www.carolinabrew.com[Edited on June 18, 2007 at 10:58 PM. Reason : ;]

Bell's is solid... its from Grand Rapids. The Oberon is their best IMO.
6/19/2007 11:02:10 AM
had an IPA from Rogue last night at the flying saucer in charlotte, but i can't find it on their website. I know it wasn't Imperial IPA, but maybe the JLS Integrity Pale Ale? very tasty. they also had Menage Frog on tap, a new Tripel from Issaquah Brewhouse, but it wasn't included in the $2.50 pint night, so I declined.

Wolfpacker06 I posted in the chit chat thread earlier but not a lot of people read that.cheezcurd informed that Oskar Blues has been at HT and the Peace St. Market for a while. Probably have the Dale's Pale Ale and the Gordon's. They're in cans. My company finances their brewery.I'm in Denver and have been to most of the breweries around here. Hands down the best beer I've had here is Great Divide's Oak Aged Yeti Imperial Stout.Does anyone know anything about production for the Triangle Brewing Company? We financed a deal with them about two months ago, $100,000 and they haven't produced a drop.Has anyone made plans for this? I'll be there for every sessionhttp://www.beertown.org/events/gabf/index.htm
6/19/2007 4:52:29 PM
the only oskar blues beers i have found locally are dale's pale ale and old chub. to my knowledge it has not been in nc. oskar blues makes great beers. cherry ten fiddy FTW!-avery 14 - incredible beer that doesnt fit a style. its like mixing a belgian dubble and an imperial ipa. by far the best avery beer i have tasted.-jolly pumpkin beers - unique artsian belgian style beers. they are all aged in oak and infected with various wild yeasts and souring bacteria. very very tasty.

Yeah all of the Stone brews are distributed here inc. Reunition. All of the beer above 3.2% and all liquor AND wine is sold in liquor stores, which sucks sometime b/c they are closed Sunday. So you have to remember to stock up Fri. and Sat. unless you wanna drink 3.2% on Sunday. There is a HUGE taste difference between the GD Imperial Stout and the Oak Aged IS.You're only going to be 20 miles from the Oskar Blues Brewery/restaurant. You'll also be about 15 miles from Coors in Golden. BTW, it's 90 degrees here today, no humidity though.[Edited on June 20, 2007 at 5:38 PM. Reason : .]

I'm still saving my 2005 Fuller's Vintage. I'm not sure when the right time to pop that cap will be...suggestions? I didn't keep it this long just to ruin it by drinking a year too early...so I can wait if need be.
